This song is like, the epitome of grunge music... kickass get-up and scream guitar, pissed-off vocals, angry disobedient lyrics... holy shit this song is amazing... I could listen to it all day, I think I will!!
what i love the most about eddie is how he transforms when he is on stage. off stage ( from what ive seen in videos) he seems so shy and just introverted and then on stage BAM. i love that about him.
+Igor Wright I agree about Abbruzzesse. It is a sad shame that he and the rest of the band could not see "eye to eye" on a lot of issues. I love Matt.....I love Pearl Jam.........they are the best band EVER in MHO. You have to look, though. The band, as we know it, has been together over 20 years (this includes Matt). It is a shame that Abbruzzesse's "ideals" do not coincide with the band. I still, to this day, feel that he is one HELL of a drummer.
+Kelly Kennedy Totally agree with. I wish Dave was less a rock star and more an average guy like the rest of the band, so Eddie wouldn't tell Stone to fire him and PJ would sound good as it sounds today...but better. I like Matt but he is too predictable.
He had a way more funk style to his drumming but Matt Cameron is a machine prolly the most underrated technically flawless drummer ever Dave was a madman different styles but Matt cameron is too often dissed when he shouldn't be he is pearl jams drummer been with the band the longest and should of been since the start since he helped form them early on
+Dustin Mirra Yeah, Cameron it was like a natural choice to replace Irons given his history with PJ. I totally agree with him being a great drummer, full of technique. But the way Dave sound on Vs and Vitalogy it's just like he is just as important as Eddie's vocals or Mike's solos...he is an amazing presence on each song he played in these two records.
+Igor Wright yes I hear you WMA never sounded as good since Dave was on the kit he was a beast no doubt his importance is immense but for reasons we will never know the band doesn't accept him as part of them in any way so we have to live with Matt who is an amazing drummer as well just different style and person
gotta be one of the best groups of all time, definitely one of the best american groups. Man it would've been great to have seen em back then. Saw them last summer and it was easily one of the greatest shows I've been to.
When I was was living in Germany back in the early 90's I bought a PJ Live CD that was recorded in Switzerland. On the back cover this song was titled... Drop the Leaves! Shit, I wish i still had it to scan and give you all something to laugh about! It was an insider with all my friends at the time. "Hey! Drop the Leaves man"! Lol. Good times.
I loved Pearl Jam when they came out. I was 12 when ‘Ten’ came out and I loved them. Bands like this are sorely missing from modern music. I actually feel sorry for modern kids who don’t know anything like this.
Yes, I was 10 or 11 and missed the start of going out when the Seattle sound was big, just started going out towards the tail end of it. Wished I was 5 years older so I could have been around throughout the whole scene.
Yes, Jeff is playing a 12 string bass.... the coolest instrument ever made! If you check the booklet for Ten it says what instrument everybody plays and for Jeff it says, a 12 string fretless bass. I had to do a double take when I read it.
Holy shit, I listen to this song every day. I would give my first born child do be at this exact concert when they played this, but the crowd is just sitting there! HEAD BANG, MOSH PIT, SOMETHING! DROP THE LEASH!
I miss this pearl jam! My theory is that all that attitude it's given by the hair, but pearl jam still awesome, they are such a good band i saw them on the ACL last year (2009) and i was almost crying, AMAZING!

This song came out on Vs. in 1993, so this is great to see an early version of it. The song is about everyone trying to stare Pearl Jam in a certain direction, and the fans wanting more out of them than just music.
PEARL JAM LYRICS "Leash" troubled souls unite, we got ourselves tonight.. i am fuel, you are friends, we got the means to make amends i am lost, i'm no guide, but i'm by your side i am right by your side... young lover i stand it was their idea, i proved to be a man take my fucking hand it was their idea, i proved to be a man will myself to find a home, a home within myself we will find a way, we will find our place drop the leash, drop the leash... get outta' my fuckin' face drop the leash, drop the leash... get outta' my fuckin' face drop the leash, drop the leash... get outta' my fuckin' face drop the leash, we are young drop the leash, we are young get outta' my fuckin' face... drop the leash, drop the leash... get outta' my, my... delight, delight, delight in our youth... get outta' my fuckin' face...
Buy them! You won't be disappointed. I saw them twice so far, once in Philly this past year on Halloween Night. They still rock out to the old and new songs. Best live band in the last 25 years.
Damn , I was 12 and Pearl Jam was the first amazing music I’d ever heard besides hahaha Mr. Big and Motley Crew etc. since hearing Even Flow for the first time, the music and Ed’s voice took hold of my soul. I honestly can’t think of a better band. The 1990’s were FUCKIN KICK ASS! The most unbelievable part is how they continue to blow my fuckin mind some 32 years later! Good god I’m this old!
That is exactly how I feel! I should have been born many many years earlier. I love Pearl Jam and I love Pinkpop and I was only 5 years old in 1992 :( I missed the 70's, 80's and I was still a kid in the 90's :(. We've missed so many great things!
Do not hesitate, I live in Milwaukee, and I'm going solo to see P/J in St. Louis, saw them twice in'09 at the UC in Chicago, they were amazing, I might be a bit biased, I've seen them over thirteen times
I agree . . they just don't have the same energy as back in these "good old days" - but they are still amazing. Love the open beer cans on top of the amps :-)
Dave IS the best drummer PJ ever had, but not because he's better than matt, it's because he matches their attitude and style more. Matt is a completely different kind of drummer. There are certain rhythms Dave plays that Matt cannot, but I also doubt Dave could play any Soundgarden beats as well as Matt. They're both brilliant drummers, and any band member is lucky to play with them. They're just different. Like the cultures and people of the world.
Really man , This song is the anthem of that "X" generation, the 90's, the evolution, the ideas. I fucking love it, even though i'm not part as it (cause i'm younger). Against the opression, "drop the leash, get out of my fucking face". By the matter of fact i wrote this phrase in a wall in my school ahaha
This song is a beautiful example of songs that sound better live than on record, it was already good in the record version, and it's 2x more incredible in live
This song is like, the epitome of grunge music... kickass get-up and scream guitar, pissed-off vocals, angry disobedient lyrics... holy shit this song is amazing... I could listen to it all day, I think I will!!
This was the best time to be a 20 year old.
yeah wow i was 19 what a time for music we were spoilt rotten
I was 7 and I was JEALOUS...now I'm 36 and I'm still jealous
no doubt!!
i was 13. another great time as it was the first coming -of age
was 20 too
yes it was!
What a beautiful song. “I am lost, I’m no guide, but I’m by your side”. Everything about it is gorgeous. Music, lyrics, energy. I love them.
what i love the most about eddie is how he transforms when he is on stage. off stage ( from what ive seen in videos) he seems so shy and just introverted and then on stage BAM.
i love that about him.
this is my dogs favorite song
I'm adopting a dog named Rockstar this is his favourite song too 🤘
I was 17-18 Bloody love Pearl Jam!! BEST BAND ever!!! 🤙🏻🤪🍻
World class song. Rarely played live these days. So good to see them ripping it out!
" The live showmanship of PJ'
Dave you are missed, never the Same....
Dave on drums Drives whole period of Pearrl jam...I miss that dude
🖤❤️👍👍😔 Absolutley True, Dave Abbruzzese ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
One of the best songs they play live.
Vs has some great live songs.
one of my favorite pj songs! i love the chorus, "Will myself to find a home, a home within my self"
This concert at Pinkpop is legendary! 🔥🔥
I've seen this amazing group since '95, eleven times, and I have my ticket for May 4, 2010 in St. Louis, can't wait, they are 100% everytime
That moment you recognize Dave Abbruzzesse was the best drummer of this band history! Too much feeling and technique!
Never heard something so hard and uplifting at the same time. Might be my favorite Pearl song.
Started college in 92, 18 years with a bright future jamming out on grunge waiting for my first class to start.
this is the best live version of this song
One of PJ's greatest tunes - rocks!!! These guys are truely amazing!!
gotta be one of the best groups of all time, definitely one of the best american groups.
Man it would've been great to have seen em back then. Saw them last summer and it was easily one of the greatest shows I've been to.
Stone Gossard and his damn leg on stage. Love that man
really great leg!
god i love pearl jam. so awesome live. there aren't bands like these anymore.
When I was was living in Germany back in the early 90's I bought a PJ Live CD that was recorded in Switzerland. On the back cover this song was titled... Drop the Leaves! Leash is from the second album vs
Cathartic. Seeing Leash live is an extremely rare treat. Pearl Jam with Dave A. was Pearl Jam at the muscular apex. Great video, thanks!
Love this performance, lost count of how many times Ive watched it . Amazing
I must say Mike McCready's technique has improved so much over the years.
Ah the old days ..
I wish I was born 16 years earlier, so I could go to Pinkpop in '92.. But they still rock!
Yes, Jeff is playing a 12 string bass.... the coolest instrument ever made! If you check the booklet for Ten it says what instrument everybody plays and for Jeff it says, a 12 string fretless bass. I had to do a double take when I read it.
Ooooh, Jeff...
Holy shit, I listen to this song every day. I would give my first born child do be at this exact concert when they played this, but the crowd is just sitting there! HEAD BANG, MOSH PIT, SOMETHING! DROP THE LEASH!
You wont give your first born child if it was real
I miss this pearl jam! My theory is that all that attitude it's given by the hair, but pearl jam still awesome, they are such a good band i saw them on the ACL last year (2009) and i was almost crying, AMAZING!

PEARL JAM = GREATEST BAND.
Long live the 90's!!
Biggest influence in my life!
12 years old when Vs. came out!
Best youth rebellion song since The Who's my Generation.
I was 30 old at the time, but I was not homesick. I thought: this is the new rock. And I loved it.
That is exactly how I feel! I should have been born many many years earlier. I love Pearl Jam and I love Pinkpop and I was only 5 years old in 1992 :( I missed the 70's, 80's and I was still a kid in the 90's :(. We've missed so many great things!

PJam has been my favorite band ever since
Do not hesitate, I live in Milwaukee, and I'm going solo to see P/J in St. Louis, saw them twice in'09 at the UC in Chicago, they were amazing, I might be a bit biased, I've seen them over thirteen times

ste voix c'est un truc de malade
I agree . . they just don't have the same energy as back in these "good old days" - but they are still amazing.
Love the open beer cans on top of the amps :-)

Dave IS the best drummer PJ ever had, but not because he's better than matt, it's because he matches their attitude and style more. Matt is a completely different kind of drummer. PEARL JAM, THE LAST ROCKSTARS
