"These gun will physically harm you if its not held correctly" I love that quote.
I had a few girlfriends that I could say the same thing about!

You can get these .458 Win Mag rifles practically brand new with a box of 19 rounds usually.........
Too funny! Yup, I might shoot one for fun if a buddy had one, but I'd never buy one. Simply not enough elephants and cape water buffalo in the Western US to warrant it...
HYDRA DYNAMIC i think he was talking specifically about that older style? That’s great to know though how much did that run? Thanks for the info
@Bloodreign137 - I would ask @Don Olypopper 2nd message from the top
HYDRA DYNAMIC oh no problem thanks for the reply
Don Olypopper do you remember approx when you bought your 458 win and how much it was?
"I shot my first turkey today... everybody in the freezer aisle sure were shocked!" :)
LOL.

That's funny I don't care who you are....
Shot my first and only turkey with a 30-06. Don't tell the game warden.

"These guns will physically hurt you if you don't hold them right" LOL! I like the way you talk... Straight & to the point.
When I first started shooting a shotgun. A 20ga. Beat the crap out of me.

@Chad Klaren You are really pushing it on elephants, not even legal at least in some areas.
@@phillhuddleston9445 I don't know of any place in Africa where elephant hunting with 45-70 is legal. Let alone a Professional Hunter that would agree on guiding someone on such an endeavor.
45-70 is a fun versatile cartridge. But in North America. Not Africa.
Did you accompany Trumps sons when they killed the Triceratops?
Yes I remember being ate by one in 78.But I am ok now.The color of that dinosaur was spectacular.

This is a great rifle for hunting deer hiding behind trees,
Art Tafil i use this on deer. I hand load. Its perfect. I just dont make them nuclear hot
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf :) :), dangerous game, LOL, like rabid rabbits?
Art Tafil depends on the thickness off the tree......
Xeno Morph, when using a .458 magnum, it would be well advised to make sure that you should choose a mature Sequoia! LOL!
Don’t shoot through a tree only shoot if you got a clear shot. inexperienced/desperate hunters take any shot they get and ignore ethical clean kills
Wow… I was amazed at how the energy of the recoil ripples through your shoulders in slow-mo. Great advice and instruction on how to hold this rifle to avoid that energy going somewhere it's not supposed to. Thank you for your service.
The amount of water displaced on that first bucket shot was scary. That's power.
I'm a simple man. I always upvote dinosaur killing caliber videos.

Your advice on thumb placement when shooting a 458 win mag is spot on.

Dead Eye If you missed the squirrel you might kill the tree... So be careful and happy hunting.
If there's any sqill left then maybe
I seriously once shot a squirrel with my .408 Cheyenne Tactical (at 200 yards) and there wasn't much left to feed my dog.
Glad to know I'm not the only one with a giant saber-toothed squirrel problem...
You’re right, I’ve never heard a squirrel pop before
I love how good the bolt sounds when it gets racked. It's so satisfying.
That’s why I love bolts.
Its a Mauser nice rifle
Had one. Sold it. Lost a filling in my tooth due to recoil
Kills on one end and maims on the other end.
I had shot one of these and a .416 Rem mag......the 416 felt worse because it was faster and more straight back. Still heavy enough though!
@@DigitalHaze65536 Well the .416 Rem does have more power, and that obviously results in producing more recoil.
Alex K. It also felt worse to me than a .458 Lott more straight back and sharper.
You girls should stick to 22
Soaked up that recoil like a pro. Very nice.
.458 win.mag...not recommended for salad eaters.
kanukster. I don't eat salads but I wouldn't wanna try shooting it with my messed up shoulders. Shooting 1000s of rounds from shotguns and rifles does take it's toll on ya.
Yea he handle it very well.
Joe Morrell yep,they do kick
He definitely knows how to handle that monster! Amazing!
^..^~~
The 458 magnum is further proof that there is no such thing as too much of a good thing.
It's no pipsqueak, but you ought to check out there are much meaner monsters for those willing to get clobbered, namely the likes of .460 Weatherby Magnum, .577 Tyrannosaur, and .700 Nitro Express.
Count me out on that, though!
The .460 Weatherby does not hit you as hard due to the muzzle brake - and it has 3000 lbs. more muzzle energy - and yes - from experience. The .458 Winchester in a Browning Lightweight Safari that I have will leave bruises no mater how you hold it -
Michael Lisi You must be a glutton for punishment!
I haven't yet had the opportunity to shoot anything bigger than a .300 H&H magnum, and my own single high-powered rifle is a Ruger M77 .30-06, but I'd like to see how some of the heavier artillery is to fire.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I have fired a .50 BMG, but that was the M2, so I didn't really have to deal with the recoil because those are tripod-mounted.
It sure was a hell of a lot of fun, though!
One of those things that I sorely miss about being a Navy Gunner's Mate.
I like 375H&H, more fun to shoot imho.
50BMG? as a Desert Eagle caliber?
Just waiting for the psychos at magnum research to make a bfr that takes this round...
Scott Winfrey They probably already have blue prints for one
There is one on RUclips
Kills and cleans the turkey at the same time. Now that’s efficiency. 😂
If used properly, will remove the finger prints!
I killed two pumpkins yesterday and IV8888 inspired me to do it.
1994CPK jihad against the pumpkin infadels
Great video. I owned a 458 Win mag , 375 H&H, and a 416 Rigby. Boss hog...big bores....and once shot a 460 Weatherby. But my favorite remains the Winchester model 94, 30-30!!! Thanks for your work.
How bad is the recoil on the rifles? A 3030 is like a heavy 20ga.
Mike Richards
375 H&H! Thank you! Ugh I've been trying to think of that round for years. I worked at a shooting range and a guy came in and wanted me to be a spotter for him. Let me have a couple rounds. Biggest round I had shot at the time. Was going on safari in a couple weeks.
Good goin you have an excellent sence of what to do with big bore weapons
You handled that recoil well. Awesome video! :D
Thank you Eric for serving America, and for making this video. Both are great !
Oh brother Eric I will feel free to live moments like this vicariously thru you. The name on that rifle is PAIN.
You are a FULLY GROWN MAN! OUTSTANDING job shooting this rifle!
Hello from Australia. I built a .458 WM in the late 1970's. I used a 24" barrelled Mauser Magnum action in the white and a good-quality semi-inletted stock with handsome grain. The inletting took quite a long time without using long gunsmith's inletting studs; fit, smoke, file, refit, repeat. I set the barrel ring of the receiver and the first 4" of the barrel in bedding epoxy with one recoil cross-pin. I deliberately kept the stock as full as appropriate in order to keep the weight at 10 pounds. I fitted a Williams Foolproof receiver sight and a Williams shorty front sight with a medium white bead.
It turned out a very lovely economically-priced rifle and not at all difficult to carry and shoot. The .458 WM is a peach.
I like to thank you IraqVeteran8888 for taking the time to blow some shit up.
Dilly! Dilly!
Perfect for Graboids.

You sir are having way to much fun.well done keep the vidz coming.
That first of three orange buckets was INSANE in slow mo lol. Awesome as always.
The true anti home invasion rifle. One second theirs a bad person next theirs a new coat of wall paint everywhere.
After passing through the bad guy, and several interior and exterior walls, the bullet drops a person living three blocks away.
R32R38 ...And the person behind that person.
... and disabling the Freightliner behind that....
Yes, when two bad guys enter together they both drop together as well.
Wouldn't mind a PPSH-41 for home defense
that's some serious sit down power
Room temperature challenge!
If you sit down behind that kind of power you will regret that you did. Learn to shoot standing, like Erik.
Enjoyed watching. In 1972 i fired this caliber but was a Winchester Model 70 then a Weatherby 460 Magnum. Black & Blue for days being 12 yrs old. What fun. Well Done Presentation🔫👍
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!

MegaBait56 lol calm down dude
That's why the double barrel rifles were more popular than the bolt actions, you don't want a bad function in a rifle when a tiger is runing towards you
That is why you carry a 6 shot Tiger scraper along with the super bolt action rifle.
Alvaro Labastida amen brother !!
You need a bayonet lol
Alvaro Labastida, you also need to be an expert shot. Really big game, elephant, rhino, Cape buffalo grizzly, do keep coming especially after a number of misplaced shots. Big game guides know this and are prepared to make an expert shot to save themselves and their client.
Just get the double barrel bolt action (look it up I'm not joking)
First shooting video I’ve seen where the shooter actually holds the rifle correctly. Right elbow 90* to the torso.
👍👍👍
Definitely FUN shooting that rifle at Range Day! Gotta love those Lehigh Defense 300gr XP'S!!
Got a good buddy with a farm. He's a market gardener. I been pumpkin hunting for years.
“These rifles will physically harm you if...” ha! Man. Love it!
I am impressed at how many times you shot that .458 and never flinched.I shot my .375H&H 20 times at the range but there is considerable difference in the two. Once again I am impressed the way you handled the recoil. Good video.
I mean plenty people can handle the kick. A lot people good enough grip strength to handle it. A lot people don't have lot of grip strength either though as well.
"Youre about to box"
Kudos to handling twelve rounds of that cartridge. Semper Fi!
In my PH days i used the exact same model Ruger M77 in 458 WM .Was a great stopper and never let me down .

Nicely done!
Love your channel and all the content i watch all your stuff your amazing thanks for the perfection and all the hard work you do god bless you another brother in arms
I had a budget 458 Win Mag built on a MARK X action. Whoever had it built must have intended to carry it alot as it sported a relatively thin 20-inch barrel with a aperture rear sight. A nice thing about rifles in 458 Win Mag is the prices for used ones are pretty decent - probably because of the limited use in the lower 48 and high ammo cost.
5000 ft lbs of energy.🤘🏻

These are legal to hunt deer in Ohio with but 30-06 is not lol.
I'm glad he pointed that out.. sheesh I thought it was a cucumber
I used to have a Weatherby mark V in win 458 magnum. I added a shotgun pad to the stock. It helped a lot!
I went to buy one about 30 years ago, and ran across a Dakota Arms 458 Lott first, so I bought it. Fantastic rifles. Hits like a freight train.
I’d really like to see what these safari cartridges do in gel blocks. We’ve all seen what standard hunting rounds do in gel and I’d like to see the difference. Don’t get me wrong... I like to watch watermelon juice being made just as much as the next guy but I’ve never seen real wound tracks from these cartridges. Some clay test would be just as cool. Maybe 300 win mag vs safari cartridges. Now that’s a video.
Hunter_Jordan is right - the 458 is all about penetration, and not explosiveness. High velocity rounds like a 300 WM will do more damage to gel blocks, but generally won't penetrate as far.
Never know when you might get charged by an armored car.
Right???
Right!!!!
Nah, reload, use a .458 to .224 sabot and put an m855a1 in there.
I Love your guys videos thanks
Great control of the rifle 👍
In all honesty, and having never fired a .458, I am surprised by how little you were actually shoved back with the recoil. (We've all seen those clowns shooting the A-Square T-Rex, I'm sure.) And the muzzle flip was surprisingly minimal as well. No doubt that's because you know what you're doing. Thanks for sharing your techniques and knowledge. Well done, indeed.
The recoil, if properly shouldered, is managable. the movement is minimal but HARD.
Keep the big bore videos coming!
....... ladies and gentlemen ..... this was a very well presented video , I must say ..
This is a great home defense weapon for when you don't feel like leaving a body and filing out paper work
I’m thinking “They’re perfectly good HD buckets!” I’ve got some paint covered ones that need disappeared..
i miss the old man
I havent seen him in 2 years or something, did he passed away or something? :c
@@A-G-F- He died like 3 or 4 years ago.
The old mans name is Barry and yes he sadly passed away about 4-5 years ago
The technique for holding that rifle was what I was taught at a young age by my old Army father. Only weapon I fired like that I wasn’t comfortable with was an old side by side break open 10 gauge. Asshole that leant it to us gave me T-shot shells for a 15 year old. I held 3 shells and felt like I dislocated my right arm for 3 days. Gave me more confidence with a 30-06 and other calibers.
Damn Eric handled that 458 like a real man!
*Put water in the pumpkin, preferably colored, for a more reactive target.*
*Place sealed & filled 5-GA buckets upside down*
*Try bowling balls & fire extinguishers.*
*#1 Bucket & #2 Turkey were cool.*
“Cause your about to box” laughs nervously
"Because you're..." Dumbass.
No, you're not about to box, you're just about to get hit....in the shoulde...HARD!!!
Shooting that many .458 mag rounds in one day you are a certified Masochist! I had a Weatherby M k V in .458 mag and even with a shotgun recoil pad on it after 5 rounds IT HURT!
Short and sweet, no bs. Great vid, Subscribed :)
like a boxer, cuz your about to box... Nice!
Very nice. Always fun to watch. Next time stuff a turkey with tannerite!
I have that same rifle in .458 Win Mag as well. It also did not feed the big round nose 500 grain bullets especially well. I didn’t want anything to eat me while I was attempting to chamber a round. Bought a Remington model 700 in .458 Mag and used it on brown bear and Cape buffalo. I believe that had I been using the Ruger, I might well have developed some Cape buffalo related health issues one morning several years back.
Love the original m77s. Great Mauser action
Eric you need to do more gunsmith videos
And a reloading video for the 8mm Hakim with cast bullets and a 8x56R cast reloading vid (revisited)
Toolness1 The Hakim is just 8mm Mauser though, load it like you would any other 8mm rifle minus surplus loads.

Another nice hint for helping absorb the recoil on these big bores is (as a right handed shooter) making sure you keep that right elbow high - like you do, have the elbow pointing almost to the horizon, instead of at 45 degrees to the ground, or directly at the ground.
GReeNORB is that true? I would think the opposite is true. If you raise your elbow, you’re spreading your shoulder/upper pectoral muscles, giving yourself less natural padding. I can’t say I’ve ever thought about it much as the most powerful rifle cartridge I’ve shouldered is a .300 Win mag.
f5tornadeau hold your left hand where the butt of the rifle would go in your right shoulder. Raise your elbow and feel your pec and shoulder tense more. Compare the feeling when your elbow points at the ground. The tense muscle helps absorb/resist the heavy recoil more than a slack one does. It's the technique I use when shooting a .375 Ruger, which has rather a lot of recoil.
It is true, its the exact technique archers use for back/shoulder tension
Now THAT looks like a blast!
Love The Video! Belive you me I was hit by a .177 in the back and, That little thing will take a man off his feet sizzling hot and feels like a fired up poker. Later in life shot the .458 like being hit in the shoulder with a 3 pound blacksmith hammer . Gees what a force! Not for EVEN a medium build man!
