  • This customer called up and booked me in because the heating wasn't holding pressure. Their boiler engineer managed to isolate the boiler so the customer could have hot water.
The pipework was a mixture of 22mm, 15mm, 10mm, and 8mm micro bore copper pipework.
Once the leak was located (no thanks to the duck), I carried out a repair and pressure test to confirm no further leaks!

I enjoy the boiler leks more than the pool leaks. It's more relatable I guess.

There's been loads of jobs over the past year or 2 since making the videos, where I haven't been given the permission to record.

Wow, copper must have been sparse in the UK back then. In Austria all the pipes from back then are either steel 18-22mm or copper in the same measurement. The flow sounds must be pretty loud with that restricted flow, right?

The boiler shouldn't have been isolated because there would be no way to dissipate the heat after the hot water demand ended . You should at least leave a loop of pipe under the boiler across the flow and return . The ducks prediction was wrong this time , or can he see the future 😉

Not really modern boilers have an internal automatic bypass for this. Otherwise the boiler would not work in situations where you have zone valves and no zone is calling for heat (thus they are all closed and there is no circulation in the CH circuit). The excess heat is dissipated trough the main heat exchanger by letting the pump and the fan run after the flame is turned off.

@@alerighi if you have 2 port valves you should have a differential bypass for this reason.

@@dennisphoenix1 No you really don't with modern boilers (well, at least from boiler of 20 years...), the bypass is integrated in the boiler itself.
If not there would even be a problem if all the radiators valves are closed (something that can happen if you install smart electronic valves and no room is calling for heat).
