I had my doubts that this wood would turn out as amazing as it is! You are definitely a wood magician. The bark is like a crown and the colors in the wood are so beautiful. There is so much to love about this bowl.
Carbides ! Next it will be resin Phil ! 😂🤣😂 I remember Jim Sprague saying in his videos he had no interest in resin , now look 🤣 But seriously a lovely hard fought for bowl . Lots of interest in that wood . Pleasure as always . 👍
Hi Phil from Phil. A great looking please of wood 🪵. Turned into a lovely looking bowl. I thought it looks like a elephants foot When you first started with it, A great job 👏 Phil. I look forward to seeing your next project, I have a large tree down in the garden, there could be some lovely wood for turning on it . I hope you are keeping safe and well, I look forward to your next project, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
When I first saw the piece, I thought he's going to make a vase. Then you said you were going to make a bowl, I thought, but what about the vase........I love that bowl. Absolutely a beautiful piece of work. You were right, it was supposed to be a bowl.
Just love the finished bowl. My mum, sister, brother and I love how you finish the bark. A lot of other woodturners don't sand the bark. We Love your Howdy
At the start of the show you turned the wood and I saw twice an elephant foot. So for me this beautiful bowl will be know to me as the Elephant Foot Bowl. This name is fitting as I watch a lot of dirt and dust come off this elephant foot 😀. This bowl is lovely Phil. Thanks for the show. Joel
I kept grinding my teeth every time you cut at the top I was certain the cap was going to come off thanks to your experience and patience you created a charm from what was destined to be firewood to others
What a lovely elephant foot bowl. It’s beautiful and reminds me of my mom. She collected elephants and since her passing I now collect them. Beautiful job!
...wow...was that a lot of work!!!...we'll have to start calling him Toughy Martinez if he keeps sending projects like this...😉 It came out gorgeous...very well done! Matt
Hey Phil, look straight into the bottom of the bowl with the gap at the bottom. You have a smiling face with the left eye giving a great big wink!! This is the best bowl so far in 2023. Finally a bowl with inclusions, gaps and real character. Keep up the good work and soldier on!
What a hidden treasure you found! Glad that you were more persistent than the tree. It looks like the deadwood branch was composting itself and showing you the different stages. You exposed the beauty just in time.
WOW, THANK YOU VERY MUCH PHIL ...👁 really like this one (get it?)... You are correct Phil, I have zero idea where or when I found it. Sorry for all that hard dirty work BUT after you have rested a bit all of your HOURS of effort will be admired for YEARS to come. Another awesome experience that is over far too quickly. I eagerly wait until your next performance. I LOVE OAK & I love what you did to her... TM
Thanks Tuffy for sending him a “heal-over” blank. I am too stingy with mine to send him one! Hope he turns the next one with bark off the rim. Wood too pretty to leave under the bark! 😂😂😂

Beautiful work Phil, who else would have thought of putting an elephants foot in a lathe and getting this lol. I do feel sorry for the three foot elephant? Thank you Phil, I enjoyed the show.
Phil, very nice bowl!!! At first I had my doubts, because the wood was so pitted. I didn't think you would get past it, but it turned out awesome!! Very nice 👌!!! Well done 👏!!!
This bowl is absolutely stunning, Phil! The bark rim, the complex colors, the grain, and all the inclusions make this one a stand-out turning for sure. A new favorite! Thanks!
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil what a brilliant bowl, I liked how you managed to cut it so as to mount it in the lathe with the bark forming the top of the bowl. Beautiful end result worth all your efforts and you certainly earned your dinner after. Thanks Phil. See you next time.
Phil this bowl though hard to turn came out beautiful. I always love the fact you keep alot of it's natural beauty. That for sure shows the true mind of an artist like yourself. Be well
Wow I wouldn't know where to start. As usual you made the best decision. Absolutely gorgeous 🥰. I met a man today who has a tree service,he promised to being me some pieces tomorrow . If they are good maybe I will share with you 🙂
Phil! We could see your breath at one point. Musta been cold out in the woodshop. Going down to minus 43 C Friday night. Potroast sounds perfect. 🐘Yup: I saw the elephant foot too.😉
Boy Phil you really know how to keep me on the edge of my seat. I admire your perseverance to the end. The lady in the bowl is almost spiritual. There really no one like you and your art. This is my new favorite live edge bowl. Thank you.
I love Oak. I turn mostly Oak and Pecan. Sometimes for a piece to turn out as nice as this one, you have to work your butt off. But it's worth it in the end. As always, another great video.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Tough turn, but probably one of your best ones yet! But you know, I would have loved to see that beautiful and exquisite heal over wood under that bark. Oh, well, the bark looks good too. The core wood of cut branches dies back, and hardens into heart wood, but then rots into very organic soil. So no, not root wood or ground dirt. That’s how trees end up with hollows in them for animals to nest in! Good choice to turn away the rotted dead wood until you got back into what was healthy wood. Guess this was your “Hard Hearted “ bowl! 🤣🤣🤣
I just realized that I didn’t comment. Sad! This was truly a beautiful piece! Sorry it was such work, but I think it’s gorgeous! The wife saw faces inside of it. Please keep it up!
Wow! That's exquisite. I think you are right when you say it's not a root. Depending on where it was and how it sat on the tree, dirt could have accumulated in residual water and slowly seeped into the wood over the years.
Love the end result. I had a plum tree in my front yard that I had to dig up because ants ate most of the hart out and took up residence in it. I hoped to turn the trunk but when I cut a blank from that it was all dirt nothing left to turn. I did a few small turning from some of the branches it’s a pretty wood. Enjoyed the video. Dan
