That is really gorgeous, Phil. I think Valerie must really like you, my friend. And I’m sure you must really like her! Now, a cow? You know, buddy, sometimes when you say the things that you see in these bowls, I have to wonder, the 60s must’ve been real good to Phil. 😎😎😎 Great video, Phil. I think a video about the costs of wordturning would be interesting. It would be even more useful if you could include some warnings about expensive things which beginners might think that they need, but which aren't really worth their cost, or where there is a cheaper/easier alternative.
Thank You Phil, Thank You Valerie... WOW Phil, Valerie pulled out all the stops sending this beauty for turning... So much fun to watch you create Phil. The unexpected adventures with your shows I find wonderful to watch (but u already knew that, ha,😁)... This turning was exceptional with the outside grain that looks to me like some old world map. Especially at 10:03 I see South America or Africa , at 10:20 I see Australia.(or perhaps Tuffy needs to just get out a bit more, ha)... The beautiful "punky" wood worm holes on the inside represented the unexplored caverns inside the earth (yea, definitely get out a bit more Tuffy!!!). GREAT & FUN & BEAUTIFUL turning today Phil, & until next time.... TM
You are most welcome Tuffy. As the Wood Wrangler for Strait Turners Club, I handle a LOT of wood, and can watch for anything that might be enticing for Phil. And strangely enough, it is usually a piece no one else chose to take home (Not true, I pick out Phil’s wood as part of my share for doing the work). 😂
@@valeriehenschel1590 a Wood Wrangler...well I always wondered how come you always provide such fascinating specimens, Valerie! Phil managed to wrangle a cow out of this one too! @@valeriehenschel1590 Thanks Valerie, that is great. I see so many landscapers pickup truck loaded with beautiful wood going to the dumps & think "what a waste". So much is wasted today. Glad you & "Strait Turners Club" see the use in what others do not. I looked up your club and saw examples from the "Members Gallery" (I thought the ice cream cone very clever). I see Africa and Australia, Tuffy! Thanks for pointing them out. Haha, well, you get out plenty, my friend but you might consider taking a class on insects, just for, as you say, FUN! Glad you enjoyed the video, buddy, thank you! 😊

Hey Phil, I took the 40-year-old house and am in the middle of refurbishing it top to bottom, inside and out. Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Window and Door Installers, Fence Installers, Loggers, and on and on. Your Shady Acres Woodshop Videos take me away from all the craziness I am going through right now. Keep them coming!!!!!
That is a great idea. I have been turning for about eight months and have been shocked at some of the expenses. Thanks for another great video. I really appreciate it.
Another beautiful piece Phil!!! I would love for you to do a video on costs. Being a beginner wood turner it would be to see the coat of different things. Stay safe and God bless
I think your idea has merit, Phil. It is amazing how quickly the cost of one’s hobby can raise your eyebrows. I try to buy in quantity when possible but between the taxman and the regularly increasing cost of living, I find myself using sandpaper a little longer than I used to, etc. I would love to see your idea on the cost of things.

Hi Phil, watch your videos every week and always look forward to the new one. Would love to see a video about the expenses of woodturning. Here in Canada, the costs are way too high, so I made my own carbide tools, skews, 3/8 gouge, chatter tool and a wood version of the wolverine jig with the varigrind attachment. I can't believe how well the jig works and for no cost.
Phil, Thanks for sticking with it to bring us yet another beautiful work. I really appreciate it. I don't often stop to think about all the work that takes place behind the scenes to bring us the final product. I've never done any video editing but can imagine it must be time consuming. I would love to see a episode depicting the financial side of our hobby and a deeper dive into the products you use. Keep on keeping on my friend.
Good stuff, Phil! That turned out great. As a fellow woodturner Idk that I'd like to see a video on the cost of things... my wife does a pretty good job reminding me how much I spend on supplies. Lol. I just remind her of some of my old hobbies and how much cheaper... and healthier, turning is. Works every time!
Wow! You don't shy away from tackling some pretty horrible chunks of wood, and as usual you end up with a fascinating art piece. FWIW, I don't find carbide tools boring. They just give better insight into what tools are available and how best to use them.

I don't think you are boring at all!!!!!!! I enjoy seeing the shape and the design/wood grain emerge. Seeing a lump of wood 🪵 turned into something beautiful is amazing
That bowl is absolutely stunning Phil, good job turning that - it was a bumpy ride! I'd love to see your costing break-down as I'd find it interesting comparing it with mine. I would remind anyone thinking of starting up turning as a hobby though, that you can have a lot of fun on a tight budget, and there are lots of different options depending on how much you have available.
Yes, Phil, show us the cost of your hobby. People don’t take into consideration supplies, tools and machinery. Like quilting, they think it’s all freebie stuff not even thinking about your time and training.😊
Phil…wow wow! This is my favorite type of turnings there is always so much to catch the eye! Its just beautiful! Oh and your idea for a supply cost video would be great it would be a great topic. Thanks again for always creating something cool!
Nice piece as usual Phil. I would be interested in the products you purchase, starting off with that really cool mallet you used with your center punch 😂!
It is never boring to see you at work, you are skilled and strong enough to hold your lathesteel. And you tell us on the road so we get to feel empathy in what you do. And I'm sure we all admire you. 👍
Woohoo Phill you know after watching all your video's, I now can look at wood in a different way, instead of just a cheak of a log for a bowl. Love your work mate bloody ripper. 👍👍👍Ernie smith from brisbane Australia
I don't know how you do it Phill, that piece looked like a disaster until you finished it, I couldn't believe how great it looked, you really are a master wood turner, I love your work.
A marvelous bowl, and a good reason to show people what this little hobby costs and why the pieces are more expensive than " made in china". I would rather give a piece to someone grateful than argue price with anyone.
At about 0:14 I see another cow face, facing the camera but looking up toward the right. Always enjoy watching you work and you musings along the way. Thanks
Never boring Phil whatever tool you use, your delicacy of touch is always beautiful to watch. This piece was amazing to see developing out of that knotty old piece of wood. I was seeing a cow face just not the one you described so I scrolled back and saw yours, she's very handsome and graceful looking, I'm glad I found her. 🐮 I know you had a struggle to get this one done on time...(though I for one would still watch if it was a bit late!) but seeing you do the little bits we don't normally see made a nice change. Beautiful bowl, as ever, Phil👍🙏🐮 Edit: forgot to say that yes I'd be interested in a video of what kit you use etc I could listen to you all day. 😊
Oh boy Phil I really like this bowl. For me it hits on all cylinders. As you started to turn I could see you will have a ton of color and character. Yes I see a cows face 😃 My vote is do a cost video. It would be interesting to hear the cost of your tools. Thanks for the show! Joel
I see lots of things in there Phil besides a beautiful bowl. When you said cow face I started looking around. Look to the left upper corner at 20:56 . I see a dogs face in that patch of brown. Then I saw the cows face. Man that was a tough one but well worth it. You deserve a break but a short one because you got to get to editing so I can see this...oh wait I just watched it LOL I know what you mean about taking a long time. By the way I was multi tasking during the video. While watching I was putting DNA on a hot glue joint. All while sitting inside nice and warm in front my computer. I just does not get any better! Great job my friend, Gary
Oh, man, I had to read that and keep re-reading it. "DNA on a hot glue joint." I kept thinking you meant you burned yourself on the hot glue gun, leaving your DNA behind. 😊 NOW I get it, denatured alcohol! LOL! I'm listening to a talk show as I type this and maybe I was just distracted! LOL! Thanks, buddy, now I have so much more to think about!
Well with all the crime shows we watch DNA has multiple meanings for sure. If I say DNA thinks I may have left evidence on her dessert I took when she wasn't looking LOL.
Again, you did a great job! But the face I see is that of a golden retriever! Maybe I just have dogs on my mind? I think your idea of a video of the costs of woodturning is a great idea! It is very expensive, especially if oneneedsto buy wood! It's crazy what they're selling common woods for! Thank you again Phil, I lovewatching your videos, some I've watched a few times even!
Goodness, that turned out just lovely, Phil. I saw the cow, too. I have cow figurines all over the house. They are my collectibles. It looked rough to turn. You powered through so we wouldn't be disappointed. Have a lovely weekend.
I agree with you that it is a gorgeous piece! I love this kind of turning where the chunk of wood is so oddly shaped and contains all kinds of cracks and bark inclusions! Yes, I would love it if you did a video on the cost of turning. I can't even imagine how much I spend on it.
Apple! My favorite. I just don't get to play with it often because I find it so difficult to season. You did your magic again. Thanks Phil. Thanks Valerie.

Another beautiful piece Phil. I love the many shapes a colors and grain patterns. It’s interesting how you can turn what seems like a large and clumsy piece of wood. But that’s what experience allows you. Great job. And yes, I would like a video on things like cost, time and what ever else you come up with. You appear to be a good storyteller and have a nice folksy way about you. If I didn’t live 3000 miles away from you I’d drop in for coffee and conversation. BTW you end all your videos with “signing off”. Are you a ham operator? Seems like that expression is common with that hobby. Keep those videos coming! Cosmo from Billerica, MA.
Yes, please do the video you talked about. As someone finally taking the plunge of getting into turning it would be of great benefit to me. Thank you in advance.

I'm so glad you like it, Linda, thank you! 😊
That old chuck of wood had a hidden beauty. Great turning Phil.
😊
Moooooo!! Hey Phil, it is NEVER boring watching you create your wonders, regardless of what tool you are using!
Once more you have given us both a great piece of art and a good laugh!
Thank you for bringing some light at the end of a rough day (it's nearly 1am here in England!)
Go to bed, Phil! 😊
I don't think you are boring at all!!!!!!! I enjoy seeing the shape and the design/wood grain emerge. Seeing a lump of wood 🪵 turned into something beautiful is amazing
Awesome, thank you, Holly! 😊
All true, Paul! 😊
Yes, Phil, show us the cost of your hobby. People don’t take into consideration supplies, tools and machinery. Like quilting, they think it’s all freebie stuff not even thinking about your time and training.😊
😊
I would love to see the costs and compare it to my expenses versus any turnings I might sell.
😊
Another great bowl Phil! As a new turner I would like to see a video on the tools you use and the costs.
😊
Yes! Please give us info on some of the actual cost of things when it comes to this hobby. Appreciate all your work!
😊
Phil…wow wow! This is my favorite type of turnings there is always so much to catch the eye! Its just beautiful! Oh and your idea for a supply cost video would be great it would be a great topic. Thanks again for always creating something cool!
😊
Phil as always you turned a piece of fire wood into a beautiful bowl
😊
Nice piece as usual Phil. I would be interested in the products you purchase, starting off with that really cool mallet you used with your center punch 😂!
😊
I guess I have to get back to my wood shed and crank up my lathe. You're an inspiration to all who watch Phil. Liked and shared.
It's about time, Nathan! 😊
Yes, I can diffidently see the cows face in this gnarly bowl. Well done Phil.
😊
Boring to watch? Not at all because you are teaching me the different techniques of turning. Thank you!
Thanks, Ross! 😊
Its a real adventure turning lopsided chunks of wood. I just did a demo for my woodturning club and your work was the inspiration. Thanks!
Cool, thanks, Gary! 😊
Love this bowl ... can definitely see a cute cow face in there 🐮
😊
It is never boring to see you at work, you are skilled and strong enough to hold your lathesteel. And you tell us on the road so we get to feel empathy in what you do.
And I'm sure we all admire you. 👍
😊
Woohoo Phill you know after watching all your video's, I now can look at wood in a different way, instead of just a cheak of a log for a bowl. Love your work mate bloody ripper. 👍👍👍Ernie smith from brisbane Australia
Thank you, Ernie! 😊 Australia is on the outside of the bowl!
I don't know how you do it Phill, that piece looked like a disaster until you finished it, I couldn't believe how great it looked, you really are a master wood turner, I love your work.
So kind of you, thank you! 😊
Great job. I saw a dog face on the opposite side of the cow face! Beautiful piece. ❤
😊
Nice job Phil! Cow face.....yep! Of course id like to see a "whats it cost?" video. 😎❤👍
😊
Love the out come Phil injoyed and a massive mooooo😂❤
LOL! Thanks, Evan! 😊
A marvelous bowl, and a good reason to show people what this little hobby costs and why the pieces are more expensive than " made in china". I would rather give a piece to someone grateful than argue price with anyone.
😊
At about 0:14 I see another cow face, facing the camera but looking up toward the right. Always enjoy watching you work and you musings along the way. Thanks
Thanks, Kirk! 😊
I know you had a struggle to get this one done on time...(though I for one would still watch if it was a bit late!) but seeing you do the little bits we don't normally see made a nice change.
Beautiful bowl, as ever, Phil👍🙏🐮
Edit: forgot to say that yes I'd be interested in a video of what kit you use etc I could listen to you all day. 😊
Thank you, Jude! 😊
Thank you Phil, another wonderful piece. A video on the expense side of the craft would be great. Cow face, hummm.
😊
There's a small dog on the inside and I saw a racoon on the outside. Wonderful bowl. Lot's to look at and enjoy!
I see the dog, John! 😊
I thought that was a too big, bulky and odd shaped of a piece. But Phil turned it into a very, very nice and interesting bowl. 👍👍
Thank you, Teddy! 😊
Love it 💜 Boy I was surprised, waiting to hear you say….the right hand on the gauge, the left hand on the switch…..and it didn’t come 🤭
Sorry, I had to hurry! 😊
From fire to art. Great looking piece.
Thank you, Don! 😀
Oh boy Phil I really like this bowl. For me it hits on all cylinders. As you started to turn I could see you will have a ton of color and character. Yes I see a cows face 😃
My vote is do a cost video. It would be interesting to hear the cost of your tools.
Thanks for the show!
Joel
Thank you, Joel, noted! 😊
I see lots of things in there Phil besides a beautiful bowl. When you said cow face I started looking around. Look to the left upper corner at 20:56 . I see a dogs face in that patch of brown.
Then I saw the cows face.
Man that was a tough one but well worth it. You deserve a break but a short one because you got to get to editing so I can see this...oh wait I just watched it LOL
I know what you mean about taking a long time.
By the way I was multi tasking during the video. While watching I was putting DNA on a hot glue joint. All while sitting inside nice and warm in front my computer. I just does not get any better!
Great job my friend,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Did someone say dessert?!?!?
Thanks for putting the time in to get this one done Phil. Another great piece. 😊
😊
Again, you did a great job! But the face I see is that of a golden retriever! Maybe I just have dogs on my mind? I think your idea of a video of the costs of woodturning is a great idea! It is very expensive, especially if oneneedsto buy wood! It's crazy what they're selling common woods for! Thank you again Phil, I lovewatching your videos, some I've watched a few times even!
Thank you, Lori! 😊
Goodness, that turned out just lovely, Phil. I saw the cow, too. I have cow figurines all over the house. They are my collectibles. It looked rough to turn. You powered through so we wouldn't be disappointed. Have a lovely weekend.
It's fun to see and know what people collect, Jane. Sooo many options! 😊
Beautiful , Phil l saw a lobster on the back. Just beautiful. Thank you 😊
😊
I think the oddly shaped pieces of wood are some of your best bowls. They are unique and beautiful good job taking that on it didn’t look easy.
I think so too, Leona! They are a lot more challenging but usually worth the effort. I'm glad you think so, too! 😊
A wood lathe is an gateway drug! Sure would love to see what you bought and such. Bring it on.
😊
Phil this is one of the best you have done. Thanks Phil. God bless you sir!
😊
I agree with you that it is a gorgeous piece! I love this kind of turning where the chunk of wood is so oddly shaped and contains all kinds of cracks and bark inclusions! Yes, I would love it if you did a video on the cost of turning. I can't even imagine how much I spend on it.
It adds up quickly doesn't it, Carol! 😊
Apple! My favorite. I just don't get to play with it often because I find it so difficult to season. You did your magic again. Thanks Phil. Thanks Valerie.
You are trying to season the cracks out of it, Tom. 😊 Ain't happening! LOL!
...it just amazes me how you can take something so gnarly and turn it into something so beautiful...👍
Matt
Thanks a lot, Matt! 😊
Beautiful work Phil! I think a video of talking about how much stuff cost and what you use would be great. Can't wait to see it. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
😊
Wonderful job, Phil. Such beautiful colors. I watch all your videos and would be very interested in what you believe are the basic essentials for a person to get started in woodturning. (Especially when it comes to which gouges to buy.) Sort of a "Gotta have a _________."
Thanks for being a great teacher!
😊
You always come up with some unique pieces Phil, and yes I would be very interested in knowing are there everything cost to get started in wood turning
😊
Wow! Your projects are always fun to watch and your finished product is always so delightful. I learn a lot from watching. Please keep em coming and we’ll keep on telling you how wonderful you really are. 🥸👍✅
😊
Awesome apple crotch bowl, Phil. It is absolutely gorgeous! 😊😊
😊
Very pretty whole Lotta character! My sister would love that. She is into black and white cows in her kitchen.
😊
I would like to see a video like that for sure Phil. Please do. 👍😊
😊
Thanks, Cosmo! I think I got that from listening to late night radio when they weren't 24 hours per day. 😊
Beautiful!! 👍👍 This gets my vote for favorite M&M bowl 🤓
😊
I love the way you are always caressing your finished pieces with your hands. They must feel really lovely to touch. I envy you that. Well done Phil!!
😊
My lord that is an amazing transformation!! I’m glad your back to turning on a regular basis sir.
😊
The expense involved is really interesting for someone just getting in
😊
I love the way you take an unusual shape and turn it into a beautiful piece of a skilled craftsman. Thank you.
😊
Yes, please do the video you talked about. As someone finally taking the plunge of getting into turning it would be of great benefit to me. Thank you in advance.
😊
Another great looking piece, Phil! Yes, I saw the cow face.
Cool, thanks, Billy! 😊
Yes a video on cost of tools , supplies would be awesome
Thank you
😊
A cow and a beautiful finish. Thanks Phil.
😊
I think a video on the expenses of woodturning would be beneficial to a lot of folks. I really enjoyed this episode. Have you ever had a smokey vapor come off the wood when using thin CA on some punky areas?
I have had smoke and smell from the CA, Bruce. Best to work quickly and stand back! 😄 I made the expenses video. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/ARTxbJ1h7zg/видео.html
