Tuffy is such a good mate and has our thanks for his support of giving you weird and wonderful wood to turn❤❤❤ even if you are rolling your eyes off camera when you see his latest gift 😂
I love the fact that you test for how the wood feels to your fingers - that you are so sensitive to the smoothness of the wood. That’s what drew me to woodworking in the first place. I also like that you point out faces or images in the wood.
I do see the pig, and Princess Leia's hairdo! I also see a bowl which would be great, and stable, as a mixing bowl. It would also look wonderful filled with shiny red apples. Thanks for sharing this with us!
You've completely changed my concept of bowl turning, you preserve the bark and shape of the tree as well as the grain and still make a beautiful bowl. You also teach us and share your experience of creating a lovely artistic piece. Thanks!
Just love that wood, especially the spalting. Love the deer story, you live in a wonderful place Phil. Thanks for sharing. Stay Safe, regards, Jules, Droitwich, England
Thank you, Jules! Yup, lots of wildlife here. I was driving around my driveway the other night and the mom and baby were lying down in the woods, just off the driveway. As I passed the baby stood up and jumped right in front of me! Thankfully I wasn't going too fast and stopped but I would have felt so bad! Lucky for both of us. 😊
Princess Leia’s hair? Hahahaha! You made Gayle laugh out loud again, Phil, so this must be a good one. Nice one, buddy! Tuffy comes through with a winner again! 👍👍👍
I love pigs and love your piggy bowl with the spalting. I wish I had your eye for leaving more natural features instead of turning them away. I’m learning slowly, so thank you!
It's a hard lesson to learn, Brenda. Knowing when to stop is a learned skill. Just stop often, take the time to look it over, think through the "what ifs." 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Carl from Berkeley & Sweden... I stopped at Carl's house because his "Honey For Sale" sign was out. Leaving with several gift jars of honey I asked Carl if I could have one piece of his dry firewood for my friend Phil up in Washington. I must have been quite a sight slowly caring the wood & honey & walking stick for several miles ( I was much younger several months ago, ha). ... Phil YOU are the idea behind those sanders. I just made some examples for you to try. Those sanders would not be around if it was not for you. ... Phil you pulled another wonderful turning out of your bag of skills despite all the punky wood. Quite nice Phil and as always FUN TO WATCH ADVENTURES ON YOUR LATHE.....TM
I love your hiking stories about the people you meet, Tuffy! Thanks for lugging this thing along with you and for sending it up here. I hope Carl gets to see what it has become. 😊
Nice job Phil! You’ve given me the solution to a knobbly piece of wood I have had stored for a couple of years. Keep these wonder videos coming. Thanks for your efforts.
I just love your imagination! I definitely can see the piggy. The finish is beautiful and of course the bark is wonderful. You have a great style that I really enjoy.
What a combination of vision, skill and patience that is an example to we lesser folk to encourage us to think outside convention! Thank you for the inspiration.
I love it Phil, I see the pig connection and all the beautiful features - also looks a bit like an elephants foot! All the best Phil, hope you're keeping ok!
Masterful job, Phil with that soft stuff! We use that wood for bowdrill hearth boards for firebuilding. “It’s just the wood”! Made a nice piggy from that piece of wood from CARL!👍👍👌👌👏👏
Another world class piece Phil. Your videos inspired me to buy a lathe and start turning bowls from 6 old growth Black Walnut trees that were downed on my farm from a tornado 5 years ago. I have used many tips from your turning and I still watch every one to learn more. Thank You so very much for your vision and inspirational turnings. Your work is absolutely stunning and I hope you continue for at least 100 more years. 😃😃
Wow, what a great comment, Jerry! You make me sit up a little straighter this morning! Enjoy your new hobby and all that wonderful Black Walnut, you are fortunate to have such a great wood for your turnings! 😊
It’s the time you take to sand and finish that makes this a piece of art. Grand job. The Simon hope wood turners shop is only 50 miles from mine and I have been resisting the urge to visit. My wallet is not up too it 😢😂😂
Great Artwork Phil as always. If you only knew how much inspiration you and other wood turners have had on me and my own turning work, and I'm sure others. Happy turning my friend ☺️.
Wow Phil, I'm gaining trust all the time! You stated it was gonna look great, and by golly, you were right. They say familiarity breeds contempt. I don't agree with that. You have a great eye to see the finished project inside the raw material, and after watching you complete so many beautiful turnings, I'm gonna believe if you say it, then it's gonna happen! I only wish I had found your channel earlier, but late to the party is better than not at all! Thanks for all you are doing, you have helped me stay sane while recuperating! Blessings, Rick
You are so blessed to have mama doe and baby stop by to check on you. How exciting. There are people in our world who have never seen wildlife except in the zoo and you have them literally on you doorstep.
A lovely bit of wood turning their I broke my phones I have only got my contacts back now I can keep an eye on you now feel last time I spoke to you you wasn't now hope you're feeling well now mate I love watching your work you are an inspiration to everyone thank you mate
I wasn’t really sure where you were going with this piece. I couldn’t see what you saw. Boy! What a diamond in the rough. Gives me something to think about when I come across a chunk of wood that the fire wood guys even pass up. Thanks Phill, great video!!!
Beautiful piece Phil so much to see love it. I hope one day I can turn wood half as good as you do. Take care see you again soon and thank you 👍👍👍😊😊😊♥️
So much to be learned from this one Phil. So much to appreciate. Thanks again and again and again. I think I'll just send you all my unturned wood and watch you work your magic on it!
Hi Phil... Great job and a great video as always... I know that there is a piggy there but these always make me think of an Elephant's foot... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Very cool like it a lot thanks for sharing
I'm glad you like it 😊
Tuffy is such a good mate and has our thanks for his support of giving you weird and wonderful wood to turn❤❤❤ even if you are rolling your eyes off camera when you see his latest gift 😂
Haha, you've been peeking at me, Jay! 😊
Thanks for making my day Phil I was bored watching regular TV. 😀
Any time! 😊
That Tuffy is such a card.
😊
I love the fact that you test for how the wood feels to your fingers - that you are so sensitive to the smoothness of the wood. That’s what drew me to woodworking in the first place. I also like that you point out faces or images in the wood.
Thank you so much, Susannah! 😊
Always a pleasure to watch one of Phil’s videos. 👍👍
😊
I do see the pig, and Princess Leia's hairdo! I also see a bowl which would be great, and stable, as a mixing bowl. It would also look wonderful filled with shiny red apples. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Ohhh, I love the look of shiny red apples, Stephanie! 😊
You've completely changed my concept of bowl turning, you preserve the bark and shape of the tree as well as the grain and still make a beautiful bowl. You also teach us and share your experience of creating a lovely artistic piece. Thanks!
Best compliment I could receive, Tim! 😊
And this is why I love this channel! I'm so glad you enjoy it too.

Beautiful Piece Phil, squeal, squeal.

Wow, Tuffy's sanders really cleaned the inside right up
I was impressed! 😊
We love how you explain every step and how you walk us through your thought process!! Thank you for sharing!!!
And I love that you watch so, win, win! 😊
Just love that wood, especially the spalting. Love the deer story, you live in a wonderful place Phil. Thanks for sharing. Stay Safe, regards, Jules, Droitwich, England

Princess Leia’s hair? Hahahaha! You made Gayle laugh out loud again, Phil, so this must be a good one. Nice one, buddy! Tuffy comes through with a winner again! 👍👍👍
I'm glad somebody was laughing, Gord! This one gave me a workout! LOL! Thanks, buddy! 😊
I love your gentle humour and considerate explanations of what you’re doing. Piggy and Princess Leigha- your so lovely and funny.
Thank you so much! 😊
I like the pale yellow/creamy color of the wood. The light black lines running throughout the bowl remind me of an antiqued map inside!
Yes, Robin, I see the map! 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Carl from Berkeley & Sweden... I stopped at Carl's house because his "Honey For Sale" sign was out. Thanks, Steven! 😊
🐷 very nice! Enjoyed it Phil!! I love pigs..
😊
I love it. A bit like an elephant's foot, very much nature, Beautiful.
Carsten
Thank you very much, Carsten! Everyone is saying elephant so maybe I should re-title this video. 😊
Definitely looks like a piggy Phill. Beautiful natural bowl.
You and your great videos are the reason we are building a shop and ordering a Record Power Envoy lathe.
Thanks Phil, I think! Lol
Wow, how cool is that!! Enjoy your new hobby and thanks for watching and commenting, Wayne! 😊
Thank you for the elephant's foot bowl. Beautiful.
😊
Wow 🤩 what a result Phil. Your wood turning is unique and the best ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a combination of vision, skill and patience that is an example to we lesser folk to encourage us to think outside convention! Thank you for the inspiration.
"Lesser folk" Hardly, Owen!! 😊
Wow, the shine on the bark is really cool, give praise to the sand-o-flex. Would love one. Great piece phil as always.

Magical. Not ugly at all. I enjoy these videos.
😊
Any day when we are visited by deer, is a good day! Thanks for sharing the yarn!!

A beautiful natural turning Phil. Loved hearing about your visitor too. 🦌 Keep on keeping on 😊
😊
A Pleasure as always. Unique and beautiful another success. I find your path to the birth of a new peace to be as interesting as the turning its self.
How wonderful, thanks, George! 😊
Great details in the grain, the dark lines really keep it interesting.
😊
Genius Phil. I thought you should keep turning but, no. Wonderful piece. As usual. Thanks for your inspiration
😊
Very imaginative bowl. The inside reminds me of an old map. I see the pig and the princess. Piggy also resembles Quasimodo with his one droopy eye.
Thank you, Karen! 😊
Another great looking piece Phil. I got a good giggle from the sad eye piggy. Take care and have a good one.
😊
Again a beautiful peace of woodart. Greetings from also rainy Hoorn, Holland
No rain here, today! Sunny but chilly. Thank you for watching! 😊
Another great result, Phil. If I was a turner, I would return it to the firewood bin. You know better!
Haha, Richard! You are right, I do know better. If you have a lathe, there is no such thing as firewood! 😃
No judgment here, Phil. I trust your process!
😊
Lovely to hear you well Phil. Beautiful work x
😊
Masterful job, Phil with that soft stuff!
We use that wood for bowdrill hearth boards for firebuilding.
