Lily will treasure that box forever! I still remember my great-grandfather fondly, and he didn’t even make me a box! He let us play with a couple of his old cigar boxes and empty beer cans (Schmidt’s) that he had cut the ends off and sanded. Doesn’t take much to make a memory with a child. He and my great-grandmother lived down in Eatonville, and we always loved going to visit!
What a lovely little 'box' Phil. Beautifully turned with a lovely finish. This little box will last for the use of many generations to come after Lily, who will absolutely love it, is ready to pass it on. Time well spent watching & listening to you as you worked your way through this 'little gem' my friend. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Cute box that I am sure Lilly will love for many years and I am sure some of your other great grandchildren will want one too, well done and thanks! Cheers Al
What a cute little box Phil and one I'm sure your Great Granddaughter will love and cherish for years. Hope all goes well in the hospital for you my friend. Cheers, Huw
My dad in 7th grade made his dad a box with a hinged lid. When I was 5 I sat on this box on a step stool while my grandpa cut my hair. Both are now gone I’m 66 and have this box and stool. Some of my cherished items. Lily will have this for ever and it will be passed down. Way to go Pops Thanks for the show. Joel
Phil that is just the best piece ever! Made with love and a precious heirloom to pass down from a wonderful grandfather. It’s just the kind of gift to be treasured. I’m 65 and I have many special treasures my Grandfather made for me as a child. You are so thoughtful.
Very nice gift Phil! That will be cherished for a long time. I made a wooden truck for my grandson that I hope will be given to his son, grandson, etc. Thank you for sharing this. 👍
Great video Phil. Not only will Lily love the box & see how it was made but it's showing not so skilled turner's, like myself & others, a well explained process. Fantastic buddy ! 👍🏴
Howdy Phil. That's a cute little box. I'm sure your grand daughter will cherish it. As time goes by & she stops losing teeth, she'll find another use for it like her rings & other small things. I like the laser engraving you did on the top. I've really got to get one of those. just as soon as I get a garage stretcher to make room for it. Take care and keep turning. Happy New Year!!!
Well done Phil, not just a cute little box, but a wonderful memory maker. I like it, thinking about trying one soon. Sure do appreciate your channel Phil, until next time... Dan
I sure enjoyed the video Phil. Such a fun project and I know Lily will love it. Gotta love quick and easy for sure. Been doing some of those myself. Take care my friend, Gary
Well Gramps...Lily is blessed to have a great grandfather like you. And I am sure that will long be a favorite of hers. Beautiful box Phil and Happy New Year!
I love the box and the idea of the box. I have grand children (mostly grown) for whom I have made things. For my Lily, for instance, I made a rocking horse when she was very young. Envious of you having great grands :). I'm sure she will treasure it! Watching this on 1/9/25 hoping you're doing OK!
Hi Phil, welcome to 2025, I'm about 10 days late watching this great little project. I hope you don't mind if I make a couple of comments that may be useful. 1 proportions, remember The age old rule of thirds. 2 when fitting the lid we usually start with a slight taper on the tendon and when the lid starts to fit, it's easier to refine the rest of the fit. 3 your Sorby spiral tool, I think the more acute the angle the finer the spiral until it eventually changes to dots. 4 for closer grain match I use a parting tool made from industrial hacksaw blade 1/16 th inch, and insert a sleeve from same or different piece of wood for a tennon. Tooth Fairy boxes are very popular here and make special keepsakes especially from Great Grandfather. Very nicely done. Regards George
😄 Wow! What a cute idea! I need to find some grandchildren or great nieces/nephews so that I can imitate you. Thanks, Phil! You're always an inspiration!
child toys made by neighbors and family are always the best. Let's just all be careful not to create sparks this week so we don't have any more fires. In fact, everyone should donate a buck or two if you can to the fire relief in Los Angeles. Many of the fire fighters also lost their own homes. A little prayer may help as well. Meanwhile, back to the lathe.🔥
Phil happy new year. Love the little tooth fary box for Lily!!!! I have made hundreds for little acorn shaped boxes for people. Black walnut for the top and white oak for the bottom (seed) part and I always have trouble getting the right fit between the 2 parts. I'm sure she will LOVE it and pass it down. You are a AWSOME grandpa!!!!Thanks again for another GREAT video Terry
Well, Phil this video was just in time. I also am turning a box for my great granddaughter, and I needed some pointers and there you are. My great granddaughter is 4 years old. She needs hers for her earrings. Thank you so much for being there when I needed you. That is a great box by the way, so mine will be similar.
I made similar boxes out of different woods for my grandchildren as well. I lined them with flocking and they are their Tooth-fairy boxes. I have made many as gifts for friends grandchildren as well. Great job, Phil. This is such a pleasant way to spend a Thursday evening. As always, thanks for this, Sir.
Very cool! Hey, don't knock spirals -- as a budding Celtic knot artist, I know how much practice it takes to draw them. You're lucky to have that neat tool. Would love to have one myself...😊
Love it! I like how the bottom of the inside is kind of rounded. Perfect for a smooth transaction with the tooth fairy! Molar Holder? ATM (Another Tooth Missing)? Bite Bank? Tooth Tank?
Very cute........I also have a great granddaughter Lily. But I think she is like 11. Haven't seen here in 8 years as she live in AR. Anyway, love the cute little box. ❤ Happy New Year

Sweet gift, Phil. Just a thought, maybe plumbers tape would give that lid the friction fit you seek.
Thank you! 😊 I only needed the friction fit for turning the two halves together. Now that it's done, I have the perfect fit that I wanted.
Lilly is going to love it. I bet her momma will love it even more. You did a great job. I think I’m going to steal it. Thanks for sharing.
Prediction: This will become one of your granddaughter's most treasured heirlooms. What a beautiful act of love from Gramps. Excellent.

Very very cute box Phil! Luv it. Well done and take care
Cute little box Phil!!! 🙂
On tenon's that are slightly undersized you can always turn a small groove in it then fit a rubber O-ring. It'll hold very well that way.
Very nice little heirloom Phil.
That is so cute! Good job Gramps!!
