Well, at that point, the bark was pretty delicate. I feel like a nipper might have been too aggressive and would have broken it more than cut it. It's a "you had to be there" kind of thing, I think. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff.
Phil Anderson - Shady Acres Woodshop I certainly don’t doubt your take on the situation and do appreciate the videos. I am off from work, so binge watching your videos😀
Hahahaha! I was quite surprised when I googled the african sumac just to find out that this tree is called the karee in my country, South Africa. We have literally thousands of these trees on our sidewalks and in our gardens. I have burnt so many pieces of this tree and can tell you, I did not experience it to be poisonous at all. After watching this video I am rather going to save pieces to turn! Never knew it to be this beautiful!
I guess different varieties are poisonous. Glad to know yours aren't among them, Philip. I'm so glad you will try turning it! 😊 You are right, it's a beautiful wood!
Hi Phil. I'm Seth from the UK ,I turned my first live edge bowl today after watching your very helpful video . It's not perfect ,mine I mean but the wife is happy with my first attempt .so thanks Phil .
Very nice bark and the bowl has a lot of character. I really appreciate that you provide a narrative that includes the lathe speed, chisel choice and the mask and face shield reminder. Thanks for sharing!
Phil, it's always a pleasure watching your videos, another great piece. You have inspired me to continue to turn wood in it's natural state as Mother Nature intended.
For me, the bark makes the bowl. It’s just perfect. Great job of turning, Phil. You created a real work of art with that shape and the bark hanging in there like that. Beautiful job, as always, my friend! Stay safe and healthy! 😷😷😷😷😷 Happy turning, .....Gord
"Poisonous"...gee maybe you need a new friend...lol 🤭 I think this one is my all-time ultimate favorite!!! I love, love, love it! Such a beautiful piece of art!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Actually the proper title or greeting is "Your Grace" for my station as a Duchess. "Your Highness" is the title for a woman (or man) about to be crowned Queen/King who has never been Queen/King before. You would be an asset to the Medieval Kingdom you live in with your magnificent woodworking skills! Their Majesties (King & Queen 🤴👸) would welcome you with open arms 😉👍😁 Like I said check us out & see which Kingdom you reside in and the group in your town. Tell them I sent you, I speak highly of your talent/craft & wish a peer would take you under their wing. You have to start out as an apprentice but you will quickly be elevated to the title/peerage of Master 😁👍
Well, this is very interesting, Your Grace! I did Google you but didn't find much. A video from another similar group, but not you. We have a Renaissance Faire that happens here in my small town for I think three, maybe four, weekends each August. It's a huge event! Traffic is backed up for miles each time they come to town. Thank you for all the interesting information!
Beautiful! I love when there is still bark on the piece. I did look up the tree, and it is indeed dangerous as it can cause allergic reactions to skin.
Wooooooah I panic turning Yew, your's beat it hand's down. But it's a beautiful wood when turned. A Stunning Piece ... BIG THUMBS-UP ALL DAY LONG 👍😷👍 Take care my friend.
From the start I knew you’d do a great job. The beautiful grain was evident immediately. The finish highlights the beauty of the wood as does the shape. This is certainly one of my favorites that you’ve done.💕
Phil you sure out the hurt on that piece of wood. It is fantastic beautiful and everything else to say about it. Phil when u say “face mask & shield on” reminds me of “beam me up Scottie” for some reason. Thanks for sharing and stay safe friend.
I've been watching your channel for a couple of months. I've never commented but I had to tell you this is THE most beautiful piece I've seen you do so far. It is so graceful. The silky smooth surface and gently rounded shape beg to be touched. I'm not a wood worker. I just love the natural beauty of wood and appreciate your craft. When anxiety or insomnia strikes I can always count on your videos to bring me peace.
Absolutely beautiful wood and the shape you chose is the perfect compliment to the bark. The only thing that could make it better is to have another one just like it.
Hi Phil, Should be Tremendously Turned Tuffy's Toxic Timber in the catalogue. Nice one buddy. God bless, stay safe. Tony

Thank you very much, David!
Great Piece the fact that it's "supposedly" poisonous makes is that much more alluring and mysterious!
Thanks, Allen! 😊
A beautiful bowl 'Uncle' Phil!👍
Thank you kindly, Dwayne!
Could you use tile nippers or wire cutting pliers on the bark that was overhanging. Beautiful bowl Phil you make it look so easy.
Well, at that point, the bark was pretty delicate. I feel like a nipper might have been too aggressive and would have broken it more than cut it. It's a "you had to be there" kind of thing, I think. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff.
