  • Interesting piece about the state of shoe fashion in the 50s. Aside from the occasion odd, quirky shoe, there hasn’t truly been a major development or change in shoes.

    Anyone interested give the podcast Dressed a listen. They have a great episode on shoes and fashion that came out of France during the Nazi blockade during WW2. It was the reason cork, block, and plastic heels came into being in western fashion because leather was rationed so much that people could hardly repair or get new shoes, so they found alternatives in materials that were more available.

    What they don't say is that the ones which go to a narrow point caused permanent damage to the toes, permanently making them cross over and be very uncomfortable. Also bunions.

  • @Ishtars_Star

    i am more than sure it was done back then. a lot of times they would use the same guy with the same voice. for example, most movie trailers in the 90s and 2000s used to use the same guys voice.... hahaha :)

    • @angr3819
      @angr3819 Год назад

      My sister could wear 6 inch stiletto heels and look elegant as she walked. Not that she waked far in them. From a car to a restaurant and later back to a car. She would say that certain shoes were to look pretty and sit down. Not to walk about or dance.

      forgive my poor english. due to the fact that chinese women used to bind their feet, their feet are much smaller. so the sole may not seen so poking to the feet. and these are weard by the women from man nationality. they like to wear long gown, so you know the shoes for. and the noise while walking could scare the snake... they believed so. the most funny part is that they found women wearing these would swing their arms more heavily.... made them look more charming while walking....

    • @angr3819
      @angr3819 Год назад

      @@sijiachen8327 Foot binding was in China mostly before WWII, for I am not mistaken. Never heard of it done elsewhere. We were taught it was to stop women from running away.

      Fun fact: They don't walk like that (in the video) they don't point their feet down to the ground. They would balance themselves on that pile, they will have one assistant to help them sustain their balance while walking. (Note that these shoes aren't normally worn, it was for nobles.)
