- Interesting piece about the state of shoe fashion in the 50s. Aside from the occasion odd, quirky shoe, there hasn’t truly been a major development or change in shoes.

for us vintage is 1950's and for the 1950's vintage is the end of the 1800's
That's funny! But true.
I would totally wear those boots with the mock buttons, I love ankle boots :)
i want a pair of those shoes with the swans in them.
I would totally wear the purple elven flats today!!
People would laugh if you wore them to class. You are very bold.
yes they're traditional arabic shoes...she bought them in abu dhabi
50's fashion is so glamorous!
I love how much experimentation there was in terms of style and design even if it was totally tacky.
1:30 I would so wear those.
I would still wear so many of these! Love vintage shoes
1.51 sorry but her quick little walk 😂
Some of these shoes can be worn today.
@1:18 till 1:44. I want and I would wear those pretty shoes in this 21st Century.
Two swans in a shoe, fantastic!!!
Anyone interested give the podcast Dressed a listen. They have a great episode on shoes and fashion that came out of France during the Nazi blockade during WW2. It was the reason cork, block, and plastic heels came into being in western fashion because leather was rationed so much that people could hardly repair or get new shoes, so they found alternatives in materials that were more available.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! It really makes me wonder. I am sure that voice was recorded way back when, not recently. I'm going to look into it.
Thank you.
What they don't say is that the ones which go to a narrow point caused permanent damage to the toes, permanently making them cross over and be very uncomfortable. Also bunions.
So many gorgeous shoes! I really like those clips for shoes, I recently bought a pair of little silver bows but thesein this video are really classy!
Georgiana Quaint Often clip-on earrings were used.
Wow if I wore those shoes 1:15 to school I would get laughed at.
Well, you would. They weren't meant for schoolgirls 😊
My mother, born in the 1930s, would have loved the Swan Lake I'm sure. And not just because she was a Tchaikovski fan.
Loved the ones with the little animals!!:D
I had all sorts of clips for my black pumps! I could dress them up or wear to off with a black bow. The bows came in all sorts of colors…genius…I love that..
why those shoes are better than the shoes that we have today?! they look more artistic
Some of these shoes I'd wear today! I love older fashion styles!
Well then, in the year 2013. I WANT THOSE FREAKIN' LOVIN' SHOES.
it is the year 2021 and I also really love these shoes
The rose petal one is pretty
Fabulous shoes, I really like 1:11 for slippers maybe. I like 1:30 too :)
The red leather mules with the pointy toes are really cute.
A window into time , The last of the real hand made shoes .
1:26 how cute !
Beautiful shoes
Aaah if only mules came back in fashion again
these shoes are actually quite lovely :]
I want those shoes!!!
ohh i love high heels, vintage heels are the best, they smells good
The narrator sounds like Terrance from South Park.
That made it hard to listen afterward! LMAO
Here for it
Dice los zapatos del futuro, el futuro es hoy y no hay de esas maravillas 😫
I
I want those swan shoes!
Meeeee tooooooo
Anyone know where I could find the shoe 1:11?
Tacila De Melo this was in the 50s so an antique/collecter online
I want the swan shoes!
I’ve seen too many parodies and mockery’s that when I do watch genuine advertisements or programs from the past I can’t help but think it’s fake, it’s hard to unshake.
living that spat
Loving...?
lovely
It seems that in every video it's the same narrator. If so, was the narration done recently or did they actually use the same one for everything, back then?
i am more than sure it was done back then. a lot of times they would use the same guy with the same voice. for example, most movie trailers in the 90s and 2000s used to use the same guys voice.... hahaha :)
@komradecharon right, I see. thanks
❤️
1:07
I WANT IT!
1:50 😲
🤣🤣🤣
Saudações do Brasil 🇧🇷😘
I love that shoe with the white ribbon and rose.. is that weird? :p
They're feminine. I love them..
nice!!!!
2:00 the shoes of tomorrow is all about wedge, platform, sneakers and oh, sneakers.
even women back then were shaky in kitten heels, i can wear 3-6 inch heels but kitten heels are the death of me
My sister could wear 6 inch stiletto heels and look elegant as she walked. Not that she waked far in them. From a car to a restaurant and later back to a car. She would say that certain shoes were to look pretty and sit down. Not to walk about or dance.
1:47 🤦🏾♀️she not even walking in them correctly.
Fashion❤️♥️♥️
Heels were so low back then
1:45 are so cool does anyone know of any info about them
forgive my poor english. due to the fact that chinese women used to bind their feet, their feet are much smaller. so the sole may not seen so poking to the feet. and these are weard by the women from man nationality. they like to wear long gown, so you know the shoes for. and the noise while walking could scare the snake... they believed so. the most funny part is that they found women wearing these would swing their arms more heavily.... made them look more charming while walking....
@@sijiachen8327 Foot binding was in China mostly before WWII, for I am not mistaken. Never heard of it done elsewhere. We were taught it was to stop women from running away.
Fun fact: They don't walk like that (in the video) they don't point their feet down to the ground. They would balance themselves on that pile, they will have one assistant to help them sustain their balance while walking. (Note that these shoes aren't normally worn, it was for nobles.)
i was watching glozell...how did i get here
@whattwowhat I see. They are really similar, but I do see the difference now that you have pointed it out. They are indeed as similar as those movie trailer dark misterious men voices. I see how they could have set a standard easily.
Thank you for taking the time to explain my doubt.
I would use them. But not the "chinese" one. That one is so LOL
I want to learn how to make shoes. O,o
I've got too big feet for "normal" shoes for women. I feel like a transvestite from time to time, needing freaking huge shoes.
All of theese shoes are adorable! I want to make that swan lake shoe.
😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
I think the Chinese women's shoes from the last century should make a come back lol
Yes!
I wouldn't care to try walking in them.
And the fact that they didn't walk like that 😂😭
(They actually balance themselves on that one pile)
Some of these are obviously very uncomfortable
I wonder how much they barrow from the past today.
What goes around comes around 😊
@whattwowhat do you really know or are you just guessing?
Fashion back then was designed for people to wear it. Fashion designers today are only interested in outdoing other fashion designers with no interest in the consumer.
They also liked to sometimes have a chuckle and show off their skills with a few weird and wonderful pieces 😊
i'm glad i wasn't born then (:
1:06 ugly shoes
I know that. That doesnt answer my question
You can misd me with the chinese show
shoes that no one ever wore. lol
Many of these would be called cultural appropriation now
Only by the jealous - except for the Chinese shoes which with footbinding stopped women from running away.
Oh, and those which were curled over from the toes. Who would want them?
Fact is, fashion are a merry go round world over. What was there comes here and vice versa.
Have you seen footwear throughout history? 😁
stockings were awful, though!
