Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a huge event for fans of Square Enix's RPG series and anybody who got lost in the game's world 23 years ago. If you missed the boat back in 1997 or if JRPGs like Final Fantasy aren't your thing, though, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about. FF7's world is a bit confusing to begin with, and that's before you add all the additional caveats that come with the Remake--like the fact that it only covers a fraction of the original FF7 story.

I've never played an Final Fantasy game but I'm sold.
I never played the original and I'm not really into FF. But the hype and love this game is getting is making me want to get it. And the fact that every FF has a new world and story makes it easy for me to jump into this one because I won't feel lost even tho the game is called 7

Excellent video. I became a fan with FF15 and I’m stoked to experience 7 since it’s so renowned in the community!
Clocked in around 51 hours when I finished the game; running on 66 hours now revisiting chapters for Hard mode and missed trophies.
This was a great video! Just got it and im so excited to start playing.
I think reviewers are trying too damn hard not to spoil the thing, but this is no final fantasy 7 remake. It is a different story, and where the sequel will go is very uncertain. So, if you want the experience the original story, don't go for this one. Great game in other aspects tho.

The ending of this game was quite a surprise (a welcome one!) compared to the events of 'leaving Midgar' in the original game.
Once I figured out the reasoning behind this decision, I was happy for it to be there.

@@oiuik I would argue that most fans of the original would welcome a change like this instead of just the same game with better graphics - that's not worth £50-60 in my opinion.
Look at the success of RE2/RE3 Remake and the changes they made; risky ones, I'll agree, but with a great payoff. ^_^

I’m loving every minute of it. Does anybody here feel like I do? It reminds me of FFX a lot, the way its structured and the way the linearity is functional yet not bad like in 13.
I'm loving it man, currently on Hard chapter 14. Original is one of the best games ever made but this is also a Masterpiece in its own right. Like other people say I'd also call it a Reboot instead of a remake but it doesn't bother me since I really love the new more in depth story telling.
Having not played it as a kid I got put of knowing it's not the full story. I've loved what I've played thus far but I'll get back I'll start berseria up and kill time for the next part
How is it possible that Sephiroth looks more evil in the remake just that malicious intent I can see in his eyes makes me and his facial expressions and tone of voice and the way he speaks to you gives me chills

Saburo Okita A lot of people are interested in the game but simply aren’t sure. They weren’t gonna buy it at release they need more info or leverage to really make them feel comfortable making the purchase
FF16 was my second Final Fantasy after FF15. 16 was a fantastic experience especially since I loved how they leaned into more of a Medieval Fantasy feel. I’ll definitely be checking out this remake before rebirth comes out early next year.

Screenrant made an article saying that the creators make this game assuming you played the original or looked up spoilers bc they leave a bunch of story out that makes newcomers clueless throughout the game. Is this true?

With how awesome technology has gotten, I honestly wish we could get another game as expansive as the original in just 1 game. I literally had 80 hours in that game. I even had a little over 70 is ff10. I personally want more of that.

I played crisis core on the PSP (absolutely incredible game with amazing soundtrack) so I understand the setup for FF7, but I never played FF7 itself. I have the remake & rebirth twin pack pre ordered. I hope I won’t be too confused.
Are you kidding me? This video is just plain wrong. You will not have any idea what the ending means without knowledge of things like who Zack is, and what Sephiroth's ultimate goal is. Otherwise the time traveling / parallel dimensions/ breaking the chains of fate thing will make no sense to you at all.
Completely agreed I was trying to get my friends into this while I was playing and once I got to the ending I had to flat out tell them to not, i had to tell them get the orginal and possibly a psp emulator and play Crisis core after beating the orginal, it’s fine for all the people who are intimately familiar with the compilation of ff7 but this is a TERRIBLE jumping off point since the last 40 minutes will not make any sense unless you know some pretty big spoilers of FF7og

First of all the entire game isn't out yet. So how will people know about the other things until the entire game is out. Compared to when the original FF7 came out. It was a complete game then.
It is like picking up the original Halo and wanting to know the entire Halo story before the rest of the games out.
You want to know about other things like Zack? Pick up Crisis Core. If you want to know about other things about it you can Google it.
You could tell your friends a brief overview of it while not ruining it.

I bought both Ff 7 remake and Persona 5 royale..i decided to go with Ff 7 first cuz its the shorter game and im already 22 hours in..amazing game!
I had the deluxe editions since 04/10 and haven't played yet because I dont have a ps4. I'll admit I'm not tech saavy so this is why I'm asking the following......if I get my stimulus is it worth getting the ps4 pro for this game as I've head and read online by many the visuals and gameplay are improved compared to the standard ps4. I dont want to spend extra if it isn't worth it or does t show much of a difference than the ps4. Also since the ps4 should be out later this year should I not get a pro and save money, at the same time if the pro is graphically better and smoother gameplay then I want to play the game as best looking as I can, but it would be only for this game, maybe doom, and resident evil 2 remake. Also I have a standard 40 inch samsung tv, would a pro still bring out good visuals for that or would I need a uhd or 4k tv? Or was everyone satisfied with the ps4 alone and didnt have loading issues and visuals were still great?
I finished the game yesterday. It's just as amazing as any other Final Fantasy game. However, the ending of this game IS NOT like the same part on the original game. So, if you are wondering if you should play the original before playing this one, the answear is YES. Also, if you haven't played the original and don't know the complete story, the final scene of the game won't make any sense.
My suggestion: if possible, play the OG, if not, try to find a good video that explains the original story. The movie is optional, but if you can watch it, it's an interesting sequel.
PS: the next game of the Remake will probably follow a different path, I don't know if the changes will be small or big, but it will be different for sure. So, yes, this is not a "retold version" of the original, it could very well be a completely new version of the same game with different outcomes and even a different ending.
PSS: Maybe this time we won't have a bastard flying down with a giant mtf sword to destroy our hopes and make us cry for a week. If you know what I'm talking about.

I think we will have the option of a choice between saving zack or aerith or maybe using zack to try and save aerith but ultimately our choice won't matter thus recreating the original scene with a new twist. I think they will still include all the major story beats like this but with some new stuff sprinkled in.

Took me 60 hours on normal playthrough EVERYONE of you youtubers must blow through it. i even got bahamut. Maxed out to lv 50 etc etc also RARELY ever sprinted just jogged without hitting sprint button.

Also I've never played any of the Final Fantasy game so if it was a play off between Final Fantasy VII remake and doom eternal which game should I get because I played the original doom 2016 and I'm kind of hyped for the new doom eternal and I want to get it but this remake looks good so which should I get from a unbiased to either game point of view.

You should play the OG first or you'll get the wrong idea about it, especially with this ending. Many OG fans are confused about where this is going so newcomers will have no fucking idea what's going on by the end. Rest of the game is great though, except those ghosts.
As a newcomer i have no idea what was that ending all about, still have no clue after watching this video bcause it states obvious things like "the remake is based on the original" really? Wow. But damn do i feel jealous of those who played the original and now are able to enjoy thw remake? This game is increadible, amazing soundtrack, amazing combat, i allways disliked the anime way the characters act in ff, but i think i got used to it, now i really like these characters, they are so special. I look forward to the sequel. One of the best games i played this gen
I have a ps4 pro and I was hesitant to buy this game. However i think this is the game I will enjoy while i am waiting for cyperpunk. The only problem is I wish it will be on PC because I just built a high end pc and I think this game will look amazing on it

I never played the original and didn't get anything. Why is Cloud having flashbacks of Sephiroth? What is his motivation? *spoilers* who was the woman/monster in the giant lab? What is going on? Why does nobody dies??! What does the ending means? Who is Sephiroth? How did he materialize in the real world? What are the phantoms? What are the ancients?

If you didn't play the original, you'll miss out on all the goosebumps. Believe me. You'll never question the ending of remake if you didnt play the original.
Here is a definition of REBOOT that people always complain about the REMAKE title: "a reboot is A BIT similar to a remake, but it's WAY more than just that". So we can assume that the title for REMAKE kinda sound legit.
I wasn't fond of jrpg games because of the too much non voiced dialogue and the turn based combat that felt tiring on many other games so I regret avoiding the original FFVII because its story was worth playing.

Love the game but feels like the AI (in combat) was rushed out the door. I tend to micro manage so it's not a problem but left to their own devices (On Normal and Hard) you are screwed.
Tha combat looks so bad. I see so many boss sponges that require you to fight them for over 15 mins and the fact the some just stand there unflinching to your hits just look annoying. They cover it up with all these exaggerated light show tricks but in the end you're not doing much it seems like lol.
That's what you need to do in the first place, you need to switch characters just like the OG FF7 and other JRPG's. This is not just a hack and slash game, it's also a tactical game.
If your planning on just playing cloud throughout all your fights, then your totally missing out the purpose

They are not destroying it, Shinra the company is using Mako as fuel to power the city, and Avalanche is sabotaging Shinra's reactors to keep them from using up all the planet's Mako.

Well,this remake is completely different,they changed a lot of things when it comes to the story,so if you want to play the original ff7 then go ahead and play it,it's quite bad graphically but it's great story and gameplay wise

I agree with you. I haven’t played the original and the story of FF remake is really confusing. All visions, characters, sephiroth, zack. Almost everything from the story doesn’t make sense for new players. The combat is not fluid enough as dodging doesn’t work and I can’t DPS with aerith. When I change to her, all enemies and their mothers will attack her. Basically the combat is: hit once, wait for the bar to fill up and them use an special attack and pray for monsters doesn’t attack you during the cast time. I’m really, really sad after beating it. I wanted to love the game and I probably never play the remake again.

JJ Kaname Yeah this game covers only a section of the full FF7 story. There will probably be 2 more games in the future. Still it’s a immensely fun game with a engaging story.

If you want a basic reskin, low quality remaster that's low effort and all on 'one disc' then go play the PC port with HD skin mods. FF7R is a complete and painstaking reimagining of beloved characters and the city of Midgar. The game has heart. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the return on investment for this project is low if not negative
If you consider yourself a fan of FF7, stop watching any more videos or reviews etc and go pick up the game. It's fking epic

1. That's a really bad comparison. Marvel movies were made years apart from each other and weren't even being developed while the previous ones were airing so how would it be possible for all of them to be one movie? Whereas FF7 has a complete story which concluded 23 years ago so they should know exactly what to develop in advance. If they still don't know how the rest of the game will play out by now (after years of development) then it will probably turn out shit. Plus the only reason why PS1 games were made using 3 discs in the first place was because of disc space which is no longer a problem in this day and age since we have games like persona 5 being over 100 hours long and fitting perfectly fine on one disc. The only reason FF7 remake is split into episodes is because of money and nothing else lol.

Well then it's not a remake then is it? It's a reboot. All the new characters in midgar are fine because it's just updating and expanding on what's there which is what a remake does. But at the end of the game where they retcon the original story and add new story elements that just ruin the original's legacy, that isn't what a remake does. Square even previously said that they would be faithful to the OG story but I guess they lied so more people would buy the game lol
3. I can consider myself a fan of FF7 without wasting $60 on an incomplete game thank you very much. I can easily just watch the cutscenes online and wait for the bundle to come out and buy at a cheaper price.

1. The Marvel movies are based on the comics which have very clear and well known storylines dating back as early as the 1970s. 'The Avengers' movie was the first movie which covered only part of the overarching storyline. Your whining is similar to a comic fan saying "WTF 'The Avengers' movie only tells the first part of the entire Avengers original storyline? WTF Why isn't it called 'The Avengers Movie Part 1??? OMG I am gonna boycott and miss out!!!!'
How can you say that the game is just a money grab and nothing else when you can clearly see and everyone agrees the love and effort the devs have put into this game. If you honestly cannot see it, then actually don't get the game, you don't deserve to experience it
2. Since you seem to be adamant not playing the game and watching instead, here's a spoiler for you. Psst... FF7R is technically a sequel to the original FF7 (*GASP*). How do I know it's a sequel? Because there are events shown from the original, Crisis Core, and even Advent Children?! But hey Tars, why does it have the words 'remake' then??
Here's a quote from Nomura when the game was announced in 2015 talking about why the word 'remake' was used:

3. Don't watch any more. How would you feel if someone just 'watched' the original FF7 and wasn't able to experience the gameplay, the agency, the exploration, the combat etc themselves?!
Look, ultimately, I'm not trying to say the game is perfect or flawless or it's going to meet all your expectations and hopes. But I am genuinely trying to convey to you this is definitely not just a cash grab. But a fantastic video game in its own right, full of great content which I adored. Dude I would have loved if this game was more than just being set in Midgar (note my careful wording here...). But we've been waiting for this for at least 5 years?! Why deprive yourself of exploring a fully realised Midgar and our beloved characters!!!
If you ultimately choose to save your hard earned $ and skip picking this up, that's totally up to you. But if you just watch the game, i think you will really miss out. Like the pretty intense combat, finding and leveling your materia, and just the ability to explore Midgar how you want...

This remake should've explain itself to the newcomers, instead they making the plot more confusing even for the old players by adding *SPOILER* the multiverse, alternate timeline, time travel bs towards the ending.

never cared for it, never will, i played and finished FF12, and derge of cerberus FF7 weren't worth it.
i played FF6 and a number of other games as well. i used to love FF games but i grew up over them.

I've played 6 to 10, wasn't interested in 12, never bothered to play Cerberus, loathed 13 and 15 (those two made me hate Final Fantasy) but I've really enjoyed this remake

12 is not really a FF per say it's just a normal RPG that's all, still it's finish-able!
cerberus us just a 3rd person shooter with some RPG elements. nothing too special really. i disown the existence of FF 13 and 15 both, and not a fan of 14. as for any other game from FF 1 to 5 , 8, 9, and whatever else, i really don't care
