- Railway shunting & switching a short line railroad scrap metal dealer. Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET switching tracks and spotting cars at Cohen Recycling. A busy railroad crossing with gates and lights is right at the main switch. Railroad radio is included. Classic locomotives pull the train of covered hopper cars and gondola cars up to the customer in Macon, Ohio. An MP15DC and a B36-7 are working the branch line on this day. The entire switching process is shown from an excellent vantage point. I really love how this video came out! 4 empties were set off and 3 loads of scrap metal were picked up. Then the train is seen continuing on to drop off the covered hopper cars at Winchester Ag in Winchester, Ohio at the grain elevator. I have tons of videos of the grain spur being worked so just check my playlists for Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. On the day that I filmed this there was a lot of traffic at the crossing. You can hear a couple of non railfans beep their horns. Lol. Listen to the awesome sounds of the locomotives working and listen to the sounds of the freight cars as they are being shunted about. Where else can you see a locomotive combination like this? I also included captions in the video to explain what they are doing. The train arrived with 2 crew members and a third member showed up in a pickup truck to help with the switching process. This speeded up the action to keep the crossing time fouled to a minimum. The old Norfolk & Western Railway signals in the background are bagged to show that they are no longer in use. The pole line with the glass insulators is abandoned also but it makes a great photo prop. I got lucky on this day because it was a rare sunny day in the winter in Ohio. Filmed March 4, 2021. Thanks for watching!

Awesome catch ! If I was at the crossing I would shut off the engine and enjoy the show.
You and me both!
@@JawTooth Can't beat switching
Ditto, occasionally have wait for 200+ coal train going southbound towards Chattanooga at 7:30 AM. Instead of getting upset, you just enjoy the show.
i remember the days of multi-mile coal trains, (some 400 cars or more) and it was a pure pleasure to sit in traffic an watch them. i specifically remember the N&W one in Lorain Ohio that had OVER 500 LOADED COAL CARS and 8 engines! they had to split the load onto 4 different tracks. took almost an hour to clear the grade crossing as they had to break the train while moving using the dpu's to push away from the rest of the train in sections. this happened back in the early 1980's.
@@michaelking3327 As a really small kid, we would see 5 - 6 mile long trains with five locomotives at the head of the train, three in the middle, and four on the rear of Southern Pacific trains. They were head across the desert from a mountain ridge as they were climbing towards the continental divide.
Cincinnati Eastern Pissed a lot of people of at that Crossing. Great Video Mr Tooth. Lol
@@juangarcia-co5ve juan, you are partially right - they needed to get the job done. But they could have made a lot of people happy -not pissed off - IF they had cleared the crossing area at least once, Twenty minutes - too long - BAD RR PR
I wonder if anyone stuck at that crossing lost their job because they were late to work. Behavior of this sort is unacceptable. The railroaders could have cleared the crossing for a minute without failing to get their jobs done. No wonder the public has a negative opinion of railroads. Personally, I love trains, but there has to be give and take. 20 minutes blocking a road is not necessary, and is probably not legal, either.
@@MusicByWinston just do a u turn and go around
Cool video. The conductor/beatleman should have paid more attention to traffic at the crossing.
Yeah, they really should have pulled up far enough to clear the traffic, Seemed like a bit of a dick move.
Switching railroads, the back bone of america. Awesome video.
If I lived in that house by the tracks, I would screen in that porch and watch the trains go by.
Was thinking the same thing brother! I've lived that close to RR's before. People think it would be a nightmare, but after the 1st few months, you don't even hear it at night when you're sleeping. But sitting out on the porch watching the action would be heaven!
Me too! I have lived next to the tracks in several homes and always loved the surprise of a train
That house made me recollect on my uncle's house and place outside of Newkirk, OK. 50-60 yrs ago
Love it when you have your radio on loud enough so we can hear it. Being retired RR it helps a lot. Thanks
It helps a lot of us 'Rail Fans' to understand the byplay and communications that go on between the guy on the ground and engineer.
Have you ever used scanner app, all kinds of rail action right thru your phone, sometimes i share it on my twitter page Railroader Archives🚂👍🏻
@@robertf3479 stop it
@@afterburnerjoslyn6459 twitayrr is trash
I'd rather he piped it into the video directly, either on one channel or both because that rail squeal is painful when trying to listen to their directions. Maybe even record it to a small digital recorder and super-impose it over the train movement audio?
You would think the crew would have taken a moment to clear the crossing! They were on the crossing from approximately 00:48 to 23:20.
😳
Not very considerate.
Technically if the movement stops for more the five minutes that's when they have to clear the crossing. Where the movement is less than five minutes they don't have to. On the Boston and Maine RR we cleared a crossing out of respect for the motorous. Not only that, it was more time on the clock for us anyways and to keep the public happy.
That’s what I was thinking too. I would have cleared the crossing for about a minute just to let some of the traffic go.
Nobody is ever in a hurry to get anything done in railroading either. It's possible to work fast AND safe. Ask airline ground crews and air traffic controllers.
Really enjoyed the switching operation Jaw Tooth. Thanks!!!
As a courtesy the crew should have cleared the crossing after pulling the loads. While not an excuse this is why people run gates. Hard to believe at one time those cars were factory fresh
Now they're like warriors in an operating demo derby. With virtually no utility using steel cars the supply chain is left with aluminum cars with the curved bellys. Can they handle the rigors? Best oldies nearing the 50 year mark are former Detroit Edison now AMGX semi permanently coupled sets. Thanks JT for showing how those long freights have humble beginnings
Thanks for taking the time to film the entire switching process. Interesting to see all the moves required.
As a retired engineer, I can't understand why they don't clear the crossing circuit so traffic can pass, than continue their switching.
@xheralt That crossing circuit might be a ways which eats up a lot of time,,besides these people need to take break and chill from the hectic pace of life,,it will do them good!
@Dan C. Are the crossing arms up when the train is just short of the road? No..then would that be a full de-activation?
The operators I agree are selfish.
@xheralt Sorry - you are wrong about that
Was the engineer here doing all the braking with the independent? Up to 20:18, the only air I've heard it's when he pulled the gladhand apart.
Near the end, when he backed up to get the conductor, the lead loco's wheels were squeeling (they didn't squeel their first time on this piece of track,) and the lead wheels didn't seem to be turning (tho the trail loco wheels were.) Would the engineer have let the whole consist drag the lead loco (with independent applied) until it stopped, rather than apply automatic?
That doesn't sound right.... I gotta be missing something. Just wondering your take..
Great way to start a Sunday, eating breakfast, having coffee and enjoying Jawtooth!
Start the video, Son!👍👍
Only one jaw tooth. Great job as always..
Pretty Nice.I can't help but feel a bit bad for the trucks and cars that had to wait for a long time.
its suck i had to deal with that before one point i have to wait an hour
I'm guessing the locals understand that a "short line" can be closed down at "short notice" and that some local outfits depend on it.
at john gilmer i wasnt a local im trucker got done delivery at one location and had to go pick another load within til train block my route.
Love watching railroads switch industries. Thank you jawtooth
Love switching operations.
Great video, hope those at the crossing packed their lunch.
Jaw Tooth strikes again! What a marvelous video. There is nothing more interesting than the day-to-day workings of a short line. It was fascinating seeing how they serviced Cohen Recycling. Personally, I think they could have done ie in an easier and more time-saving manner, but what do I know. The highlight of the video was Jaw Tooth’s commentary, almost like a play-by-play. It kept us in the loop by letting us know what happening when it was happening. Yet another reason why JT is heads and tails over other railfan channels who are simply content to show us big freight trains speeding by. The photography is terrific, not only sharp and well-positioned, but always on the move to give us an ultimate look at the train. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
Mr J Tooth also employs the young boy who operates the camera for him. Not only is he providing railfans a superior RUclips experience, but he's also serving like an adoptive father for the poor young man. You gotta appreciate Mr Tooth's heart every time he tells the boy to roll the video.
Since the switch was so near the roadway, wouldn't it have been good public relations to allow traffic to move after each move that almost cleared the crossing? (obviously not a railroader.)
Awesome!!! Love the industrial switching sequences you publish!! Start the video, son!!!
Great video!🇺🇸
Excellent video I enjoyed watching Cohen’s being switched, shortlines are the best.👍😀😀😀😀😀😀🚂🇬🇧
Excellent short line work! One thing would be worth the money here - a track greaser :) You don't get to see this work often - much appreciated!
I knew a bunch of "greasers" in highschool😅
Nice man
I love the old battered workhorses on the short lines. The horse in the beginning was nice as well - but I'll bet he doesn't work nearly as hard 😉
As a UK railroad modeller with an interest in US practice, this is the first time I was aware that another crew member (conductor also presumably?) would turn up in a specific situation such as this one. Those drivers held at the crossing probably didn’t realise the company had ‘gone the extra mile’ on this occasion. Thanks for the educational video. 👍
YEAY, Our favorite Switcher
I love trains. I don't work on them. I know train crews have a timeline to follow, but 3 extra minutes to clear traffic goes along way with P.R.
JawTooth you are the best!
Very interesting, nice shooting, like I was standing there!
I love watching people work on the railroad,,,,it's relaxing! lol!
Me too!
Great video capture JT ! I liked how the crossing gate timed out, started to rise, then came right back down as consist slowly moved into siding. The gate was saying "are you in or out"! This video made my Sunday morning. Thanks.
Let's your friends know about Jaw Tooth he has a big heart and tries to do the best in providing high quality videos.....I have been watching him for at k east 2 yeara....Top notch entertainment. .....
Another Great Train Video By JawTooth! I Love It!!!
Nice!
Excellent Coverage. 🍃🍃🇮🇳
Wow! That is rail action!! Thank you very much Mr. Jaw Tooth! Greetings from Chile! 🇨🇱
Thank you for posting more vintage iron🚂🚃🇨🇦
More to come!
Wow, I never thought about all of the maneuvers it takes to switch out cars. I am sure the Truck driver was annoyed! Strat the video son!
Great video JT. Thanks for getting all this live action on video, explaining what's happening, the ariel shots, and still shots. We also like seeing your animals too. We think you are an awesome guy.
In Berlin it is windi too, but the spring time it is coming. Tomorrow we become 17 grad celsius. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
Love all the weathered covered hoppers👍👍
Same here
Wow! That's a screecher! Good thing its daytime, cause I don't think people get much sleep!! Love that horse! Interesting to see a train working like this. Great detail! Ten thumbs up jaw tooth!! Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Have a great day Debra!
👍 Switching at its finest, nap time for the non-railfans sitting on the street at the gates. Great vid !!
That air brake was so satisfying
Nice video, Mr Jaw Tooth.
Another good one JT keep them coming thanks
I don't think much of that ground man because he could have cleared the crossing several times. We always cleared crossings when we could
Great short line action! Thanks for sharing Jawtooth!
Nice clip. Some funky engines too.
Many thanks!
they had a pretty good size train there and made a quick swap out. nice work and great live action JT
Thanks 👍
That crew really knows how to piss people off trying to go thru crossing.
Why do train crews do that? Because they can. (But that doesn't make it right.)
A lot of pissed people at that crossing.
The sound of the train squealing on tracks was pristine 🔊.. .. The radio calls topped it 🤙🏼👍🏼
Great switching video. JT With Another Great Video. Keep them coming!! Appreciate the time you take to get the Great Shots in your videos!!
Nice video.
No one takes the time to give a video description like Jaw Tooth 👍👍👍
gotta love that dash 7
Another cool scenic train video Jaw Tooth.! Cool how you added the horses in there, that makes your videos different but very interesting!
That was cool.
Nice midwest scenery.
Great job as always !!!!
I like thoses videos when that do a lot of switching
I like the trains. good job.
Great video. Love switching operations
Love these switching videos. Great stuff
Wonderfully times and caught. Although I agree that they could have spent less time blocking the crossing, it was still a good show. And I've become accustomed to hearing "But wait - there's MORE".
Wow that train was longer than I thought. I liked hearing the scanner, Good job JT.
Awesome video brother.. Thanks for adding captions for play by play of the switching..much appreciated
No problem 👍
That little switcher needs a good bath don't it Son ... Saw little Chessie Systems , she's awesome ... Thanx for sharing ...
Excellent stuff, Mr. Tooth!
Thanks Jaw Tooth, sharp Movie as always.
Awesome vids jaw tooth love it that old classic loco still going
Love your videos JT.Great for the rail modeler for projects.operations and even weathering of rolling stock.
Super video! Good job! Thumbs Up
Greetings from Romania
Andrew
I really enjoyed this video. It brought back a lot of memories. This was my favorite type of railroading. It takes a light hand on the brake and throttle, a good ground team, and respect for the equipment to achieve those most-desired “kiss” couplings. These guys do good work. Kudos!
Anything switching is always cool
I agree!
@@JawTooth All those shortline railroads you film have such interesting locomotives and great sounding horns. Keep making such great videos.
Cool, gave me some ideas for the next layout, great vid, thanx Jaw Tooth
Awesome! Traffic had to wait a long time for that one. At the very end the gates seemed to tease drivers.
What I love about Jaw Tooth's videos: I always learn a little something more about the railroad operations and the employees' working day. This develops my understanding of their perspective during their day....GAHHHD! these curves definetly need a grease point just before the turnout!!
Doing a Great Job JT ! Enjoy watching your videos. Have loved trains all my life,
starting with Lionel as a kid. Grew up near a crossing so fun to watch. Most of
us realize that the ' Trains " move the country. Look forward to more videos...
super cool power combo
Awesome J.T. 1 Love those in & out switches. Used to watch them for hours while we still had rails in my city. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video JT thanks for posting. Haircut outstanding, I have a lot less hair but I get same one, #2 guide lasts almost 2 months.
Amazing video!
HI we love the landscape great video very cute dog very nice horse .
Great switching action shown in real time, complete with audible crew radio instructions. More please
Another great production from Jaw Tooth! Thank you sir!
Man, every time you shoot something involving Cohen Industries, it takes me back JT. I grew up in Middletown (60's & 70's) about a block from where it all started. Back then, all they had were the 2 small yards between Grand & Central Avenue's as Cohen Brothers. Then they opened a yard out on Yankee Rd. I enlisted in 1980 and moved away for 36 years before moving back to the area, and WOW have they grown. Good to see a small business grow and become as successful as they have.
The new adventure before the holy week,my favorite railfanning adventure is in an industrial park...
So good....
💛💛💛💛👍👍👍🎀🚂🚂🚂😁😁🤩🤩😍😍😄🤪🎃🎃🎃😬😬😁😁😁
Great live switching action - - and Chessie and a horse too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this one. THIS is where the meat of railroading really is. I am not a fan of a 50 plus miles per hour freight screaming by for ANY amount of time. Your narration makes it super real and puts ME right there!! (and I do NOT have to drive, search, park, put up with the wind, people, or other discomforts) Your comments and screen notes flesh out the story MUCH more than just wheels squealing. And I MUST comment on your editing. This is where it REALLY shines. It takes a LOT of work to take a bunch of clips and make them into a flick this complete and contiguous!! Great videos are MADE in editing. I also enjoy the radio comm in there too. Wish it were better audio from that but ya got what ya got!! Hope you understand I really enjoyed this one. Even more than your usual great videos. Thanks JT, I appreciate all your work here.
Looks Like 👍 the Fence around the Horse has one (1) horizontal board left before he escapes. 🙄
Hi Jaw, I love your videos. This is one of the highlights among them. Greatungs from Germany and stay healthy. Joachim
Thank you JT👍👍🤠🤠
My pleasure!!
Brother, I got to see the family horse, nice! The train video, as usual, was superb!
Love the end of your videos 👍😊💯
Glad you like them! Most people don't know I do them
Top video, again! 😉👍🇳🇴
Cracking footage ! great stuff !👍👍
Many thanks!
Excellent video Brian.
Thanks 👍
Another great interesting video. It is nice to see railroads/railways servicing smaller customers.
It sure is!
Pretty cool! Thank you!
That really was cool.
