How Alone in the Dark tries to scare

When I played Alone in the Dark 2024, I kept thinking: what was good about the first game, since are constantly trying to resurrect the series? Did the Alone in the Dark 1992 invent the survival horror genre? What would Resident Evil and Silent Hill have been like if not for Alone in the Dark? And in general: can there be anything surprising about a horror game that is already over 30 years old? To answer these questions, I had to play through first Alone in the Dark, and it was hard.
