Thanks for the great video, helped me decide! One small point - when installing the O ring it's recommended to use a silicone lubricant to keep it in shape for longer.
Been using fluval 305 on my 75gal for the last 7yrs with no issues, recently started to make noise ,during cleaning it I broke the ceramic shaft, I decided to upgrade to the 407 but it doesn't fit under my stand & I have no room on the sides either, since my 305 has been so faithful I bought the repair kit instead for $45 and running like new even water flow has increased & no more noise, I used all the basket media from the 407, I'll be upgrading to a taller stand in few months and will install the 407 then . Love Fluval
I just replaced my AC with the Fluval 107 and I have to say I'm impressed with it so far. It's dead silent which is a big win for my tank seeing as it's display tank and my Axolotl seems happy.
About 8 months ago your videos inspired me to go back into the hobby and Im glad I did it. My wife will love when I win this, she’s always saying my old marineland makes to much noise lol
I'm not going to win. That's not the point. I wanted to thank you for giving home for cats I saw in your video. I have three ex-stray cats and it is such a pleasure to see that someone else doing the same thing. I enjoy your channel too. Good luck everybody!
I have 2 aquaclear 20 and a whisper 10 HOB filters on my jungle val, electric blue acara, 55 gal. I would love to FINALLY get rid of them and be able to have my first ever canister filter. We Love you guys, my daughter and I have learned so much. Keep it up!
You do know you need 1 kilo of media to every 100L of water to see the best results for the beneficial bacteria to see a full Cycle. Not telling you how to su k eggs or anything. Hope this helps the rest of you to.
That does look amazing. Looks like they've been paying attention to other brands like Oase and made suitable improvements. Can always add an in line heater rather that have to have it in the filter itself.
I think product reviews are one of my favorite kinds of videos. Really enjoying following along with the fish room build. I have been considering a canister for some time to go on my 65 gallon cichlid tank but my bank account says I have to stick with hobs for now which is okay. Thanks for the great content.
The gasket is separate because it's oiled; it's contained in its own bag. If they left it installed, it would dry up. Great video - bought one based on this.
I can definitely agree to being a fluval “fan boy” they just have amazing high quality products ( kinda like your videos (high quality and amazing)) I look forward to seeing you Thursday for the giveaway announcement.
Man im just getting back ino the hobby after about 10 years without a tank. Man the technology and simplicity of most things had come a long way this looks so much better of a system then my old clunky wet dry setup
Fluval is great! Thanks for all you have helped me with on my new hobby... 55gal cichlid 30gal community, 10gal frog n 20gal quarantine.... i have a new 55 gal. In saving up for a new canister
I purchased a 307 earlier this year, perhaps a little overkill for my 40 gallon breeder tank, but I LOVE IT, i don't think I could ever go back to HOT filters ever again after switching to a Fluval Canister, does everything they promise, and very customizable with the media trays.. I would highly recommend to anyone on the fence about them.
oh my yes yes yes please count me in!!! 55 gal low to ground needs filter so i can get it up and running! yes please show clean up of the filters when you do them.
Hahaha.... I've had a Fluval 304 for more than 10 years in my 50g. It works flawlessly, so I've no need to replace it. BIG fan of the product but no need for another. Best of luck to the happy (I'm sure) winner.
My Fluval 406 just died 2 weeks ago, so I am currently running as backup a MARINELAND MAGNUM and a Ziss Bubbler on my 90 gallon aquarium. I like the way the baskets remove from the 407 as shown in your demo! Thank you John & Lisa for being such a great source of information.
awesome channel love all the help you and your wife give. i have had tanks for more then 10 years and i still learn news things form the two of you. you two are hero's in my book making a better place for fish to live
I like it. If all else fails "read the instructions", said like a real man.😉 It may have improved with the 07 range but I found the 206 I have a bit noisy at first, apparently air gets stuck everywhere, but after about 4 weeks its runs almost silently.Just thought I'd mention it. I think Fluval got it right with these filters.
Hey John & Lisa; Long Long time listener and sometimes watcher. You have no idea how your live streams have kept my 16 hour drives from Florida to Pa or Md much more manageable. I definitely missed them while you were regrouping and focussing on you!!!! So glad your back and again last Thursday stream made the Friday drive so much less boring:) Huge fan of Fluval in all 13 of my tanks which is growing to 15 next month... Yep MTS is here in our house FO SHO!!!!! Thank-You again for all you do and so gald your dream fish room is coming alive!!
Hi John! Thanks for the video! I am new to the hobby and have only used HOB filters. I am very impressed with how easy the Fluval is to assemble! I have a 125 gal and would love to try out a canister filter! Fingers and toes crossed!
I love my fluval 306 on my 125ltr .. now setting up a 180ltr and I deff don't want anything but a fluval on it too fingers crossed.. Nice vid keep up the good work
Thanks for sharing the unboxing. I have a 206 and im glad to see they added a handle system for the trays. Having to pull the trays out one by one is the only real gripe I’ve had with it.
I have the Fluval FX4... I love how easy it is to do water changes using the FX4. The Fluval 407 look like another exceptional product.. I totally agree Fluval is an awesome product....
I have been using a 704 sunsun canister filter for a couple of years. It kept the water in my 55 gal heavy planted tank crystal clear. It started leaking just before I left for vacation, so I went to the local pet store and bought the one he is setting up. I have added more polishing pads and other media. After three weeks the water still is not clear! I am going to order a new o-ring seal for the sunsun and the heck with this fluval!
Thank you for this video! I’m finally getting my first larger tank- 40 gallon- and wanted to upgrade my filtering system. This makes me feel much better about this new chapter!
Literally just started watching you a month ago, bought my 55gal and just put in 5 yellow labs and have plans to get 5 electric blues next week. Running a Marineland hang on the back and was thinking of getting a fluval eventually when I can afford it. Would be great to win one. Thanks for all your cichlid information. I’m learning everything from you and aquarium co op
Hey love you channel! You guys have helped me so very much maintaining and caring for the fish I inherited from my father-in-law after he passed this last Easter. I am in love with the hobby and have started setting up my second 55 gallon tank. Keep up the great work.
Love Fluval canisters! I have an older 206 on my 55 South American tank but need an upgrade. Love the black intake tube. Looks like they made some nice upgrades to the filters. Cute cats!
Growing up my dad always had fishes but it wasn't until a few weeks ago. I started my own "collection" Currently have a 10gallon with a Betta but I will go bigger. Recently purchased a 35-40gal acrylic cylinder tank (if that makes any sense). Currently refurbishing in order to get rid of all of the scratches and making sure it's perfect.
I just bought a 150 gallon tank yesterday and started researching canister filters, and this morning I got the notification about this video. Very ironic but this filter seems to be really nice!
Put hoses in tank at one end and out put at the other. This works best. I am using the 207 on my twenty nine gallon planted tank. I will also be using peat to lower the ph and make the water soft on my next water change. this is a great benefit for tetras and plants as well as other species.
I have always been scared to use a canister filter! I have watched so many videos on different types and it just confuses me to no end! This video has changed my mind! You made me understand how they work, very easy!!! That 407 series makes it to where people like me can't mess up!!! Great job KG Tropicals and Fluval!!! I think it's time to take the plunge and get rid of my 2 hang on backs on my 55g!!! ❤🐟🐠🐡
I was lucky enough to get a 407 for Christmas and man major upgrade from my old 305. Easily the most user-friendly filter for general maintenance and just general operation I've ever had.
Been using Fluval Canister Filter 305 since 2010. I'm using it now on my 140G. I know I know it doesn't make any sense right now. There are 12 visible helmet snails, four live plants and Ptooey, my betta lol. Severely understocked. I just slowly introduce things to the tank. No need to rush. That 305 doesn't make any weird sound or whatever sound at all even after all these years of continuous running except for when it expels the trapped air. It's just worth the money. I will keep on using Fluval anyday anytime. Good luck to the winners.
Would love one. My only complaint about the 6 series was AquaStop valve assembly durability. From other videos it has sounded like they have addressed this issue in this latest version. Have a 306 that I have had going strong for 5 years now.
The distance your canister filter is under the tank has little effect on head pressure in a closed loop system. In most applications it’s only lifting the water 2 inches or less, which is the distance from the water line over the edge of the tank. Only if you were using the the canister to return water from a sump or other open body of water would the height matter. Now hose length, pipe diameter, inline equipment and bends in the pipes or tubes do effect head pressure and need to be considered. If you drill the canister into the tank instead of going over the rim you can actually add a little positive head to the system. More manufacturers need to make this clearer on their packaging. Sorry for the rant just a pet peeve of mine 😘
Been watching your channel for a month now. Even as a bit of experienced hobbyist, I am still learning and wanting to know more. I look forward to seeing more.
Nicely done as always, Bonus likes for the Kitty's! Kiddo's to Fluval to listening to their customers and updating and continuing to innovate some of the best products in the industry.
John I love this presentation of the new Fluval filter. I have also watch your other Fluval videos. Thank you very much for all of your great content. Thank you, Domingo
Hey John, Been a fan of your channel before you left RUclips for awhile and I actually got into African cichlids because of you and got mostly all of my information from your channel when I first started.
In my fx6 I have pond foam and scrubbies and my flow was definitely decreases by 50% or more. I also think the manufacturer over estimates their filters I say the fx6 can do maximum 150gal medium stocked.
We had been running a Fluval u3 on our musk turtles tank (along with frequent heavy water changes) and just finally upgraded to the 307 from a black Friday deal and I loooooove it. Very easy for a first Time canister installer like me
Just watched this video and got some tips for mine aquarium. I have the 307 for my 60 gallon tank. I took out the carbon and put it a bag of Fluval Peat Granules and extra ceramic beads (the same ones you show here).
I live in the UK so would have to get up around 3am to catch your live stream lol so will wish everyone the best of luck :-) and thank you very much John and Lisa for your videos, its helped me out so much, keep doing what you do :-)
Kitties! I have an FX-4 on my 120 gallon Oscar tank. I have problems servicing it, due to it's weight and the arthritis in my hands. I did buy the 107 because of the smaller size. I'm going to add it to my goldfish tank's filtration. Thanks for the review.
Nice video John showing the 407 features. The Fluval 407 filter would be nice to win for my 75 gallon aquarium, my biggest tank set-up project that is 1.5 yrs in the making. The severums cichlids are outgrowing the 29 gal fast and am a strong believer that a canister is a good filter for messy cichlids. Cory of Aquarium Coop would probably say he is "not entirely convinced" but oh well, that filter will be my Ferrari lol.
Great video John, I was going to buy one of these filters but because I'm planning on upgrading my tank I went with the fx6. Glad I saw this video it gives me more knowledge about this filter.
Just got back into aquariums. I have a 29 gallon lightly stocked community tank and plants. Couldn't keep my water crystal clear with an Aquaclear 50 and a sponge filter. Switched to the 207 and my tank has been crystal every since. Running it with Seachem matrix and Fluval spray bar kit. It's an office tank and everyone noticed the clarity difference. The canister is a lot smaller in person, and fits perfectly inside a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. Oh and did i mention it's QUIET!
Awesome program John. Just subscribed and joined, not because of the contest, but because your material, your comments and helpful suggestions are super. Sending you Tons of Aloha from Hawaii !!!
Love this Program its like your in our house giving this Novice all the information needed to setup tank I have Fluval 206 for my small 165Ltr tank all way from Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond
I just picked up a used 206 for $60. So far it's keeping my 32g tank super clear except for the yellow tint since I didn't use any carbon medias. I actually like the yellow tint to the water though.
I use on of these on my reef tank filled with seachem de nitrate and a ehiem uv.. the filter is handy as you can reduce the water flow so managed to turn it right down
Just bought the our first Canister Filters the smallest one for our Not-for-Profit Charity, and was difficult to get started initially due to me not having experience with Canisters Filters, so had to go back to the Aquarium shop and get shown hahaha.
Totally agree on the Fluval brand. It may be it bit more expensive than the competition but it is high end equipment. A canister would be awesome on my 30 gallon.
John, you are very generous with these fluval give aways. You also do a great job explaining the filter. I have been with you for years. I have ordered products from you like food, plush toys and chemicals. I hope I win 1 of those filters. I will be watching Thursday.
Thanks for the great video, helped me decide! One small point - when installing the O ring it's recommended to use a silicone lubricant to keep it in shape for longer.

I finally faced my fear of canister filters and bought a 407 for my 75 gallon. Things are looking pretty good so far and it's super quiet!!👍🏽
You do know you need 1 kilo of media to every 100L of water to see the best results for the beneficial bacteria to see a full Cycle. Not telling you how to su k eggs or anything. Hope this helps the rest of you to.
Ashley New agree. Specially after watching a lot of info from pondguru
I have a fluval 405 for my 75 gal and works amazing.
@@spaceair1 they are one of the loudest things I've heard in my life when air runs through them but their completely silent when running normally.
I got an fx6 on my 120 and added a 307 with the new uv clarifier. Works great and I can’t hear neither of them running
Ever time I watch you guys , I learn something ...Love the little mascott running around
That does look amazing. Looks like they've been paying attention to other brands like Oase and made suitable improvements.
Can always add an in line heater rather that have to have it in the filter itself.
Perhaps the rubber O-ring is shipped in the envelope so that the silicone lubricant won't dry out while it's being shipped/waiting to be sold.
I think product reviews are one of my favorite kinds of videos. Really enjoying following along with the fish room build. Beautiful kitty's

Finally order my first fuval canister filter 407. I can't wait 🙈
So what your experience after 7months?
My Fluval 406 just died 2 weeks ago, so I am currently running as backup a MARINELAND MAGNUM and a Ziss Bubbler on my 90 gallon aquarium. I like the way the baskets remove from the 407 as shown in your demo! Thank you John & Lisa for being such a great source of information.
I’m really curious about the 407: I like the way all trays come out at once.
i know it's kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released movies online?
@Gunner Jeremiah i use Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
awesome channel love all the help you and your wife give. i have had tanks for more then 10 years and i still learn news things form the two of you. you two are hero's in my book making a better place for fish to live
I have a Western Painted turtle with a hang-on-back filter on his tank, I'd love to win a canister filter for him 😩
U can get one for less 50 bucks
I have one of these on my 50 and love it. I am ready to upgrade the rest. Super easy & efficient canister filter.
coolest i just bought a fluval 407 :D "D anyone else had just bought a new filter?
Yup but mine is Eheim 😜
@@VJ_Nic eheim is good as well, thats my previous ext filter lasted for about 7 years
I have a 406 on my goldfish tank, it's awesome and I enjoy the ability to adjust the flow rate and direction.
i hope to win the fluval so i can set up a tank for my brother in a wheelchair
I like it. If all else fails "read the instructions", said like a real man.😉 It may have improved with the 07 range but I found the 206 I have a bit noisy at first, apparently air gets stuck everywhere, but after about 4 weeks its runs almost silently.Just thought I'd mention it. Best filter systems EVER. So quiet and easy to assemble.
Nice vid keep up the good work
I had 6 fluval canister filters, older style, in my tanks and loved them. Ty for the review.
Thanks John and fluval for the opportunity to have a chance to win!
Hey love you channel! You guys have helped me so very much maintaining and caring for the fish I inherited from my father-in-law after he passed this last Easter. I am in love with the hobby and have started setting up my second 55 gallon tank. Keep up the great work.
Canister fanboy myself. I like all of what I've had. Am setting up a couple tanks this year. Thanks for the videos.
I have the Fluval 407 on my 36 bowfront tank! Its great. Thanks for all your videos!
I just bought a 150 gallon tank yesterday and started researching canister filters, and this morning I got the notification about this video. Very ironic but this filter seems to be really nice!
Love your videos, I just bought the Fluval 307 and I’ll be installing it in my 30 gallon fresh water acrylic tank.
I really appreciate everything you go through! I’m just learning all of this...huge learning curve!!! I really don’t want to kill anybody!!!
I've got 2 fluval 406's and a 106. Excellent filters!! Can't wait to get the 407's! Thanks for the review!! Love your kitty cats!
I have been using the 307 for just about a month and my water is crystal clear and clean. This is my first Fluval.
YES Please, continue to show complete FLUVAL CANISTER FILTER SETUP AND OPERATIONS.
Just found this channel last night. Really enjoying the quality of the content and the advice you all give.
I do like how there is filter pads before going through the tower. Makes cleaning a lot easier!
I love the 406 on my 65 Mbuna tank, very effective and does filter for 60 days before needing cleaning.
Cute kitty. Everything on my tank is fluval. Love it all. Would definately be stoked to try their canister filter.
Would love one. My only complaint about the 6 series was AquaStop valve assembly durability. From other videos it has sounded like they have addressed this issue in this latest version. Have a 306 that I have had going strong for 5 years now.

I'm excited to see your fish room finished! I have enjoyed seeing you guys come back on RUclips.
Nice demonstration John. Love both the simplicity and flexibility of this canister.
You have great information on fish tank and fishes. I just got my fluval 207 for my new 36 bowfront Tank.

By far the best setup/ review video on these canisters. Thank you for the great content!
I've been looking into getting a new canister filter. The maintenance looks fairly easy. This video helped, thanks.
Just upgraded my standard 29 gallon tank with a 207. Love it and so quiet.
We had been running a Fluval u3 on our musk turtles tank (along with frequent heavy water changes) and just finally upgraded to the 307 from a black Friday deal and I loooooove it. Very easy for a first Time canister installer like me

I live in the UK so would have to get up around 3am to catch your live stream lol so will wish everyone the best of luck :-) and thank you very much John and Lisa for your videos, its helped me out so much, keep doing what you do :-)
Very informative and concise. Gonna put one on my acrylic 75 gal that I just ordered
I just got a 307 and yea your right its so easy and best filter i had
Kitties! I have an FX-4 on my 120 gallon Oscar tank. I have problems servicing it, due to it's weight and the arthritis in my hands. I did buy the 107 because of the smaller size. I'm going to add it to my goldfish tank's filtration. Thanks for the review.
Upgraded! 407 for my 65 deep and the 207 for my 29 gallon..... so nice!
Love the black intake tube! My 406 has a white intake that "sticks out like a sore thumb" against my black painted background!
I haven't tried many canister filters yet as I've mostly done sumps or hob filters. From what I'm seeing I do enjoy the look and ease of this fluval.
So happy with my 307! Thanks for all the helpful information.
I just setup my first canister. So far so good. I think I’m hooked.
Great video John, I was going to buy one of these filters but because I'm planning on upgrading my tank I went with the fx6. Glad I saw this video it gives me more knowledge about this filter.
I love these videos you put out! Fluval is awesome! Thank you for all you do for the hobby!
The Fluval seems like a very great Filter for a person doesn't like noisy things. Pretty cool filter I would love to try it out.
