- In this video, I will show you how to add 2 different kinds of Side Pockets to any bag (a slip pocket and a gathered pocket), with options for using quilting cotton or mesh fabric.
You can find mesh fabric here: sewsweetness.c...
Sara, THANK YOU SOOOOO VERY MUCH !! You ARE AMAZING ! I am making a bed caddy for my nephew heading to dorm and I want to add a mesh pocket and one that is also gathered pocket . Now I can modify my creation to add this .
Your are for sure THE Sweetest teacher sewist out in YT ! Love all that you do in these videos . 💕💕
GOD bless you and your family !
I come back to your tutorials so often, Thank You for generously sharing so many useful instructions!
The mesh gathered pocket answered my problem perfectly. Thank you. Terrific video
A very helpful video as I plan to add a water bottle pocket to each side of my day pack. However, I have a question, you methods seem to be for a bag in progress of being sewn, what do you if the bag is new off the shelf?
Same question
Very good tutorial! It makes sense now! I was fighting with my pocket, did not understand where I went wrong! Thank you!
I'm so glad that this video exists! i really need to add pockets to my backpack! thank you💙
Thank you! I was stuck on how to do this!
Thank you so much for this! You were very thorough, didn't skip a step and went through a lot of work for this video, I can tell. Thank you for that! I got my daughter a cute backpack for starting kindergarten, and it doesn't have any cup pockets! Ty!
Such an easy method to use for adding side pockets to a bag pattern. Will try it for a tote bag I'm making. TYSM for sharing this video with us.
so helpful thank you❤
Very clear instructions - I will be adding mesh pockets to my latest backpack I am working on
These are great tips, thank you for sharing!
This video was exactly what I was looking for to make a mesh pocket! Thank you so much!
Wow! Thank you for simplifying adding pockets (and showing a good length for elastic :) ).
Another awesome tutorial. Thank you, Sara!
Brilliant thx
Brilliant, thank you so much
Thanks, that tutorial was really helpful 😻
Wow your bags are amazing!
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot!
Thank you, for this. It is brilliant!
thank you for this video and all your others you are awesome. Do you have a video on how to make that backpack. I have been looking for backpack tutorials and no one has a big one like you just showed or that looks as nice, I would love to see how you make the backpack you just showed on this video. . LOVE your work and tutorials
Great video, thank you!
Thank for this!!!!!!!!
Great demonstration. Can’t wait to add pockets to my project!
thank you Sara!
Thank you!!! 🙏🏽☺️
Really helpful video!! Need a little help? So, i have a 3 inch side panel, 6" tall bottle with 2" diameter. How to measure the side pocket? Thank you~
Great tutorial! I'm making a bag that has binding around all endings/corners. I'm wondering how you set up your binding to the bottom of mesh pocket for additional reinforcement so I don't end up with too many layers of fabric at the bottom (working with outdoor/duck thick fabric).
I am making a Sydney Bag by Swoon, which I love by the way. I am making this bag with some modification. I need to make inside pockets to hold a regular water bottle. Would it be possible to make the pocket with a gathered elastic top and the bottom would be open but finished and fold the pocket in half and then seam it into the side seams of the lining? My measurement of the pocket...I'm thinking...would be 6" H x 10 1/2" long..allowing for seam allowance, but this piece would be folded in half and sewn into the seam allowance. Would I need the piece to be longer to accommodate fullness for the elastic? Or should I redesign the pocket pattern using your design...the V design as shown in your video? Thank you
Excelente explicación gracias
You’re awesome!
Please do you have a video instructions on the 2 bags ?
Hello. How would I add a pocket with no sides? All I have is the front and back of the bag?
thank you very much.
awesome!
nice bag
Do you need a specific type of mesh for the mesh pocket? I just have the kind from hobby lobby. It was cheap for what I need it for 😂
If you're putting something sturdy in like a water bottle, you'll want to use some decent strong mesh: sewsweetness.com/products/mesh?v=8e3eb2c69a18
I've already sewn the pocket but my elastic must have still been too long as its not very stretchy. Is there anything I can do to help it ?
Good
Can you attach mesh with no side panel?
Hi! I have a question, I am making a DIY bag from scratch, so should I add this on to the side peice before I stitch the whole bag together or?
Yes. Do as she described during construction
Is there a part 2 or something? You didnt finish
Grazie
How long is the elastic.? Tks
I have the same question! Perhaps the width of the panel?
You say "any" bag, but both bags you show have a gusset on each side. The purse I want to add a side pocket to has a single seam down the sides. It would be helpful to have instructions on how to add side pockets to a single-seam bag as well. (since these instructions are not really for "any" bag -- only those with a side gusset)
You never said how many inches are the height of the pocket? The one that holds a bottle of water?
Should have watch the whole video found my answer.
I did the same thing!!!
Your video should titled "how to make a pocket" because you don't show how to "ADD" a pocket.
The title of the video is literally "how to ADD.." and it only showed the process of her making it. not add it to any backpack. that's stupid really
