  • AUTO FANATICA | LAND ROVER FREELANDER | REVIEW 2019 | (2004) | 4X4 CROSSER
A freelander, not expensive, not glamarous not a technological masterpiece. Still the Freelander was very popular in the 90s and 2000s. Land Rover wanted a mini discovery that would appeal to car buyers who found the Range Rover brand too expensive, the Defender too rough and the Discovery too big. The result is a Crosser before Crossers were a thing.
Just like modern crossers, the freelander drives more like a car than an allroader 4x4. Cars like this saw the death of vehicles like this running petrol engines in favour a 4 and 6 cylinder diesels until recently when they have returned thanks to DieselGate and the rise of hybrids.
I feel like this car reminds me of a forgotten age when the U.K still had a big player in the car industry. The U.K car industry produced some truly revolutionary vehicles over the years and the freelander is no exception.
Pros: good viewing position for drivers, practical design, easy to drive, still fairly cheap and plentiful in the second hand market (for now)
Cons: Petrol versions are not really ideal, certain parts have high failure rates

This was my first car got it in 2012 for about $4000 USD. Had 75,000 miles and drove awesome granted the heater broke and the hatch in the back always had an obscene amount of water in it somehow? But I really enjoyed it. I had the version with the upgraded wheels and sound system and it was white. I loved the front with the plastic under the headlights. Also took a beating quite well, someone rear ended me in a corolla and their car was totaled while it just slightly pushed the rear wheel into the door on mine. Back window still worked though!

Funnily enough, I bought a freelander for my first car a few weeks ago, and it too has a massive and strange amount of constant water in the hatch in the back xD

This was also my big sister's first car, it's a Freelander 1 facelift model in ivory white color, and beige or light brown interior (I'm not sure which). And it also has an upgraded interior cause it has those land rover leather seats with chair armrests, and a different steering wheel, I think it's from a Freelander 2. The previous owner probably did those mods
It's a great car imo, the engine is capable enough and economic at the same time for a 4wd car. It's a Diesel which is a great thing cause BMW makes the best diesel cars imo.
This car may look weak but it's quite durable and resilient! It's from a time cars were built more sturdy. And it does have some serious off road capability too
She got a new car and now it's sitting in the garage and my parents were thinking about selling it but they will give me as a gift when I'm old enough to get my license and if I do well at school, I'm very excited that 😁

To be fair my humour is mainly based on me being a misery guts. It's not to everyone's taste. I was more nostalgic here to the loss of Rover more than anything. Despite how I may have come across, I did quite enjoy the quirky side of the freelander.
