- To celebrate 25 years since our first Australian touring car championship title, the #23 NISMO Nissan Altima V8 Supercar will race in colours of Jim Richards’ 1990 ATCC-winning Nissan Skyline HR31 at 2015 Bathurst 1000.
Gentleman Jim. The bloke who could drive the wheels of any thing he drove..
Loving the old school look on the Altima, and that HR, just, wow, such a beautiful looking car. Im so happy and proud to say I too have a R31
Same here, very proud to own an HR31 :)
i own a wagon... does that count? ;)
I worked for Nissan in those days. Attended all the tracks around OZ.
Great car, great people, great times.
That’s why Supra will never be a Godzilla !! Nissan rules the track !!
Another top Kiwi. Went to Aussie where the real action was.
Yes
Drove Freddie Gibsons GTR road car at that time. Came into work for a wheel alignment. Boss took it out for a test drive after the work was done. He came back handed me the keys and said be bloody careful but you gotta take it for a spin. My god! Gently opened the throttle to get out onto the main road and then gave it the beans. Was pushed back into my seat like never before. Remember seeing the expression of peoples faces coming the other way. Especially one guy looking at me like what the fuck! It went like shit off a shovel once the turbo came in! Found out later from my boss that it had a slightly detuned race engine in it. Never forget it.
Bullshit 😂
Why the hell would I go to all the trouble to type a bullshit story like that? I was an automotive machinist in Malvern at the time and we did some work for the touring car teams of the time. A garage was also part of the business and somehow or other Gibsons Skyline came in. Was told it had a detuned race motor from one of their race cars. What is so hard to believe about that? @@jonnobarrie1744
Agreed this was the best colour scheme, you know a car has to be good if Jim says it was his favourite.
Only ever met Richo once when the NASCAR's were doing some demo laps on the clay at Speedway Park in Adelaide in January 1993 before they ran their show on the Adelaide International Raceway half mile oval the next night. Very approachable bloke and to my then 17 year old self he was only too happy to sign an autograph and have a chat. Even though the NASCAR was a paved oval car so they obviously weren't going to be running hard on the clay, I remember him telling me that he loved that night because it took him back to his speedway days in NZ.
Altima V8 .... Lol.. Nissan lost its way ... When this cid was realeased.. had the french confusion in their sports cars...
Oran Park, Amaroo, both tiny terrific circuits. Rest In Peace, both victims of residential property speculation and Sydney’s relentless suburban expansion. Australia’s motorsport history unnecessarily lost.
Very Corporate of you Jim...but come on...that Nissan Ultima just isnt a production car, not even close. Its dimensions and wheel base even arent...its the same tube chassis as all the other cars in that stupid class..i mean...its got a dam Patrol motor in it for crying out loud...it hasnt and never will be a production car. Unlike the HR31 GTS-R and R32 Skyline GTR wich both were.....the only similarity is a bit of paint and vinyl wrap. Its the reason that after F&H banned Nissan instopped following motor sport...well, until February when the real Bathurst is on...the Liqui Moli 12hr....but yea Jim...very Corporate responces...well done 😁 PS: i agree..."Pack of Arseholes"
Wasn't the R32 GTR he drove getting a restoration too...sure Nismo Australia posted something to facebook months ago?
mmmmmmmmm all good . I never bought an Asian car . drove plenty. So dont blame me for the loss of an industry in Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we actually used to build nissans in australia .. but it came to an end in the 90s under the labor gov "button car plan"..
Ah yes, the R31. A very underated car imo.
Legend car and a legend driver. Just need Biante model cars to make a model of it.
I have the GTR but hopefully I can get a gtst one day
