- Thanks to Shannons Insurance, we had Jim Richards attend the 2019 Nitto Performance Engineering GT-R Festival, held at Sydney Dragway. He signed autographs, took pics, spoke to fans and we got to have a candid interview with him about his experience and memories of the GT-R.
Gentleman Jim Richards is a dead set Legend. Such a humble bloke but passionate about racing to his core. Awesome work getting him to the event.
'How many Targa Tasmanias did you win Jim?
'just all of them'
Gentleman Jim. Has there been a racer in Australia who has won in as many different cars & classes as him? To me he's the complete race driver.
God Damn Legend.💪💪 I still remember watching the 91 and 92 Bathurst Live. It was like it was yesterday.
yep, was 8-9yrs old respectively, my family was touring car championship crazy, until they banned the GTR's and went with v8 supercars, would occasionally watch thereafter if there nothing better to do, but we didn't care who won...
Gentlemen jim what a legend
He sure is. And that's coming from a Sierra man. ;)
I remember going to watch the GTRs at Amaroo Raceway in Annangrove. Skaife was driving and I couldn't believe the speed and acceleration of this car. I was standing just after the kink in the up hill straight and it scared me so much I had to move. It defied physics and I was sure the car was going to flip and go into the crowd as it came through the turn. Blew me away.
So cool to hear first hand accounts of the top guys from the heyday. So much about these cars isn't online and is hidden in print and the minds of people like him. This years was an epic fest, not sure where you'll go to continue improving but I'm looking forward to it.
It would be good to have Skaife, Gibson and Richards at the next GTR Festival. Make it happen Hawkins 👍
Ben McLean we tried to contact Skaife via his agent. No reply
Motive Video Should of asked Jim to organise it with Mark.
@@MotiveVideo Hardly surprising.
@@MotiveVideo Freddy Gibson and Gibson Motorsport. Great historical development of Nissan Racing. George Fury, Seton, Gary Scott and the changes in car livery from Peter Jackson to Windfield
Lots of ♥️ for GDR’s!
What a legend & stand up bloke.
What a brilliant idea to have Jim share his views....
Thanks for organising this lovely event and for sharing this video Andrew!
Great vid of a true motorsports legend! 👍
So cool how much you learn, I was looking back at the history of the gtr. It seems the new world only views JDM cars as drifting motorsports. But these cars were invented to dominate the track..so awesome.
Jim Richards a legend.
who doesn't speed on the public road
but on the track only!!!!!!!
Love the old group A cars.
what about the V8 poopercars ? i could watch them all da........... actually i cant watch is a disaster
Its so weird (and cool) to see old guys that are in to imports. You never see this in america. Its awesome!
In case youre not aware, he was one of the world's greatest group a race drivers in the 80s and 90s and drove nissans to many victories for factory nissan and gibson racing.
The gtr he drove was the one which was coined godzilla and which built the legend. They still exist today in private hands.
Great vid guys, keep up the great work
Great guy , great interview .
A few more like that would be nice , maybe Scaifey
Long live the king jim and the gtr 👍
sick vid as always from Motive
Such a legend real down to earth guy!
He done well racing some of the smallest v8s at Bathurst in such a hi tech race car but on the other hand brocky was never far away 😊
Yes Holden and ford fanboys, this is the greatest track car built. 😁
King Ragnar cough Sierra Cosworth cough
carbonfiber492 This killed the Sierra.
Steven Yeing needed all the tech and 4wd to beat a single cam 4 banger with a live rearend
And yet still wasn’t as dominant in racing
carbonfiber492 They did dominate in racing, they were restricted in the 1992 series to bring them back to the field, otherwise they would of dominated even more, they were the reason the rules were changed. They had two years in the series, won both bathursts and Championships, pretty dominant to me.
Ripper bloke Mr Jim Richards!
An absolute legend.
What a legend...
Jim Richards and a Group A gtr? you outdid yourselves motive!
this is awesome
On ya Jim!
So basically Australians made the r32 GTR what it is today.
Yes it sure sounds like it, straight from the man himself.
Legend
Why didn't they make Holden and Ford pick up their game to match the GTR?
cause they soft as baby shit.
I wonder when the moment was when Jim realised...yea Boys...they ain't going touch us in this thing
great video guys
OG
Very cool video!
i love how he has remained unapologetic about his comment haha
Is this bloke a true blue bloody champ or what people?
Who are the three assholes that clicked dislike?
How many times did he say “GTR” ?
gee dee arrrrr
@@wrx2hot4u I wouldnt say its embarassing. Just unique.
none was all GDR
tangles01 hahahaha yes someone got it.
wrx2hot4u Considering he’s a kiwi not an Aussie 🤷🏼♂️
GRD
All hail the 🐐 of Godzilla!! 👍 Jim Richards, 2nd most all time with 7 wins at Bathurst and back to back with the R32. 😎
I was a DJR Sierra fan during those days so I always cursed those Winfield GT-R's as a kid. 😂🤣
Brocky done well up against him in the small v8s no hi tech like Jim
@@chrisczaj7947 No he didn't. Brocky went with Ford for a few years during that era because Holden COULDN'T keep up, the 5.0L were being eaten alive. His last win was 1987 due to the Texaco Sierra's being DQ'ed, he actually finished 3rd.
There were thoughts of just making them RWD.
How much power did they have?
@Fire Heart Awesome i loved the old school races they should bring it back all makes of cars
👌🏽
Was That Car Crashes In 1992?
The man why their called godzilla
Group A was the absolute best, shame v8 supercars are boring now
#GODZILLA
This was filmed right before the country went communist
