In fact, all the DLC courses use a lot more polygons than the 32 original tracks.
When designing the original courses, they probably didn't know how much the console could handle, so they played it safe. While for the DLCs, they already knew the technical limitations so they could be a lot more creative.
To be fair, rendering the city is probably extremely cheap. Each building only consists of only a couple of polygons. And they can reuse the same models and textures over and over again.

@@elliottjewell5898 Well, I assume the track design was probably one the most time consuming aspects of this game's development. So, when they started designing the courses, many of the potentially ressource-intensive features like lighting effects and physics were most likely not implemented yet.
Of course, they knew the performance limitations of their console, but they couldn't know beforehand how much resources the finished game would actually need.

Probably cause the city took all the space and Nintendo couldn't fill that block.

Amazing how capable the system really is, it's processing 11AI racers, 12 carts and Characters (given all but your character are slightly lower poly) facial expressions and animations, processing physics, lighting, filters, the stage and it's animations and multiple animated NPC's all while saving replay data.
Mute city doesn't even seem possible with that hardware.
Wyvern and yandere simulator can’t even get past 5fps
Aummi the dev of Yandere sim just isn’t good at optimizing his game.

The town below Rainbow road (the N64 remake) reminds me of the North Pole from The Polar Express. It even has a train driving around the level.
Fun fact: There's a map of the town from N64 Rainbow Road on the wall in Super Bell Subway.

Correction: Yes you can see Resetti's feet in New Leaf.
You can see them In City Folk too, at the Reset Surveillance Center in the City. You can also find him in Animal Forest e+ if you hit a bunch of rocks, you can see His feet there as well.

To Shesez: I've been a fan of the series since the Dark Souls episode. As a kid, I was always fascinated by what sort of secrets were hidden outside of the bounds of a game (I obsessed over the watchtower in the Dam level of GoldenEye, and it felt so satisfying to use a GameShark and get to explore it on my own). What I'm trying to say is, your series has scratched that itch for me, and thank you for all the effort you put into it, even when things are going topsy-turvy in your life. Keep up the good work!
