I couldn't agree more! I watch it EVERYTIME it comes on the TV and every year for the holidays. All of Kate Winslet's lines are wholesome and life changing in this. I was also appalled that this movie isn't rated higher!

When they say that Amanda (Cameron Diaz) lost her masculine energy after she arrived in England I immediately thought, well that's because that was her mask. She is introduced as someone who is very high-strung. Graham (Jude Law) complemented her true self and allowed her to feel safe enough to drop that mask, unlike her ex who made her feel insecure in their relationship (rightly so because he was cheating on her). Women who climb the ladder in male-dominated fields have to keep up the boss bitch persona, and it's incredibly hard to drop when you bring home your work (she had an in-home studio). It may seem strange to those who never have to experience it, but I think Nancy Meyer's knew exactly what she was doing even if the pacing made it seem off.
haven't started the episode yet but I agree 100% with the title. I firmly believe, in my heart of hearts, that Jack Black is a top notch lover. A man that shameless has nothing to lose.

I am glad you mentioned veteran actor Eli Wallach as Arthur. He is so good. Arthur helped Iris become the "leading lady" in her own life and that enabled her to become friends with Myles and cut ties with Jasper.
The Holiday is one of my all time favorite movies and I watch it every year!
I saw this in theaters and remember being delighted by Jack Black as a love interest and the surprise Hanukkah scene with a Hollywood legend. 10/10 recommend just for the holiday feel-goodness.

Honestly so happy that you guys agree! When I watched this movie for the first time I absolutely loved Miles(Jack Black) and Iris's (Kate Winslet) chemistry in the movie. It seemed more like a realistic relationship than Amanda(Cameron Diaz) and Graham(Jude Law). Plus Miles just seemed like such a fun and amazing boyfriend and Jack Black did a great job of showing that.
I’ve watched The Holiday an uncomfortable amount of times. No regrets. Jude is at peak hotness, he’s a snack. Also this was before AirBnB, I wonder if this movie inspired it 😂. Like who really just lets a stranger babysit their dog and drive their car? We were so much more innocent back then. Also Imogen Heap. Need I say more? This movie is EVERYTHING

Kate and Jack are the heart and soul of the movie. Their connection is sweet and authentic… the blond pair is Hollywood fantasy. They are called the A-couple but Winslet and Black are the A-couple to me.
Yes yes YESSSS Miles all the way! Graham is lovely but he doesn’t make you root for him the way Miles does, he’s so sweet and funny and he also understands the pain of heartbreak the way Iris does. They deserve wayyy more screen time in the movie 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️

27:48 fun fact! the Dustin Hoffman scene wasn’t planned at all. He drove past the video store where they were filming in LA and decided to just walk on the set to see what was being filmed, and they came up with the scene on the spot.

I love this. I love them. But when Miles said that movie trailer editors make a median of $400k a year and they all said that's an "okay" amount of money..... my broke ass heart was like *oof*
This movie has wonderful hidden gems that homage old Hollywood through the scriptwriter character. He explains what a "meet cute" is to Winslet, and the example is from "Bluebeard's Eighth Wife" directed by Ernst Lubitsch, who made amazing rom coms back in the 40s. That movie was written by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett, the latter helped do rewrites for Casablanca, so he probably came up with some epic lines in the realm of adding "kid" to "Here's looking at you kid" which Winslet says Arthur did.
I ducking love this movie! Also, I love the fact that both of the actors who play the lovers that scorn Jack Black and Kate Winslet are in A Knight's Tale. It's such a feel good movie. I don't care how realistic it is.

Wait, so do ya'll not know the story behind the Dustin Hoffman cameo? He happened to pass by the set during the filming of that scene and one of the cast or crew who knew him said hi and was like "yo, Dustin, do you feel like doing a quick funny cameo?" and he said yes. it was not planned.

And I’m just starting the video, but I’m absolutely in agreement with the title. I’m usually the first to fall for an English accent, but I adored Miles and Jack Black’s portrayal of him. Especially the subtle fist pump towards the end…ugh, so good!!!!

Turns out they filmed all the exterior shots in the UK, but then later filmed all the interiors in LA, and Jude waited for 5 weeks before he was scheduled to shoot and got very tan in the meantime!
