  • In this video i make a quick mount for my handheld radio, I use Midland Radios. There is no place in my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ to mount a radio, so i had to make one. I will be trying it out at King of the Hammers this week.

I ordered the handheld mic/speaker attachment for my GMRS. I put the radio up on my A-pilar by my belt and run the cb like handle along the roll cage to the windshield. There I have a retracting pully thing from amazon like the truckers use. Grab the mic, talk and drop the mic, it retracts back into the hold position.

Put some thin rubber tape on bracket to keep the rattle down to a low roar lol

Most of the time K.I.S.S. is the best approach. I like this idea and will be replicating it for my Zuki. Thank you.

Great idea! And that tab is to strap your windshield down. When you fold down the windshield, a strap goes through it to the one that matches on the hood, its normally between the bump stop/windshield rest on the hood.

Great idea for mounting your radio Kelly . I use a 67 Designs phone mount in my TJ and just love it . It works very well and it holds my phone nice and tight .

It's real easy to take off the center bezel and through bolt your radio mount to it. I through bolted my phone holder there. It's the perfect spot.

What I found works best for me is mounting it to the roll bar just above the driver door. Just to the left of me. Handhelds are not loud so with it just above my ear I can hear better. And to talk, a simple left hand up to the PTT button. Even with CB, I used a handheld CB the same way. I just mount with a velcro strap around the bar, and clip the radio to it.

It’s a pain to use with one hand but I use a ram mount for my phone that is super solid. When I want a bigger screen I can even mount my tablet to it. And when bouncing around my phone or tablet never falls out the mount!

I was thinking of a magnetic mount for my GMRS handhelds, even my cb mic, which is super lightweight. Was trying to figure out how to incorporate the lease type things, so it draws it back when done.

Don't just talk to the radio with it clipped way up at the header. Nobody will be able to hear you if you're that far from the mic. I have friends who try to do this and it never works. You get a good carrier signal but only a faint or no voice.
