I've watched a lot of these CB install vids for JL's and this one by far is the best. I was a radar and UHF/VHF radio tech in the Air Force and my first Job out of the military was a job at a CB shop located in a truck stop. This channel nailed it. Far better routing of the power and antenna coax and proper grounding of both. A bad ground connection on the antenna will prevent proper tuning giving a high standing wave ratio which will impede radio performance and could over time damage the transmitter final output stage of the radio. I will be getting this bar for my JL. Thanks for a great video. You earned another subscriber today.
Love all that you and Cindy have done. You two truly make an impact on the Jeep Community. I just ordered The CB Bar and Antenna Mount and am so looking forward to installing it and putting it to use. I found my old trusty Radio Shack CB Radio from back in the 90's. I plan on installing that one with a good antenna. Keep up the good Wayalife!
I received my CB bar yesterday. Installed it today, took about 30 minutes. A rare Jeep project that was easy and exactly like the video. Great product, very happy with it. Thanks
I know this is a few years old... but fantastic video! I am an engineer and have been putting radios in Jeeps for 35 years (as a hobby). I have lost count of how many radio systems I have 'fixed' for people by simply adding a ground strap to the tailgate or panel the antenna is mounted to. You are going to save a lot of people some frustration of wondering why they can't talk a mile down the road.
I appreciate the 'additional' information, i.e., wiring up a CB radio. I was able to follow your directions, had the auxiliary futures and tied in as shown! Outstanding.
I'm really impressed with all your builds so far, half of the things I've done to my jeep are from you. Thanks and great job with the educational videos.
Such a well thought out and designed accessory. Just got mine today for my JLUR. Plus this video makes it a breeze to install. Keep up the great products and vids.
This product is top notch, went into our new Rubicon. Managed to install a Yaesu 991a onto the bar weighing in at 9.4 pounds. This requires a substantial bracket however especially for offroad drivers. TY Eddie for this innovative design!
Very new to the whole Jeep thing. Bought a JT Rubicon. Ordered a CB Bar. Very nice. High quality. Works exactly as I expected to mount my full size cb up and out of the way. Thanks. Semper Fi.
Thank you! Order the CB Bar love it, everything is up and out of the way, and it is simple and easy to install by following your video... again thank you Wayalife you truly do make a difference.
Probably one of the best instructional videos I have ever watched. What a talent you have for not only making JEEPS cool and functional but explaining the HOW to process with style, brevity and finesse. I am going to tackle this project and will be ordering your CB bar kit. New SUB for sure. JEEP WAVING YA BRO.
I received the CB BAR this past Friday, the day after I picked up my JLUR from the body shop for minor repairs from daily driving. I ran your video again on the install of the CB BAR as I didn't see other instructions. Super simple and easy install. It took more time to reinstall the freedom tops as this was my first time having them off. ( I made sure that the logo faced to the back so everyone in the Jeep can see it and I will send the curious to you.) Happy to be back in my Pumpkin Pi. Thanks and God bless.
Installed my CB Bar today. I installed a smaller profile CB radio. I wasn't able to use the larger holes as indicated in the video but I was able to use the smaller center holes without error. Works and looks great! Can't wait to get the Aux switch plate in! Wayalife - one request. See if you can find a great way to mount a hunting rifle.
Wicked easy install, looks legit in my Mojito! JLU. Rockin' the Wayalife 5" decal on the back quarter window. Yeah it ain't cheap... but you are paying for quality, Made in the USA!, and easy functionality. Cheers on an amazing product!
Love it! Especially when you hit the trail. ;) The JL Journal is awesome! Mounting your cb or where to mount your cb is always one of the first mods to figure out. It’s nice that you’re providing a great solution for folks.
The bar I ordered is different than the one you installed. Mine has a gap which made it difficult to mount the cb bracket. It took several washers to fill the gap so the radio would fit in the bracket. Sure would have been easier if the gap didn't exist on the bar.
This video was made over 5 years ago and I have since improved the bar to be a universal accessory bar that can accommodate just about any device. The following is a link to the instructions for it: wayalife.com/threads/acc-bar-jeep-jl-wrangler-jt-gladiator-overhead-accessory-mount-installation.64450/ That said, I am sorry to hear you had difficulties installing your radio. It really is the first time I've heard of anyone having problems but glad that you were able to figure something out.
I have the CB bar installed, Then i put up the radio and try to run the wires like them and can not get the big white fuse to go anywhere. also hard to see how they keep the wires in the channel. Would love to see more detailed video on running the power wires. The CB Bar is great and easy to install.
Nice design and video. One issue I have is, it always gets to me why Jeep accessory kits don't come with all stainless steel hardware. For a couple extra bucks this kit would be perfect and save us a trip to the hardware store.
The hardware provided is zinc plated and I've not heard of anyone having issues with them or at least, when it comes to corrosion. But, I appreciate the feedback and will give this some thought.
You might want to put a small piece of vaccum hose where the coaxial cable pops out in front. I had the one on my VHF ground out from rubbing the casing off. Talking on the radio was a joke with it like that. LOL Even some good tape would be enough to protectbit as long as it is watched for rubbing. Love the bar idea! I was thinking of just going with one of the smaller Cobra radio's. Ran a Cobra 19 in a big truck when my radio was in, that little radio was getting out better than the classic sitting beside me. I had matched set of 6' fiberglass whip antenna's that really helped it. The guy with classic wasn't happy, because he was the owner of the little radio I was using...lol
Wow another great video! I have a vintage Cobra single side band CB radio and was worried about what I was going to do to install it without damage or having it low with water issues. Your video solved that problem and I plan to do the same wiring on my JLU Rubicon, so good tip about the ground. That is a well engineered mount.
I installed this in my 2019 Rubicon Unlimited. It was a piece of cake to install. Regarding the wiring, I found a easy grounding spot behind the dash end panel on the passenger side. It is much easier than the large bolt you suggested in your video. Just a helpful hint for the next person.
Great video. Ham radios that are remotely mountable I think are the way to go. One only need to study a little bit, and pass a test for the entry level license. One can install the body of the radio in a location that is protected from possible water penetration, as well as out of the field of view. The control head, mic and speaker can then be installed in an accessable location within reach. I use a Lido gooseneck mount that attaches to the seat mounting bolt.. The advantages of amateur radio over citizens band are enormous. They use FM instead of AM, and can run more legal power. They also operate in the VHF/UHF spectrum where there is no band noise. It's a little bit more trouble than a cb radio initially, insofar as the licensing but we'll worth it in the end.
I recently passed my HAM test (Technician)... The proctors encouraged me to try the General test... I had yet to study much for the General and had yet to be able to pass any of the sample General tests that I had taken... Surprisingly, I ended up passing the General... The proctors then encouraged me to take the Extra test also, just for shits & giggles, but since I had not even read the question pool, I had no expectation whatsoever that I might pass it (and I didn't)... My only goal was the Technician, so passing the General was a pleasant surprise... There is FM on CB these days, so that doesn't count as a reason to go the CB route vs the HAM route... The issue is what will you be using the radio for... If you are involved in a group activity (offroad or otherwise), you use whatever they are using... That might be CB, FRS, or GMRS... If you just need the radio because you want to listen to conversations on a long drive or as emergency communications in areas without cellular service, having more options is better and as such, having a radio that can do some of the HAM channels and the CB channels might be something that you would want to look into... The radio that I ordered does 10-12m and if I turn the power all the way down, it is in the legal power range for CB... In a TRUE emergency situation, I'm not going to be concerned about being legal with respect to power or frequencies though... I'm not particularly motivated to talk to random strangers on the radio though... Especially on the HAM or GMRS frequencies where you need to give your FCC call sign and which anyone could look up to find your real name and address on the FCC database... That is a MAJOR security issue as far as I'm concerned... So, I'll just lurk the channels...
Thanks for sharing this link to this video today! If I may, I like the product but I think it will have more value if you include a place for the wiring to go through the bar and some wire loom to wrap the wiring. You can do the wiring first and then run it through the bar with a convent exit hole to the radio. Now the windshield can be lowered with no issues.
Actually, you can do that now. The large holes on top of the tube will allow you to run your own wiring through it. There are lots of folks who have done this.
Hmmmm, in the event the unexpected happens (stuff does occur) that square steel tube could be damaging to ones' forehead. Looks nice - hope I'm wrong about the safety concern.
Yup, "stuff does occur" and there are all kinds of ways one can hurt themselves. If it's a concern of yours, this probably isn't the right solution for you. That being said, it does sit higher up and further away than the sport cage I have installed on my JK and so I'm not too concerned.
If you're really concerned about bumping your head you can get a pool noodle and slice it lengthwise and put it over the bar then you can tape it or wrap it with whatever cloth you want
Not sure if someone has mentioned this, but it would be cool to add a few more mount holes that could be used to mount an extra set of rear Jeep grab handles.
Sorry about that. These sell about as fast as I can get them made and I keep increasing the batch size. I should have more in by next week. If you've indicated to be notified when they're back in stock, I would recommend you get your order in as quickly as possible.
Another great install video! Your new overhead bar looks like an awesome solution. Your videos have been a great inspiration for my own channel. I just wish I could get my videos to look as good as yours.
There's no need for one on a JK as the install is even easier. You can buy one of these bars for a JK here www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-CB-BAR
Awesome video!!! Only thing I would add is that you may need to drill out (very slightly) the mounting brackets to accommodate the supplied bolts for Uniden CB's (maybe others?). Great product!
I found the hardware for attaching the antenna bracket to the tailgate a little short for the HD 0:57 reinforced spare tire mount of the Extreme Recon, as the provided hardware only catches a few threads. Any recommendations?
That worked out nice! Very clean installation with excellent use of the factory design. You could also install a bunch of other stuff on the bar; like electrical switches, and other assorted electronics, gauges, etc.
Lol I’m 6’5”. Between this and the sound bar and side panel my head would be like a pinball if I were in a accident or roll over! But great innovation and idea!
LOL!! Yeah, I'm only 5'-7" and can see where this could maybe be an issue for a tall guy. That being said, it does sit higher up and further away than the sport cage I have installed on my JK.
Honestly, for a TJ, you might be well served to install something like a Rock Hard sport cage. That's what we did back in the day and just mounted a CB to it.
Great video, thinking about ordering one for myself. This should still work with a sunrider top, correct? edit: just saw a previous reply that it will, going to order one later today
I just got a JL as my JKU was totaled. Interested in the CB Bar, but would like to see how you did the coax, antenna mount and power. Love the Cobra 29's (have 2 of em) and would like to put them in the new rig. Video please?
@@wayalife You bet. Furthermore... You are a resourceful fellow with lots of know-how, insight, street credibility and handy with tools. I've admired several of your other videos where you create hand made solutions for things like license plate relocation brackets and bumpers. I'd love to see you come up with some solutions for things like Hi-Lift mounts, rear-section baskets (like Ace Engineering), and Safari frames. The aftermarket is lagging. You don't.
Just received my CB bar for my 2018 JKU Rubicon today. Installed it and I'm having a problem. The mounting brackets that bolt to the roll bar andsupport tge bar do not have a downward bend to them ( like the JL ones in the video) and are making contact with my freedom tops. The contact is keeping my freedom tops from compressing the gaskets and making a water/air tight seal.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having a problem with your CB BAR. Unfortunately, I am on my way to Moab now but would be grateful if you could please contact me by email so that I can assist you better.
Looks great and easy to install... couldn't quite make out how close to your head it is... in an accident - or just being thrown around a bit on the trail - does it add additional danger?
The CB BAR itself sits just a little in front of the sun visors. If you hit the sun visors, you'll hit the bar. The size of the radio you mount would be the bigger concern as a full size unit can sit pretty far forward. If you're a tall guy and are concerned about this, I would recommend that you install my switch mount/relocation bracket and use a smaller radio. This will get the radio well out of the way of your head. This video will show you what I'm talking about. ruclips.net/video/Qi79fJoUqSw/видео.html
Just finished installing this in my JT. Thank you Eddie for a great Made in the U.S.A. product! I didn't hear it mentioned. Does it work ok with the sunrider? You're the best!
Question does that red/white wire stay go on with ignition and off when ignition off ? Please help thanks. Love the ground strap I ordered it. I like your professional work.
Does the position of the C.B. installed that way cause a problem for us tall guys? Just concerned about the head and C.B. collision on rough terrain I’m 6’2”. I like the idea and installing a C.B. Radio will be a priority once I get my JL. As an over the road truck driver I use a C.B. a lot and will definitely want one in my JL Rubicon.
What I can tell you is that the CB BAR itself sits just in front of the sun visors and at about the same height if not a hair higher. A full size CB might be an issue for you but I know people who've installed more compact models and this might work better for you. IF you have a soft top, you can actually install some CB radios on top of the bar to help offer even more clearance.
HELP!....first of all, your stuff is so helpful! Now...what mounting solution do you recommend if my 2021 Rubicon JLU has the One Touch Power Top? New to off roading. Looking forward to the lifestyle. Just picked up a regular sized CB that I can't seem to find a good place to mount it.
Actually, I have a lot of guys with the power top who have installed this CB BAR. I've been told it takes just a bit more work but that it was otherwise, no problem.
Some clear plastic tape would have been good on the roll bar to keep from rubbing the paint off. I got that idea from the spider top that you just installed. As always another great video!!!
The clear tape on the Spiderweb Sunshade install is used to prevent rubbing of the paint due to "movement" of the top. Once bolted on, the CB BAR will NOT move. In other words, clear tape shouldn't be needed. But, if you've got some laying around, I don't think it'd hurt to use :)
Hello, weird question. I installed the cb bar and bracket for cobra 29, but when I was installing the radio I lost one of the thumbscrews. I've contacted cobra but they don't have them in stock. I was wondering if you had some thumbscrews I could order from you. (3, 4, half a dozen) ? Tried Lowes, Amazon, various websites...
Thank very much Sir . this is what I needed to know on how install a CB radio to my new jeep. Very helpful and understanding. Thank you again . your video will save me a lot of money ..👍🚙⛺🇺🇸
Can you please make a video on how to tune the antenna on the Cobra CB because there isn’t any video on how to do so. And if you know of any good video on how to operate it please share. Thanks
@@wayalife AHA... thanks, no i did not. Saw the video using the hardtop, ordered the cb bar and didn't go looking for soft top till i began installing it. Thank you!
I have a silly question that red/white wire that is direct to battery. when you make that connection that is an always hot wire correct? Do I need to disconnect the battery to be safe or can this be done with the batteries connected. It's always confusing with the secondary battery because if you disconnect the primary you still have juice from the secondary battery right? Sorry just wanted to do this correctly.
nice video - i know u got a smaller anytone radio , those are ok but you should have went with a President Bill fcc its the same size and just works better as far as controls an volume, no need to mod it either . a much better unit if u ask me good video though !!
The CB BAR, you can buy here www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-CB-BAR The radio, you can find on Amazon or the like. It just depends on what you're wanting.
I'm brand new to the jeep community. So this may be a stupid question. If I'm riding with the top down do I need to worry about any electronics in the cb getting damaged by the sun?
The sun, no. A sudden and unexpected down pour of rain, maybe. Not all CB's are made the same and some are better at being water resistant than others.
Update: I just finished installing the CB Bar on my 2DR JL. It's a snap with the door surrounds. When I inevitably take off my doors for the summer I'll have to use the hardware that Kevin includes with the bar kit, so gotta store it in a safe and easy place to remember. But, I will confirm it's an easy install and looks solid. One other thing to keep in mind is brackets. Eddie carefully explains in his selling page notes at, www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-CB-BAR that different brands and sizes of CD (and Ham Radio) will require different brackets and alignment holes. I have the Cobra 29LX Professional Radio. So, do a bit of advance research. Best Buy did not have any brackets that work, so I had to find one at Home Depot and drill it out.
I’m wanting to do this to my not yet bought gladiator and was getting the parts list together. When will the bar and antenna mount come back into stock?
So Eddie where did you get the CB bracket that's on the bar itself to mount the CB too? I ordered this setup and if it comes with the bar I didn't receive one or is that something that comes with the CB? Thanks in advance
I've watched a lot of these CB install vids for JL's and this one by far is the best.
@@wayalife Nice! Then great job all around!
Eddie, what an awesome video and write up. Thanks for sharing and what you do for the Jeep community.
Glad you liked the video and glad that we can help the Jeep community is what little ways that we can :)

Idk if you have the mopar grab handles or not but they won’t interfere much with them if that’s what ur talking about
Well had one in my shopping cart went to check out and it was out of stock again. They must be very popular.
I know that I have followed several of his install videos myself. Always looking forward to the next video.
Eddie and Cindy have probably sold more Jeeps with their videos than my local dealership has. They are good people.
No doubt!
That was a thing of beauty and also great info on the grand strap too for folks he didn't know about that whole annoying grounding thing.
Thanks! I think a good ground or the lack there of is the biggest reason why people seem to think CB radios don't work well.
Very detailed video Eddie and Cindy wish there was a video this detailed on a JKU.
The antenna mount is not designed to work with the mopar reinforced spare tire mount being that it already has a provision for an antenna.
@@wayalife except the Mopar design doesn't accommodate NMO type antennas for gmrs.
If you use the NMO adapter that we sell it does ruclips.net/video/ngr7HsSj_pQ/видео.html
@@wayalife thank you. I really enjoy your channel.
That worked out nice! Very clean installation with excellent use of the factory design.
You could also install a bunch of other stuff on the bar; like electrical switches, and other assorted electronics, gauges, etc.
Thanks and yes, I do anticipate the CB BAR could be used for a myriad of other applications :)
🎈🎉🎊🚙 Congratulations For Another New Installation In The Jeep , JEEP FOREVER 🚙 OIIIIIIIO 🚙❤🚙 👍
That was a great video. Thank you, I'm going to look and try to find that bar for my jk. Thanks again.
You can buy one for a JK here: www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-CB-BAR
Exactly what I am looking for! Thanks for the great video.
Awesome, glad to hear it :)
I hope you will be making the mount for tj's and other models.
Honestly, for a TJ, you might be well served to install something like a Rock Hard sport cage. That's what we did back in the day and just mounted a CB to it.
Nice job Eddie doesn't get any more in-depth than that.
Thank you. Just wanted to make sure people could see how easy my CB BAR is to install and how well it works :)
Hi.. Bro. All your posts were superb.. . I love wrangler.. I seen all your posts.. I would love to see roll bar installation..
You mean like this ruclips.net/video/38kHbh6h5XQ/видео.html
Great video, thinking about ordering one for myself. This should still work with a sunrider top, correct?
edit: just saw a previous reply that it will, going to order one later today
Yes, it will work with a Sunrider and glad to hear you'll be ordering one :)
I just got a JL as my JKU was totaled. Interested in the CB Bar, but would like to see how you did the coax, antenna mount and power. Love the Cobra 29's (have 2 of em) and would like to put them in the new rig. Video please?
OK I;m a dumba$$ forgot this video. You did it for me DUH
LOL - glad you got it figured out :)
@waylife seems there’s no video for the JK way life bar, and my freedom panels will not properly mount with the bar installed
You have to remove the guide pins on the freedom top panel that are 2011-up. A 10mm wrench will be needed to do that.
Awesome. Just ordered for my JL 2DR Rubicon.
Glad to hear it :)
@@wayalife left a message in the contact portion
It was a pleasure talking to you today :)
Ditto
You sir....are a champion.
LOL - glad you like what you're seeing.
Great add-on for my CB radio! Nice and clean! Curious, will this also work with the Mopar Front Grab Handles?
I have had people make it work but you need to use some washers to help clear them.
Really nice understanding everything actor your video easy install thanks!!!
Glad to hear it! :)
Great product. I need one. went to place an order but these are out of stock. Any idea when these will be available ?
Yeah, sorry for being out. They've been selling like crazy lately. Should have more in and ready to ship in about a week.
Damn that is cool. Great job.
Thank you, glad you like what you see 😎
Where do you recommend to install the antenna for a gladiator?
Just finished installing this in my JT. Thank you Eddie for a great Made in the U.S.A. product! I didn't hear it mentioned. Does it work ok with the sunrider? You're the best!
Happy to hear that you're happy with your CB BAR! Yes, it will work with a Sunrider and it installs just like you would for a soft top.
Delivered today thanks again ✌️🇺🇸
Awesome! Glad to hear you got it! 👍
Question does that red/white wire stay go on with ignition and off when ignition off ? Please help thanks. Love the ground strap I ordered it. I like your professional work.
As I have it wired up in this video, yes. That wire is direct to battery and it stays on even with the ignition off.
Thanks so much you are AWESOME!!!!
I have your bar...its excellent, thank you. You should sell those brackets for mounting the antenna.
Thank you and I've had a lot of requests for them. I'm working on it now. :)
Where did you mount your antenna for the JT? Im thinking bout buying the radio mount, but cant find a good antenna mount. Hood? Bed? A pillar?
@@JTjitsu I mounted my NNO on an Amazon light mount at the back of the hood near the windshield. Folded the windshield down and ran the coax.
Great video my friend. I have a Sky One Touch Power Top. What kind of solution is there? Greetings from Germany.
I've had a lot of customers with one install the CB BAR. I've been told it just take a bit more work to make it happen.
Any estimate when back in stock? Love the ARB compressor firewall mount, fills the wasted space perfectly on my Mojave....
I should have more in stock next week but they are selling quickly.
@@wayalife thanks for the reply! That is a good point! Thanks

Truck stops, best resource for cb's.
Thank very much Sir . this is what I needed to know on how install a CB radio to my new jeep. Very helpful and understanding. Thank you again . your video will save me a lot of money ..👍🚙⛺🇺🇸
So glad to hear we could be of help to you.
Nice clean install.
Thank you :)
Can you please make a video on how to tune the antenna on the Cobra CB because there isn’t any video on how to do so. And if you know of any good video on how to operate it please share. Thanks
What Cobra CB are you using?
How do you mount the CB Bar on a soft top JL (2022) with door surrounds plugging the rollbar holes?
Love your stuff... Thanks!
Did you not watch the video? ruclips.net/video/8J-CEYysATY/видео.html
@@wayalife AHA... thanks, no i did not. Saw the video using the hardtop, ordered the cb bar and didn't go looking for soft top till i began installing it. Thank you!
Have you thought of a double mount? CB/HAM radio side by side?
I have but the cost of steel is already making it hard to keep costs down. Most people just drill extra holes to make it work.
Your content is always valuable, and informative!
Thank you, we're so glad to hear you say as much :)
You will be fine without it but when if in doubt, it never hurts to disconnect.
I can’t carry the cross member home to England but I’d buy the two end mounting brackets while I’m in Florida
nice video - i know u got a smaller anytone radio , those are ok but you should have went with a President Bill fcc its the same size and just works better as far as controls an volume, no need to mod it either . a much better unit if u ask me good video though !!
Hello, sorry, I have a gladiator overlan jeep and I want to put a radio of those that you have in the video, where can I find the radio and the bar?
The CB BAR, you can buy here www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-CB-BAR
The radio, you can find on Amazon or the like. It just depends on what you're wanting.
The edits are amazing so glad i subscribed
Thank you. We're so glad to hear it :)
I'm brand new to the jeep community. So this may be a stupid question. If I'm riding with the top down do I need to worry about any electronics in the cb getting damaged by the sun?
The sun, no. A sudden and unexpected down pour of rain, maybe. Not all CB's are made the same and some are better at being water resistant than others.
which sun shade is that and can you still close the roof with it still on.... sorry for the stupid question. im new to the new jeep life.
Spiderweb Shade and yes, you can still put the hard top on with it in place.
Not sure who Kevin is as my name is Eddie. Glad to hear you were able to get your CB BAR installed.
@@wayalife Corrected.
I’m wanting to do this to my not yet bought gladiator and was getting the parts list together. When will the bar and antenna mount come back into stock?
They are in stock now but I am currently out of town. I should be back on Wednesday and they will be available again then.
So Eddie where did you get the CB bracket that's on the bar itself to mount the CB too? I ordered this setup and if it comes with the bar I didn't receive one or is that something that comes with the CB? Thanks in advance
The CB Bracket comes with the CB radio.
Awesome thank you kind sir
When do you think you’ll have the CB Bar back in stock for JLU?
Ordered.
Looks like a great product - Can the sun visors be rotated to the side with the bar installed?
Yup. The CB BAR does not obstruct or prevent any of the OE features on the JL/JT from working.
I dont have my JT yet, but im thinking about doing this
Awesome! 👍
