Bro, I gotta say. Amidst all the new JL videos I’m glad that you’re still keeping JK mods alive. Lots of the real big youtubers have traded JKs for JLs. Only a few have stayed in the JK world. Thank you for that!
When I installed mine, I didn't use the zip tie either. I drilled two holes in the overhead roll bar and used two nut zerts. Well secured and no rattles.
Nice share, may not be fore everyone but it is for a lot of peeps. The majority of JK folks won't have the need or budget for a cage, but many have that for this product...I have the door strap extensions and am very pleased w/ them. Maybe took me 15-20 minutes to install, great product, well priced. Thanks for sharing more!
After watching your video about this overhead rack, i checked their website out and bought one! I used it to mount my CB radio and Whelen siren for the electric air horn and PA system. Thanks for showing us this and the install of it. Quality made !!
@@msburrage74 I just used the bracket that came with a CB radio. I have it twisted to the side and then I ran really big oversized washers on the top side of the rack so they couldn't fall through.
jessie hale gotcha! I actually just went and bought some washers. Sounds like that’s the best way to do it. You know if anyway to secure the cb unit from theft? I am concerned about for when I go door and topless which I do often.
@@msburrage74 Only thing you could do is try to find some security screws that take that Star tool with a hole in the middle but other than that there's nothing you can really do. Maybe get a Phillips screw and then fill it in with silicone so it looks like it's flush that way the average Joe won't try to mess with it but if you need to remove it you can just pick out the silicone?
Nice install video. You hit it as to why you want to remove freedom top for install. You can snug the rack up a little farther. The tabs are not bent to exact angle so feel free to adjust. Do take the time to measure and trim plastic panel for a better fit. You can also run your CB wires behind the plastic panel. Drill a hole or two in plastic panel for wires to come out where you want / need them. Really makes for a clean install. As for Molle bags, some have a Velcro back. They really work with the rack. The bag just rips off Velcro when you need to use the med kit etc. attachment portion of bag stays on rack. Yes, throw away the zip locks. I hope this helps.
Thanks for introducing my to MPS! I have picked up a few of his products. All are amazing and even gave a couple sets of door strap extensions as Christmas presents.
Been trying to find your video on this! Storage is rough sometimes in jeeps and sometimes you want certain tools right at your finger tips versus digging under or behind your seat. Awesome video!
Hey 👋🏻 Just as info for your followers. It holds super strong with the tie wraps. You just have to loosen the back of the hardtop screws to have enough space to fish the tie wraps around the main roll cage tube. Once that done one tie wrap on each side is way plenty to hold it in place strongly 👍🏻 Great vid too 🤙🏻
I've been eyeing one of these for months. Great to see it wouldn't interfere with my switch panel. I'd expect a ziptie in the $50 brand, but NOT on this $150 brand.
Watched your gladiator video, went to the site saw this though that would be awesome for my Rugged Radio and CB. Searched right back to your videos! Thanks ordering this now
I have a similar product. No drilling required. Put it in my soft top. It wouldn't fit in the Wifey's hard top configuration. Heavy. Lawrence's Dad gave it to me. I love it. I did get some squeaking but I fixed it with some leather scraps.
@@JKGearandGadgets You remove the footman loop (not needed on the soft top) and it screws in there. On the back side it has sort of legs that lay across the toll bar. It is secured with hose clamps that slide under the sound bar. It weighs about 5 or 6 lbs. The mole cover goes over it. It has a place for a CB mount as well. I have Cobra 75WX all in one so, not needed
Thnax for the video. Just installed one in my JK. I agree that this "zip ties" are total crap. I understand that they are not structural and just function as an anchor point... but zip ties??? I used a couple of "christmas tree" push pins... way better.... Rugged Radio next!
Was about to go to bed, got to be up in 6hrs to go wheeling lol Good video. Pretty cool, nice rack for chuckin a few things up on top and some storage. Going to see if will work with my softop and probably order one.
Installed one on my 2016 jku. Love it though I connected mine with rivets in the back. Problem is the metal on metal squeaking that it produced after a few weeks and a few thousand miles. So drilled out the rivets and placed a piece of thick felt between the 2 pieces of metal and reattached the back....now its perfect with no noises emanating from the 2 pieces of metal. Even if screwed on as the directions state there would still be the issue of metal on metal noises. So 1 little mod and it is 100% perfect.
Could you drill into the actual roll bar and the mount to secure it? Also, I hate rattles, I would have put some padding between the roll bar and mount.
You could for sure! Drill a hole in the panel and in the roll bar and hit it with a self tapper, I don’t have any rattles, but if it did start rattling then a bit of electrical tape or foam between the 2 would stop it
Very cool. We always like to to buy from small startup companies. The Jeep world seems full of them and you are almost certain to end up with a high quality product/part.
Great video. Zip screwing it to the speaker plastic may not be an option for those who still have roll bar pads. I think that is why he has the zip tie. The pads would raise the rack an inch or so above the speaker pod thing. When I secured my overhead rack, I used galvanized chain link pole clamps. Wrapped around the roll bar and bolted the rack to it in the bolt hole. Just an option/thought.
The JL one is harder to install. Removed freedom panels, lowered windshield, and the hard top had to be backed off as well as the tabs for the freedom panels had to be detached ( located next to the review mirror).
My wife's hates me watching your channel, because I like alot of the products you use and her computer has all them saved until I can purchase them. Thanks Ben 😂
Nice only thing i would do differently would be use rivinuts instead of self taping screws that will come loose. Rivinuts will not a little locktight and forget about it.
I noticed your dome light on and I see you still have the original bulbs. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the LED bulbs. You will be shocked at what an improvement it is.
I've mounted radios overhead before and quickly realized that it is hard to drive and adjust the radio while driving. Looking up and looking at the display did not work for me.
does it look like you could mount your S-tech on the molle panel vs where its at now? i have a cb and a ham mounted in that area and dont wanna give that up instead i would like to mount an S-tech or any other swich pod further back on that overhead molle panel.

Watched your long term review of mods but noticed this wasn’t installed anymore. Still using the mps or have you ditched it? What’s your long term review of this? I just picked up a lightly used one locally for $25 but haven’t installed it yet.
The XJ I previously owned was one of the best all-around, utilitarian Jeeps I've ever had. I wish I never sold it; I could load it with 3/4 of a ton of wood pellets (for the pellet stove), or tow a 3000lb sailboat across the state.

Great little mounting system
I actually got two self-tapping screws and screwed the back down to the crossbar.

another great review!! just one question does the overhead panel rattle at all when driving?
Mine doesn’t, however if it ever does I will just put electrical tape or foam between the panel and the roll bar

Most switch pods have a hollow back, so mounting it on the panel wouldn’t really work. You would have to kinda make your own custom setup
Will this work with the rough country switch pod?
That metal is gonna scuff up the top of your Jeep. Shoulda threw down some of the soft side of velcro. Might help with the possibility of rattle.
Since it’s screwed down I don’t think it will rattle any, but if it does then that is a great idea!
