  • This video addresses the bad Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon 1st gen under hood grounds and the problems caused by them. My truck has had issues with the blower motor, door locks, fuel gauge, and anti theft due to these. The problems seem to become more noticeable on hot day or on long drives where the under hood heat is the worst.

  • @WVRunningDon

    My problem was originally with the blower motor. It was burned out at the block. I found today that the connector for the blower was blown and broke off at the block and would not let the ground connect. I bent the "tooth' part that led to the ground wire inside the block for the blower. The blower is working but now the passenger window doesn't work. It only clicks. I guess I have to find out which tooth uses the ground for the window and check the at connector. I could have done something to that one also. It looked like two wires were having problems when I was in there poking around. GM must have discontinued the part since the dealer or auto parts stores don't have any idea what we need to fix this but you give a pretty good idea and example. Thanks for the short but detailed video.

    The one on the passenger side, I fixed by grinding the paint to bare metal, applying electrical grease and reattach the ground pack.

      I got an 04 3.5 5 with 362,000 miles on it and the last couple of weeks the passlock problem has reared its ugly head, and then today, after the passlock issue first thing, it began the stall with "reduced power" light thing. Arggh. It still runs good, when it runs but I need something I can depend on. I am redoing the grounds today.

      @zenithperigee7442 Год назад

      @@awboat , we don't drive it much but ours is approaching 200K and the only things so far has been the "blower motor resistor burnout"... Then it cut off a couple of very random times like months apart and stored a DTC at some point which someone said meant that the PCM has to be replaced. Idk if that also relates to your "passlock" issue..
      So far, I cleaned up a ground plate my Pops put in place of the factory ground block on the psngr side. I pulled the power, removed the PCM connectors looking for anything abnormal. Never found anything so reconnected them and the truck has been running fine ever since. Even with the EVAP monitor not ready, it recently passed emissions inspection just fine.

    I have a 2005 Colorado crew cab and it has been nothing but a money pit. I bought it because I owned a 95 S10 and I loved that truck. This truck is a big pile of crap. I've changed the HVAC blower resistor & wiring, because I only the high speed and had a burning smell. I replaced the security module on the ignition switch, because sometimes it wouldn't start unless you knew the super secret trick to force the security module to reset itself. I replaced the instrument cluster, it just died and couldn't get it come on. Pulled it out and tested it, nothing. I replaced the headlight switch because they wouldn't turn on at all. Now my windshield wipers quit working and I have no cruise control. If this was a daily driver I would've junked it. I couldn't bring myself to sell someone this lemon even if I hated them. Luckily I own 3 other trucks and a few motorcycles I can drive instead.

      Possibly, if you pull the door panel off and use a meter to see if +12v and ground is getting to the motor it will help diagnose. The switches reverse power for up vs down, so it could also be a driver or passenger window switch problem, or a broken wire.

    My 2007 Chevy Colordo is having a P303 code with number of misfires recorded and overheating in idol. I just replace the coil pack and plug and shows signs of burns on both. I replace the plug twice already. The issue still persists. I am trying not to go to GM cuz they will charge a fortune. The mechanic I deal with gave me a number of causes but he doesn't want to go through every one of them cuz it is a lot of work. I have seen that there has been more people with this problem but for different reasons of cause. The truck isn't losing oil at all but I haven't checked for compression issues on it yet. I keep thinking it might be electrical in nature because I had to change the brake light switch and I found out there was a recall on that switch because of contamination issues after I already changed it myself. I am starting to wonder now if it is just a grounding issue. I changed all of the relays and fuses to eliminate that possibility. I also changed out the Resister for the fan blower because a short in it. Resolved that issue. Still pondering now on the overheating in idol. Any suggestion would be welcome by anyone right now. Also I cleaned the throttle body. I am wondering if the TPS sensor will resolve this issue. Replacing it that is.

    • @philofab
      @philofab  3 года назад

      Pisces Overheating at idle is a cooling problem and will most likely be a bad fan clutch or plugged up radiator. The P0303 is a cylinder 3 misfire. Start by swapping the coil, plug wire, plug, to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows those parts. If it does not try moving the injector to another cylinder. A compression check on that cylinder is a good idea if you have access to the tool. Also, it unlikely a ground issue as it would manifest to more than one cylinder. I hope this helps.

    • @philofab
      @philofab  3 года назад +1

      Pisces Hmmm. Seems like it’s been a pain. I suppose a ground or fuel problem could cause your issues. Either it’s lean creating heat or the ground is causing wonky temp readings. You really need to check the cooling system for combustion gases. A blown head gasket or cracked cylinder wall / head could cause both problems, the misfire and overheating.

    • @pisces1908m
      @pisces1908m 3 года назад

      @@philofab Yea, I just talked to another mechanic today and he did a compression test and it was 215 of 240 of what it was supposed to be. It was slightly low on compression but not extreme. His belief it could be a fuel injection problem, but if not he thinks on could be a bad engine. I am feeling on the fuel injection problem either or computer malfunction because of how it started 2 years ago. Coming back from a store in the month of August and starting the truck at the time. At START, Truck went into extreme high excelleration showing a extreme high temperature as if it was trying to bring down the temp. My fault was that I didn't let it keep doing it and I touched the pedal and it went down and stayed down. From there on it kept on overheating in idol above the middle line slightly while at stop lights or parked. I think now it is more of a communication error between the computer and the fuel Injector.

    • @philofab
      @philofab  3 года назад +1

      Well, if you have moved all the electrical components to other cylinders and the problem did not follow them it must be a mechanical issue with that cylinder unless there is an issue with the injector signal. There is only two wires to an injector, a constant +12v and a negative signal from the ECU. Pretty easy to test both with a DVOM or noid light. If you have not done a cooling system test looking for a cylinder leak or combustion gasses in the coolant it is the next logical step.
