My 2022 sienna has these exact symptoms. Started today on the highway around 70 mph. If I drop to 60 it stabilized. If I accelerated back to 70 it began to raise the temp gauge befor I even got to 70. And again stabilized in seconds after reducing speed to 55-60 on cruise control. Ac was ice cold tried heat and nothing but ice cold ac. Drove home about 30 miles at 55-60 and it stayed at a good temp. Tested it again as I was close to home and same results while accelerating. Found your video and hope it the issue. The new sienna has the same type of system. My sienna has 57k miles It’s a wheelchair Taxi. I’m going to pass your video on to the mechanic to check for air first. Also there were no leaks. Oil was clean and no coolant smell under the hood. Reservoir looked normal.

Currently this worked for my friend, I have the same problem and I have already changed everything, even the engine head, and I am still the same with my Prius.
Are you positive it's actually "overheating? Meaning if the temp sensor says it's overheating it might be a faulty sensor but also if the sensor is in a place where there's air in the system the vapor can actually make the sensor think the car is overheating when it's just the air/vapor in the hose that's over temperature.
Sorry, yes open up the temperature sensor and also elevate the Reservoir and run vehicle in maintenance mode push all the air out fluid will come out also
Going to try this later thanks for putting this out. Mines had the temp light come on slightly blinking and then went completely off so now have no way of knowing what it was about. I seen the coolant raise just a little bit but went right back down .
What indication did you get that told you it was overheating? My cooling fan starts rattling around when mine gets hot. (I believe) I havent noticed a light or and clear signs besides it being hot as hell outside.
If we can figure out how to jump the coolant heat storage pump on our 3rd Gen priuses, that would get air bubbles out quicker, plus that's where most of the Air bubbles stay, can you do a video on that?? There is an Asian guy that does on a 2nd Gen prius as they have same issues with air bubbles, If we can figure that part out, that would really help all of us 3rd gen prius owners, in order to jump it and get it to run we need to find the Relay to it, once that's done, the 2 copper plug pins are where we need to jump it, it will start with car off, and it will force tons of bubbles out of the system.
How did you bleed the system? Did you unscrew the coolant temperature sensor to let the air out or what? You didn't mention it or if you did I didn't hear what you did exactly to bleed the system. Thanks I'm having the exact same problem

my prius gives me sporadic random unpredictable overheating. on hot day, highway, 3 hour nonstop, not problem. same night, 3 hours, cooler weather, i had to stop every rest area. temp warning flashes, and is accompanied with a splash of coolant, that was so bad, it splashed over the drive axle and ended up on the pass side doors. changed water pump thermostat, temp sensor, seems like nothing helps. and it remains sporadic and random. Well, I checked the coolant compression test, passed. checked for exhaust gases in the coolant, negative. What is going on??? Tomorow will check the cylinders compression. and try to remove the damn airlock with the help of ac vacuum pump.

90% of the time it’s from your radiator cap or your overflow cap The cap not only makes sure there is no coolant spillage, but maintains the pressure in the system. If this fails at high temperature, air pockets can form. Air can also enter the system, causing air pockets to be caught inside. Which is why a lot of people see this happening only at higher speeds or when they jump on the freeway the extra heat pressure and momentum. It’s just enough draw in some air. If you’ve already eliminated everything else and you try this I would definitely recommend changing the caps at the same time
Toyota recommends changing out the water pump and thermostat at around 150K miles.... so good thing you did!
