Update 6-29-2020. Car is still running good. Miles are in the low to mid 170,000's don't know exactly and the car is not here right now so I'll try to get the exact miles later. We haven't done any doordash in over a month and I bought my son a 2012 Prius Plug in so now the blue one is my daughters car. It gets driven less as they don't share it anymore. She basically uses it to go work @ the Zoo which is about 20 - 25 miles away about 4 times a week. She only has a permit so we let her drive back and forth but we have to go twice a day as she can't drive by herself so basically it's two trips back and forth about 4 times a week.
Thanks a very informative update, I appreciate it. I have a 2012 Prius V and I have the exact same issue 224k on it. Noticed it started at 220k and progressively has gotten worse. I don't even drive it currently. I am waiting on some quotes to replace the head gasket as I do not have the time to do it myself. Came across your video and thought I would give this a shot. Worst case is a new engine, which is about the same cost as a head job at the dealership so I am weighing that in there also.
@Sha Huss Car is still running good but we haven't driven it much lately. Long story, I bought my daughter a 2006 Camry Solara Convertible so she no longer drives the Prius, I just semi-retired on August 31st 2020 and took all my rental cars home and only rent on Turo now. The Dealership licence I will keep but I am currently looking for a warehouse to store a few cars and just tinker around part time. The Blue Prius will soon be on my rental fleet but since it has over 130 miles Turo won't take it so I will be listing it on HireCar soon but I'm waiting to install a GPS tracking device before I let it go out on rental. HireCar is a peer to peer rental app for people that drive for Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc. so soon people will be driving the crap out of my Prius, I trust it enough to list it there so let's see how that goes.... I'll keep you all posted.
thanks for the update I though I had a blown head gasket on the 2016 Prius ended up being the Heat exchanger so I just bypassed the exhaust heat exchanger thank god no more smoke I was losing coolant not anymore. I was going to look at a product called K-seal I hear good things about this product like you said not the correct way to fix the car but with Covid-19 or without who has an extra 2,500 to 5K just sitting around.
Thank you for the video. I have the CT200h. Same engine. Common problem with these cars. Thank you for looking out for your fellow humans. Much appreciated.
HOw is it now? In general this stuffs will double or triple your actual proper repair cost since you messup the AC box/heater cores, radiators, waterpump, engine blocks, cooling passages, etc.
Thank you so much for this video guide! I’ve scoured the internet for a guide specifically for a Prius when it comes to these head gasket sealer methods and yours is the most comprehensive that I’ve found. I’m gonna try the same thing on my Gen 3 Prius I’m just using a different brand (not blue devil). I love my Prius too much to let her go!
I'm having same problem 2010 prius z200 engine .I cleaned out the EGR cooler intake manifold ..replace plugs .cleaned the injectors..cleaned the EGR valve still clanking .and same p0301 code p0300 .car is no loosing any coolant .bought it two weeks ago sucks .I know I can put that stuff in to seal the gasket but sooner or later it will happen again I know is a big job but got to do the right thing guys a temporary fix will leave you stranded when you least expect it .not good idea ...I don't have the heart to pour that stuff in and fix it just to sell it . I told the guy that sold it to me ,that anything you do wrong to others will come back to you sooner or later I told him you should had told me the truth dude. I know I'm stuck with it now. God sees everything nothing scape His eyes ...and like I've said cheap fix and sell it to someone else won't work for me, I Can't see anyone going through same thing I'm going through. Just to get even and let someone else get the same problem.....be wise love your fellow brother. Treat others the way you want to be treated...blessings
Thank you for taking the time and posting a message that many of us will wholeheartedly agree on. Moral of the story: help others instead of screwing them over.
have same problem with my prius. but used Bars head gasket sealer 1111. placed prius in maintenace mode put in the coolant overflow tank let idle for 15 minutes, shut off and let cool down. done. Bars stop leak stays in coolant. one month and 1000 miles later runs great.
the bars stop leak will last four months until coolant is lost. I have repeated this every four months with a complete coolant flush each time and using half of the bars stop leak bottle over the past year.
@@GrindingwithLevi the head gasket leak started back in july 2021 and I use the bars head gasket stop leak every four months. I flush the radiator every time I use this. I added the antifreeze concrete directly and burned up two water pumps due to it being too thick. I now only use the 50/50 antifreeze. I used the k seal I seen on the tv show road kill six months ago and appears to be better than bars product.
Thanks for this awesome video, Orlando. I'm on my 3rd Prius (a 2018 Prius Two Eco). Before that, I had a 2010 Prius Four and a 2013 Prius v. I LOVE these cars.
If you’re in a pinch the head gasket sealer will work for awhile but it will ultimately still fail. The sealer then clogs the passageways and radiator as well. Best to just replace head gasket. Otherwise your just prolonging the problem. I’ve replaced 4 of these head gaskets, it’s fairly easy. Gasket masters have some great videos on how to do it.
As soon as the coolant leak stops, drain all the coolant out that might contain the gasket sealer. Sometimes the heater core has to be flushed too. Clean the intake, egr pipe/cooler. Also if the coolant tank plastic looks yellow, replace it too. It should be white like the inverter coolant reservoir.
@@julian-H47This. I just diy the headgasket this week. Used K seal before and it did not clog anything. Still bad to leave in there but it’s true that it didn’t sludge up or clogs.
Update - 4/19/2020. The car is currently being used to deliver with DoorDash and we are putting about 1200 miles a week on it. Heat works, everything works perfect, avg mpg 46 to 49 per tank. Changed the oil for 0-20 full Synthetic, changed the cabin and air filters and that's it. Car runs like new and is a money maker. I'll post another update in a couple of months or earlier if the head fails. Also, check out Scotty Kilmore on youtube. Very good, honest info on all things car/mechanic related. Stay safe and Best Wishes!!

I used a bottle of Steel Seal to fix my head gasket, drained the coolant, removed the thermostat, flushed the cooling system really good, Then use a radiator cleaner to clean the cooling system , Make sure to flush out all the cleaner 100%, When engine is 100% cold add steel seal with distilled water, turn heater on high & let idle for 30 mins with the radiator cap off........Let it cool for 1 hour the let idle again for 30 mins with the radiator cap on...........next morning let it idle for another 30 mins then removed all water from the system to let the steel seal cure for 24 hours, Replace the thermostat, fill with coolant and your good to go. Mine has been running perfect for 70k miles now as i use the car for uber & lyft, Only cost me about $120 total.
Did you buy steel seal from amazon ? I am also uber driver this happened pretty much cause we be driving so much in traffic the head gasket wears itself out i watched a nice video on why this only happens on hybrids
I have misfire and the shop told me coolant in cyl. 4. They told me fix is $3k and used engine from japan is $4k. Would you mind tell me does the steel seal still working. My car still run but misfire but CEL only turn one when it is really rough. Thanks for helping.
wow thanks a lot! the most useful video on youtube! never imagined head gasked can be fixed this way!!! i didnt tried it yet ... i hope i can find it in my country ...
Dude, mine did this. I changes the ignition coils, plugs, cleaned the EGR pipe, valve and cooler, and intake manifold. Now it only does it after I've been driving 20 minutes. Wont do it when cold. So, this might be my deal too. No coolant in the oil yet.
@@levijessegonzalez3629 it was the head gasket. Caused by a blockage in the coolant hose somewhere. And because I didn't catch it time, it overheated BIG TIME. Limped to a mechanic and had to change the cooling system as well as the head gasket. That was BIG MONEY. But I did it. Cost about $4,000. That was 50,000 miles ago. Still running great though. 250K miles now and still has original battery. The car is awesome. If I had taken it to a mechanic they might have caught it and fixed it. But I don't regret repairing it. Once I get settled in a car, I'd rather just keep it. Good luck to you. The cooling system cools both the electric syst and the engine. So it's very complicated. Dealership wanted $7,000 for the repair. I found a Toyota expert local to Maryland that gave me a great deal.
@@afdave7 Wow. My water pump went bad. Around that time I was have occasional rough starts only on cold starts...replaced the water pump (it possibly overheated?) and the water pump was perfect. but then the shakes were still there... I then got a check engine light for the p0300 multiple cylinder misfires... So I completely stopped driving it and I am currently cleaning the manifold, EGR, and replacing the spark plugs ignition coils and injectors (bought all of them OEM for $180). If that ALL doesn't work, then I'm unsure weather to do what he is suggesting in the video or do the dreaded head gasket DIY!
@@afdave7 how do I know if my cooling system is bad? Ive been live monitoring the coolant temperature post water pump repair (before the current check engine light cylinder issue) and it stays at 185-198° which is normal. So you think my coolant system is ok?
@@levijessegonzalez3629 it sounds like it's fine. I think we have similar symptoms but a different problem. Sorry I can't help. Thenoverheat issue in my car was obvious and I ignored it. You probably have something different. Best of luck
Thank you for the video. I have a 2010 Prius, and I have the same problem. I took it to the dealer and that's the problem than they came up with. I'll give Thermagasket a try, Thanks so much for this video!!!
imma try this. just did my head gasket last week and this week it's knocking again. i hope it's because i didn't get the head machined I'm going to probably do it again. with new bolts and gasket and machine shop this time.
Hey thanks for the video I I also think the Prius is the best car in the world Got 2014 prius p0101 losing coolant too so thinking of Blue Devil or Thermagasket before removing the gasket
If you still have the Prius and still have the same problem you might want to try K-seal I never tried it but great reviews on Amazon but they sell it at Advance, auto zone and I'm guessing Walmart. good luck
Don't do stupid things for head gasket. It won't last long and you ruin heater cores, radiator, waterpump, etc. Heater core job is 14 hours, more than the head gasket. You will have to remove the AC box and additional 5 h labor for AC vacuum and recharge refrigerant with special AC oil, non conductive ND11. It is hell a lot more problems by doing this K-seals unless you will trade it in to Stealership right away
@@truckerjay4754 Oh yeah, that heat exchanger also cost a lot of money, easily $2000 with the catalytic converter unit replacement. Don't ever put anything but Toyota SLLC only in any Toyota car. There is a recall or just TSB about that heat exchanger. If it is a recall, you can get it fixed for free, if it is TSB, probably you still can get it up to 8 years 80k miles, Federal Emission Law., because it includes catalytic converter as one unit.
car still running good? my water pump went out. I replaced it. and around that time I got intermittent shakes but not all the time only on cold startups. got first cylinder and also 3rd and sometimes 4th codes. I bought plugs, injectors and coils going to replace all of it (147k. they need replacing anyway). going to clean the EGR and manifold. If ALL that doesn't work, then I will do what you say with this stuff.
It could be the EGR is really clogged up that will cause a misfire too. But you right about the gasket issues. I just did a video on cleaning the EGR it's kind of a pain too
@@SurferTy be wary of gasket sealer unless your prepared to get a new engine. if enough of it goes into the cylinder it will score up the rings and walls as it is abrasive. it may give your more time. I just changed the headgasket on mine Friday. was about a 9 hour job. I could do it in 6 next time probably but what a pain. I will be locking my cams with rags first next time. quite a bit of time to just scrape and prep all gasket areas. I was running without my o ring on the coolant cap for 2 weeks. almost solves the issue. But car will boil coolant if hot in ran hard. Better than coolant hydro locking engine though.
@@TimZ007 yea. It’s a tough call. I am not going to to the head gasket myself. With quotes at $1,500. I figure i could buy another engine and swap for $2,500. Even if i replace the gasket. The engine head could be warped. Then i still have to engine swap.
Thank you Orlando .. You are inspiring .. you give me great advice .. The engine mixes oil and water .. I used the Blue Devil two weeks ago .. Guess what !! It’s worked 🤪 Thanks a lot, Orlando
Francisco Cendejas i kinda don’t even want to bother taking the thermostat out. So with this sealant. All you do is put it in the coolant reservoir? If so then what?
“To make a long story short”. Famous last words!!! I’m 5 minutes into your video and just heard the word THERMOGASKET. There are 8 minutes left in your video that I won’t be watching. For those of you wanting a good solution to this same problem I recently used a product called Bar’s Leaks Head Gasket Sealer. It worked for 70 percent of the people on AMAZON based on their verified purchase. I used the carbon fiber version. About 30 dollars for the 38 ounce can. Only used half the container. This man is nice but can he ramble on 😝 UPDATE.... my 2010 Prius has about 198,000 miles and since adding the Bar’s Leak Stop I’ve driven another 1100 miles with no check engine light or engine shakes. Drives great 🤞Heater still working fine!
Hi Drew. Glad your $30 bottle worked for you. I don't really give two shits about Thermogasket over any other product but it worked for me and I'm a happy camper. Sorry if my rambling bored you. Just checked your channel... 6 videos, 1 like?? Maybe you should ramble and help people on your videos instead of posting an hour and 20 minute boring partie video with no likes or 27 minutes of kids kayaking with no likes..... Or 18 minutes of some guy retiring.. BOOOORING!! I'm sure your a nice guy but if you live in a glass house..... You know the rest. 😂
Orlando Rodriguez Update•••. My car rattling problem returned after 2500 miles. Random engine misfires now and #2 misfire. I cleaned the EGR cooler and EGR valve but problem persists. The only thing left to do is clean intake manifold. After that if problem persists I’m going scrap it with 201,000 miles.
Thank you for posting the video. We have a 2010 Prius with 342,000km on it has ran great up to now. We did have the rattling going on didn't know what it was but when the heat stopped (we live in Canada) we found out coolant was leaking. Once you did this repair did the heater work again? Thanks again for posting the video!!
Hey Orlando, thank you for the video, but question is did you reflush the system 2 weeks after adding Thermagasket Head & Block Treatment Kit as some recommend or did you just keep it in there??? There are sayings if left too long it will clog the small passages in the cooling system! Please keep us updated... Thank you...
Hello. I left in in there for about 3 or 4 weeks but I ended up emptying it out and refilling it with 50/50 coolant as the car was taking too long to warm up in the Colorado weather. Not exactly a thorough flush but close enough.
so you removed the engine waterpump's thermostat as a safety precaution against it being damaged by the thermagasket mixture. it take a little cry and some tight spot moments to remove that thermostat that but a good idea if you dont want to damage sensitive parts.
Yes I did. It was taking longer than I expected to warm up so I had to leave the car running too long before I could drive it on really cold days. So far still running strong.
How is the car doing? Any updates? I’m having the same situation with my 2010 Prius. I don’t have the money for a motor swap or a head gasket repair. I need to buy a bottle of this head gasket repair.
Mr Latnemis I have same car. Had same problems. Purchased Bar’s HG-1 Head Gasket Sealer. It’s been 775 miles now since adding it to radiator. A 30 dollar fix purchased from Amazon. So happy
Sorry I took so long to answer. car is running great, very happy. I did have to put the thermostat back in as it was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado Winter. No more check engine lights, no more shudder. I am one happy camper!!!!! Best wishes!!
Long Story short, I put the Bars head gasket sealer on January 9, 2020 in my 2010 Prius (with out the thermostat) and used water only (not coolant). Test drove it for 3 weeks and no more Engine Jumping. Everything worked fine except the engine light came on due to the thermostat not being in the motor. ( I checked it with the autozone Code Reader they provide). So I put the thermostat back in with coolant and about a week and a half later my Prius started to stall on the freeway on the way to work. My dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree! Especially the TRIANGLE OF DEATH 💀 also said CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. So I had it towed home and checked it with the Code Reader and it gave me Water Pump Code. ( sorry I don’t remember the codes). So I bought a $440 water pump from Autozone with Lifetime Warranty and put it in my car WITHOUT the thermostat. And so far the car is running ok except with the check engine light on because of the thermostat. ...and that’s where I’m at right now. (Sorry for the so call short story)😐
@@mrlatnemis1849 Can't see why the check engine light for no thermostat. I ran it without a thermostat for 2 months no issue. Only reason I put it in was because it was taking too long to warm up. Regardless, glad you are running well again.

I use to change out the synthetic oil every five thousand miles, but then started stretching it to like 7,000. Big mistake. The Prius got use to having it done every 5,000. 195,000, and now had multiple misfires. Change your synthetic, yes, even synthetic, each 5,000 miles. Now I've spent money on coils, plugs, MAF, etc.
Hi Donald. Car is running flawlessly. No more shakes no more engine lights. I did have to reinstall the thermostat as it was taking forever for the car to warm up in the Colorado winter. Best of luck to you
Heater had stopped working because I was losing coolant. Once the level falls below a certain point the heater lines don't pickup coolant to circulate through the heater core so no heat unless you keep adding coolant.
My Prius was having this knocking sound problem sometime around 160k miles. I took it in and the guy replaced all the spark plugs and ignition coils for #2 & #4. Next day... knocking sound again! That was Oct 26th. Took it in again and that's when he told me I've got a blow head gasket. Then strangely enough, the knocking sound stopped happening for about 3 weeks. Now it's happening almost daily but it's pretty mild. Only once did it sustain for about 5-10 seconds. The check engine light came on the other night but went away the next day! I know I've got to repair or replace but maybe this will be a temporary fix!
Jeff Wessman I bought on Amazon for 30.00. Get the HG-1 version. It’s got carbon fibers. I got the 38 ounce size. Only used half of it as recommended for my coolant capacity. Follow all the directions and leave it in. Do not drain it out after. My heater is working fine 775 miles later.
I just bought some Thermagasket for my 2013 Prius 3rd gen. 178,000 miles, cylinder 2 & 4 are the issue. Let's hope this stuff works, if I can get at least 10k additional miles I'll be very happy with the product.
@@Geeklydriven It’s been surprisingly well, I’ve been running on it for 4 days strong, no more check engine light and it’s running smooth. Very happy with it so far
Hi Orlando, , My 2011 Prius has 174000 Miles, My Question to you is, Piston's 1 and 4 are misfiring and It burns oil, wondering if also this could be the head gasket? and the car sometimes does that shake and rattle when first started. I have installed a catch can from the PCV valve to the Catch Can. I usually have to empty it every 1000 miles or so. Its not full but there is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of oil in the can. Love to hear for your best answer on this, Thanks.
Sorry Andrew, I have no good answer for you. There is a product out there you can buy @ autozone or some other parts stores and it's a head gasket leak checker. Basically a blue liquid that turns green if it detects exhaust in the cooling system, not expensive and maybe worth a try. Good luck.
Bite the bullet and DIY head gasket replacement. Check out gasket masters video on step by step instructions on gen 3 prius head gasket replacment. It's labor intensive, but definitely a do-able project for average handy person.
Check oil if it's milky in the dipstick or oil cap that's a sign. Are you loosing coolant. Do a leak down test. Check inside cylinders with a borescope in the spark plug holes might get lucky an see antifreeze inside especially if car has been sitting for days or weeks. Stick a long rod or screwdriver to detect moisture in tip of object you are using inside the spark plug hole or Look inside spark plug hole with a flashlight if you don't have a borescope.
Hey Orlando...I have the same 2010 Prius as you got. I got a water pump check engine light 3 days ago. I used the Troque pro to clear the engine light, it didn't come back yesterday but it just came up today but with a different code Cylinder 1 mis-fire. Do you think its the water pump gone bad that cause engine over heat that gives a mis-fire code? I got heat inside the cabin though. My coolant is NOT leaking. Should I just replace the water pump that will solve the mis-fire problem too?
Sorry I took so long to answer. If you have a misfire and you are not losing coolant at all, it should be either a coil or a plug. Change the plugs to see what happens, if that doesn't fix it just buy 1 coil for the bad cylinder. Regarding the water pump, I don't think it has anything to do with the misfire but i would definitely replace it as you don't want the car or the inverter to overheat. That would cause major problems!! Good Luck!
Super happy so far. I'll make a follow up video and post it today. I did end up reinstalling the thermostat as it was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter. Other than that it been perfect.
Engine Light was on as I broke the knock sensor wire. I fixed the wire, cleared the code and it never came back. I did reinstall the thermostat as the car was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter. So far very happy.
I believe it is dead now and cost 3x more to fix than proper head gasket job.
@@mrpistonrecaro6483 Yes, if you live in a shithole without a heater in cold winter. Or southern poor Europe, India, Malaysia, or other tropical countries that need no heater. But your water pump will still grind this crap and eventually fail the whole engine even more, the radiator will not work efficiently, heat exchanger on the exhaust will be another issue. Man, if you are poor, do not get hybrid, get a bicycle. Besides that, this crap sealer will not hold for long enough time.
Hi, before u used the product did u empty the system then use the product or was there any amount of coolant left in the system while running the engine? Just wanna know the procedure, tnx
Sorry for the late reply. I flushed the whole cooling system. You really need to get all the coolant out and take out the thermostat so that it works right. I forgot to buy coolant flush so I used baking soda and vinegar to flush everything out. Still driving like a million bucks today!
I’m in the same situation my car is at the shop overnight right now cylinder 1 misfire. What do you suggest I do and how quickly wilt he misfire stop after?
drew michael well if you read my comment, it says spark plugs fixed my problem. I didn’t have a coolant leak. I had old spark plus from the previous owner that caused the misfire. My shakey startups and the misfire code that came soon after was alllllll solely related to a bad spark plug in cylinder one causing misfire code on cylinder 1. I then sold the vehicle after it operated flawlessly for 1000 miles and 20 start ups with zero issues whatsoever. Had nothing to do with the head gasket or coolant.
Robert P Easy does it fellow Prius owner. I was using your post as an opportunity to provide others with a solution to more serious issues such as head gasket leaks. Didn’t mean to steal your thunder! 😃
drew michael I’m not a fellow Prius owner, once again, you didn’t read my comment. if you read my comment you’d know I don’t own a Prius. I sold it. Hold on I'm confused. So you flushed out the coolant with baking soda/vinegar and then water, then you put the thermagasket in and ran the engine for an hour, and then what? You have to empty out the thermagasket first, and then put the coolant in, or the coolant goes in with the thermagasket still in there?
I emptied it out and put 50/50 coolant in it. Not exactly a thorough flush but close enough. So far so good. As of today 5/18.2020 car is running strong.
Yes. I listed the car on hyrecar and it's been rented out for 4 days so far. I think my sons 2012 prius is starting to show the same symptoms so I plan to make a better video when I fix it. I'll post it here if/when I do.

lol let me tell you. This problem is not exclusive to the 3rd gen. I have the exact same issue on my 01 Prius. the 08 Prius has the same engine but no problem with the head gasket. however, they both don't hold oil very long. But my 01 has that terrible shutter every now and then too. Also a misfire on cylinder #1 when it happens. I've replaced the coils plugs and injectors. I've only ever used full synthetic oil on all my cars. I may consider replacing the head gasket. but its been like that for over 4yrs.
Still running good. I listed it on hyrecar and it's been rented out 4 days so far. My sons 2012 just gave me the same code about 2 days ago and was low on coolant so it looks like I'll be doing the same thing to his car soon. I'll keep you all posted.

DO NOT DO THIS to your Prius IF you plan on keeping the car!!! Bought ours brand new in 2013 and it has 250K miles, but recently developed the Bad Head Gasket “shakes” issue. Thankfully found Gasket Masters videos BEFORE seeing this guys so-called “fix”. Am in process of doing GM’s excellent REAL fix. Correcting the issues is an involved project but not overly expensive DIY, unless you have other problems like a bad water pump. Also fixed/cleaned my EGR/coolant loop and throttle body/intake manifold, which were nearly blocked with carbon/soot. All in, I will spend about 3 days & $300 to have a vehicle that should last ANOTHER 250K miles. BTW in many cities GM can do the real fix in half a day for allot less than $2000. They also have videos that show what you do to an engine when you use this guys liquid “used car salesman trick”.
Maybe Scott. However with my “real fix”, the car now runs buttery smooth with better than brand new car mpg numbers. Not sure I’d spend this much in an unknown Prius. However, we have driven this one every day (great for a battery) over its long life in a super dry Arizona climate. So with this work I’d say it has a good chance of making it to 1/2 a million miles. Besides the 2 gal of Purple Power cleaning and head gasket kit, my total OTD cost was more because I did it right. The final bill included a professional machine shop $400 rebuild of the head, then all new head bolts, fuel injectors, ignition coils, NGK plugs, thermostat/housing, water pump and filters/fluids (all generic parts were purchased via Amazon at a huge discount to OEM costs). These totaled a little less than $600. Once the parts were accumulated, the machine shop took a week & my DIY work took another. The car now runs so well, we put on new Hankook tires from Discount Tire and the wife loves her “new” Prius! BTW anyone contemplating this video’s “quick liquid fix” should watch that GM video showing what the sealant stuff does to the inside of an engine. Great for a used car lot mechanic. However for a car one intends on keeping, no thanks!
Hi. I retired recently and had no more use for the car. Sent it along with all my other cars to the auction and sold 10 days ago. It ran well for the time I had it. Don't know how long it will last but it served me well.
@@levijessegonzalez3629 I hope you do not put them too much. Do flush several times, you should have no problem. The particles are so small, it will be clogged at one point but if it does not, it is never too late. Just flush several times with pure water, maybe 2-3 times from the drain of the radiator. The water pump has a plastic propeller with a nylon bearing and is pretty soft. Adding stop leaks is not a good idea for your water pump. Stop leaks is for disposable car that you do not want to put more money and want to dump the car after it stop running.
saw somewhere the head gasket problem related to screws getting loose ,anyone has experience using head gasket seal and tighten head screws same time? Here in Ireland these are like $4-5000 now because this problem
People DO NOT fill your radiator with stop leak garbage. It may seal the head gasket temporarily but it will also plug the fine ports in the engine , radiator and heater core. This will cost you so much more money later when you have to replace all the other parts it plugs up. I only would use that garbage if I was stranded in a area I had no way of getting home. Also his lower radiator hose clamp isn't fully on the thermostat, that will be a issue for sure.
Just use butt connectors it's easy you don't need a harness bud. Get a little wind proof lighter and some strips and crimp, butt connect the wires together and heat shrink the butt connectors. My head is blown too I just scoped my cylinders and there's oil in 2 of the cylinders.
Thanks for the tip. I ended up fixing the harness myself my watching videos on RUclips. And connecting it back together. I also had put the thermostat back in as the car was taking too long the heat up especially below 20 degrees Fahrenheit here in Colorado. Other than that I'm happy as hell.
I just totalled my 09 Prius that was damaged from the Derecho storm. But the battery was on it's way out with 215,897 miles on it. I went from getting 50 MPG 4 years ago to now 31MPG. The thing is about Hybrid cars, they do turn into a money pit as they age. The battery replacement cost for a brand new battery will likely be more than what the car is worth. I ended up replacing the Prius with a 2006 Camry SE instead.
@@helpyourfellowhuman Yeah Hybrids are great if you buy them new. You take a gamble buying a used one. They aren't cheap to fix out of warranty as the Hybrid components on Hybrids are very expensive once they do break down as they age. They are much more complex cars thats in between a conventional gasoline car and an electric car. The Inverter alone is over $4,000. The Camy does get great gas milage though. But gas is still cheap.
Sorry I took so long to reply. So far the car is running great, no more check engine lights no more shudder the only thing I did have to do but replace the thermostat as I had left it out because I'm lazy but it was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter cold. Other than that I'm loving it..
@@levijessegonzalez3629 my car is a 2010 toyota prius. It has basicly 4 cylinders but they are not called cylinders but something else. The error code show missfires on no. 1. Well this was not that part os my car rmthat needed relpacing but carbon was built up so much in the CGR valve and in intake manafold but I am very suprised it was running!!! I hope this answers your question.
I've replaced my engine and I'm still having this problem. My car rattles when it starts and the guy who replaced the engine said it's the engine mount. I just don';t know what to do from here. I already paid for the used engine.
It's going to be you're engine mounts but which ones pop you're hood hand have someone watch you're engine once you turn it on make sure you get the right engine mounts not a fun job good lick.
Maybe he never replace engine? Or got an engine that had the same issue since it seems to be a common problem. Also was the original engine diagnose correctly? A leak down test can be used to see if a cylinder is leaking and from where. Was there mixture of coolant in the oil? Where you loosing coolant or no heat inside the car. Also a borescope can be used to look inside cylinder that's misfiring, top of piston will probably have different pattern of carbon deposits if antifreeze is entering or look wet. Also might get lucky and see antifreeze inside, especially if car has been sitting for days or weeks. Check spark plugs for clues also. If you don't have a borescope try looking in there with a flashlight or stick a rod to see if it gets some moisture in the tip in the misfiring cylinder/s
Thanks for the video, Orlando Rodriguez. It helps all of us try to fix these problems, so I'm greatful for the solution you provided. However, I've had the engine knocking problem for months at low RPM at startup or after stop signs/red lights. I replaced spark plugs and all iginiton coils, and also crankshaft sensor (because the engine finally died with triangle light). I go it rolling again, after all that, but the shaking still exists. Another more likely problem is EGR related as seen in this video. I'll be persuing this solution: ruclips.net/video/ndnrYbpVclo/видео.html
I have a 2001 Prius losing coolant no lights yet but havnt got a reading yet going to get one now
@@jamiehorne9521 Good Luck!! Hope it works out good for you.
Thank you so much for this video guide! I’ve scoured the internet for a guide specifically for a Prius when it comes to these head gasket sealer methods and yours is the most comprehensive that I’ve found. Which brand and any update?
Treat others the way you want to be treated...blessings

have same problem with my prius. but used Bars head gasket sealer 1111. placed prius in maintenace mode put in the coolant overflow tank let idle for 15 minutes, shut off and let cool down. done. Bars stop leak stays in coolant. one month and 1000 miles later runs great.
Any updates?
the bars stop leak will last four months until coolant is lost. I have repeated this every four months with a complete coolant flush each time and using half of the bars stop leak bottle over the past year.

@@GrindingwithLevi the head gasket leak started back in july 2021 and I use the bars head gasket stop leak every four months. I flush the radiator every time I use this. I used the k seal I seen on the tv show road kill six months ago and appears to be better than bars product.

False. Wont clog radiator passages bc it only crystallizes hardens when it meets hot exhaust gasses

Dude, mine did this. I changes the ignition coils, plugs, cleaned the EGR pipe, valve and cooler, and intake manifold. Now it only does it after I've been driving 20 minutes. Wont do it when cold. So, this might be my deal too. No coolant in the oil yet.
you figured out what the problem is?

How many miles did the fix last for?
i agree with you 100% you can’t beat a prius
I use to change out the synthetic oil every five thousand miles, but then started stretching it to like 7,000. Big mistake. The Prius got use to having it done every 5,000. 195,000, and now had multiple misfires. Change your synthetic, yes, even synthetic, each 5,000 miles. Now I've spent money on coils, plugs, MAF, etc.
I'm broken down, right now. P0302. Don't feel like tearing out the wiper cowl crap, all over again. Uhhhgggg! Maybe I'll just throw another plug in?

Hi Orlando, is it still working for the Prius?
Hey bud so what part of that fixed your heat issues?
Its simple to replace a gasket
Jeff Wessman I have same car 198,000. Same issues. Fixed with Bar’s Leak HG-1 on Amazon. 775 miles later and still running great. Almost 200,000 now
Mr Yusuf No sir it is not!
@@drewmichael4014 Thanks Drew. I've got a bottle. This weekend I'll try it out!
Do you have photo of this Products you used I have hard time to find out, thanks

I just bought some Thermagasket for my 2013 Prius 3rd gen. 178,000 miles, cylinder 2 & 4 are the issue. Let's hope this stuff works, if I can get at least 10k additional miles I'll be very happy with the product.
did it work?
@@Geeklydriven It’s been surprisingly well, I’ve been running on it for 4 days strong, no more check engine light and it’s running smooth. Very happy with it so far
@@ripplerfx Awesome!! Hope it lasts a very long time.
I noticed you made the updated comment on how it's still running but did it clog up your heater core where it's not getting heat into the car or not?
No heater core problems so far.
I might have that problem since I just cleaned the egr and still having a misfire in cyl 1 so a few more diag and if anything I’m gonna try that stuff
Good Luck!
I would've removed a radiator hose to pour the product inside it to ensure all of it mixed in with the coolant.
Good Idea. I didn't even think of that.
What year is that Prius?
Any updates on miles
How is it going now?
Super happy so far. I'll make a follow up video and post it today. I did end up reinstalling the thermostat as it was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter. Other than that it been perfect.
@@helpyourfellowhuman mine has a problem that it's complaining about the water pump voltage being out of range? Not sure what that's about
Your check engine light is on and you have a ready light. Did you clear the code?
Engine Light was on as I broke the knock sensor wire. I fixed the wire, cleared the code and it never came back. I did reinstall the thermostat as the car was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter. So far very happy.
Thanks I was about to buy a engine I drive for postmates.
can you give us an update and how many miles have you driven since the repair? Is it working with thermostat ?
I believe it is dead now and cost 3x more to fix than proper head gasket job.
@@rondhole you can always bypass the heater core. No need to be so drastic
Please how do you write or spell the product? Thermal gasket, thermo gasket or???????????? Thanks
Thermagasket.
Cars Totaller, it will destroy your engine, heater cores, radiator, waterpump, etc. and cost you 2-3x more than just head gasket job.
I’m in the same situation my car is at the shop overnight right now cylinder 1 misfire. What do you suggest I do and how quickly wilt he misfire stop after?
Spark plugs fixed my problem.
Robert P Check your oil after driving by examining dipstick. Will be slightly milky due to coolant leak. Probably low on coolant. Bar’s Leak Stop HG-1
drew michael well if you read my comment, it says spark plugs fixed my problem.
I sold it. Read the comment your replying to next time. you put my name in your comment and told me to do something that had nothing to do with my issue without reading what I said. I sold my Prius already and mine had nothing to do with coolant. Next time make a general comment don’t click to reply to someone’s account using my name to talk about an issue that has nothing to do with me. otherwise it makes you look like you can’t read or know how to make a general comment when you use my account in your comment to make a general suggestion.
Hi I am having this problem. I am hoping it's t not the head gasket. This is exactly how is going on with my 2013 prius. Where are you located?
Sorry to hear Tammy. Hope you get it fixed for cheap. Colorado Springs.
Use Moroso ceramic seal to fix head gaskets, Its $25 & they use it on actual race cars
Do I pour it in the coolant reservoir on a Prius?
@@chadalahio8266you have to bypass the thermostat, otherwise it will clogh things up
Still running?
Hold on I'm confused.
So you flushed out the coolant with baking soda/vinegar and then water, then you put the thermagasket in and ran the engine for an hour, and then what? You have to empty out the thermagasket first, and then put the coolant in, or the coolant goes in with the thermagasket still in there?
I emptied it out and put 50/50 coolant in it. Not exactly a thorough flush but close enough. So far so good. As of today 5/18.2020 car is running strong.
Is the fix still working for you Orlando

I think misfire one is what I have I hear clicking in the engine and losing coolant ony 01 does yours lose coolant as well?
Gen1 is not worth to fix, sell it as a scrap or parts. MOre cost effective. 1st Gen has too much problems
Is it still working im curious

Hey man. Hopefully still good? I have problem with my Prius too. I think it’s the head gasket
Still running good. I listed it on hyrecar and it's been rented out 4 days so far. My sons 2012 just gave me the same code about 2 days ago and was low on coolant so it looks like I'll be doing the same thing to his car soon. I'll keep you all posted.

About purchase this now. At the dealer and the want 3600 bucks to repair the head gasket. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Best of luck to you brother. Give it a shot. 🤞🤞🤞
They also have videos that show what you do to an engine when you use this guys liquid “used car salesman trick”.
your car will not last 250k more miles
So the real test, how is the car now 6 months, 1 year, & further down the road?
Hi. I retired recently and had no more use for the car. Sent it along with all my other cars to the auction and sold 10 days ago. It ran well for the time I had it. Don't know how long it will last but it served me well.

@@rondhole good point
@@rondhole how quickly will it ruin heater core / water pump? I just replaced my water pump. want to do what he did in the video
My head gasket is leaking oil into the cylinder. This wouldn't help me.
It should be nice if you show what did you used, what brand at least show the box. Search thermo gasket it didn't show anything.
saw somewhere the head gasket problem related to screws getting loose ,anyone has experience using head gasket seal and tighten head screws same time? Here in Ireland these are like $4-5000 now because this problem
People DO NOT fill your radiator with stop leak garbage. It may seal the head gasket temporarily but it will also plug the fine ports in the engine , radiator and heater core. This will cost you so much more money later when you have to replace all the other parts it plugs up. I only would use that garbage if I was stranded in a area I had no way of getting home. Also his lower radiator hose clamp isn't fully on the thermostat, that will be a issue for sure.
My car only overheats on the freeway. Pulse and glide kept it under temps.
Hi sir, can you provide me with some videos to show up how to replace the whole ABS module of Prius 2102.

Just use butt connectors it's easy you don't need a harness bud. Get a little wind proof lighter and some strips and crimp, butt connect the wires together and heat shrink the butt connectors. My head is blown too I just scoped my cylinders and there's oil in 2 of the cylinders.
Show the diy to replace gasket its easy
Thanks for the tip. I ended up fixing the harness myself my watching videos on RUclips. And connecting it back together. I also had put the thermostat back in as the car was taking too long the heat up especially below 20 degrees Fahrenheit here in Colorado. Other than that I'm happy as hell.
Thanks for sharing.
bad idea disconnect the heater, it clogged my heater core felt heavy after i remove heater core.
I have cylinder 1 misfire but the car is not dying.
Sounds like something Scotty Kilmore would say. Glad to hear that you bought a Camry. Those things run forever!!
Any updates?
Sorry I took so long to reply. So far the car is running great, no more check engine lights no more shudder the only thing I did have to do but replace the thermostat as I had left it out because I'm lazy but it was taking forever to warm up in the Colorado winter cold. I've replaced my engine and I'm still having this problem. My car rattles when it starts and the guy who replaced the engine said it's the engine mount. I just don';t know what to do from here. I already paid for the used engine.
Replace the head gasket is the only solution, it's a weekend project with some basic set of tools.
Mechanic is lying... if iys just a engine mount then replace it...
$100 to fix a Prius head gasket?!? That’s a lot of tampons going into that car.
Radiator and hiter probably cloged
that's not a fix it is just a bandage and it will create more problems to your coolant system like heater core clogged up
