2012 Toyota Prius overheating heater also not hot how to bleed the air from coolant system part 3
2012 Toyota Prius started to constantly overheat at about 140,000 miles couldn't figure out what the reason was, we changed The thermostat didn't help, changed the water pump, still didn't help, we checked the coolant fans and the temperature sensors, we decided to test the theory of Toyota Prius's having a problem with air in the coolant system and if you bleed it out, it will fix the overheating problem. It was also causing the heater to not work correctly and heater would not blow very hot, This is part one of three videos on this test, so make sure you watch them all !

    HELP PLEASE. 2012 prius, 150,000 miles. random sporadic unpredictable overheating since june, finally Toyota determined it is a HG. got a set from rockauto, viktor reinz. The original HG appeared OK, nothing massive. Talked to a specialist, who convinced me that the leak is minor, and invisible, but enough to send exhaust gases into the coolant sometimes. Test for exhaust gases in coolant was negative. Also, coolant was clear pink, no sediment, no mud, no discoloration. Anyway, I just finished the job, and the overheating is now full time. test driving with autel mk808bt watching temperature and pump revolution. temperature was 80+ and then went all the way to 101. I stopped several times to let temperature go down to 90 to come back home. Even at 101 the radiator fans were OFF. They are supposed to turn on at 92 or 95. If I turn the AC on, then they begin to spin, meaning they are not busted, and the relays are OK. I was very careful to reconnect all electrical wires. Did I miss any? I made detailed description in my car logbook of every simple step I took. I worked slowly and meticulously. Today took apart and flushed the radiators with garden hose <I was looking for disconnected temperature sensors, did not see any>. Coolant and water came out clean. No sediments, no deposits. Should I prepare a publication for the SAE International Journal of Engines? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    i had intermittent sporadic random overheating accompanied with a burst of coolant over the overflow on the plastic tank. toyota dealers convinced me that they looked inside the cylinder with a boro scope and there was coolant seeping tru. FVCK THAT SH!T!!!. Just received all parts, took off the head... GUESS WHAT!!!!! My gasket is perfectly OK! I am so mad at these fake specialists in toyota. they thought that they can get me leave the car for "repair" for 3,600 plus taxes and everything FVCK TOYOTA!!!! FVCK ALL THESE "professionals". i believe that all my problems were with jammed egr and specifically the heat exchanger. I soaked it in oven cleaner, then boiled it on bonfire with water 4-5 times until water comes out clean. This is the single most important lesson for me. and perhaps to you guys!!!! I HATE PROFESSIONALS AND I DONT TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    please help. prius 2012. random sporadic irreproducible engine overheating. typically, just a short flash of red T warning, accompanied with a splash of coolant out of the overflow tank. splash may be so big that coolant ends up on pass side doors. changed pump, thermostat, temperature sensor. appeared at the time to solve problem, then problem comes again. it was always sporadic. all this happened with NO check engine light and code. some ppl blame on clogged egr valve. took apart the intake manifold, yes, there was some dirt, but not terrible. finally, i got an innova 3130lat and autel mk808bt pro and checked the codes. now i have codes. one of them is P261C "pump B" thing. <can anyone explain what is pump B, and what A???> set autel to watch the temperature and the pump revolutions. short test drive. T reached 100 degC <just short of boiling> and the pump never moved. target speed was always 0 rpm. I am aware about rotor jammed, and no, my rotor was new when i installed it 4 months ago. the problem seems that the computer does not care that temperature is 100 and does not set target speed.................. what do i need: a new ecu? or reset -- reprogram the computer? <pressure test of the coolant system is ok. no exhaust gases in the coolant. engine cylinders pressure test is ok. oil is clean, no coolant in oil. coolant is pink and clean, no oil in coolant>

    What one can do as a preventative measure: take off the EGR-cooler, EGR-valve and intakemanifold. Clean it all out with ovencleaner until it's like new. Now that the intakemanifold is off, change the thermostat, easy to acces with the intakemanifold off, and, when you have 130 k miles or 200.000 km's on the ODO, also change the waterpump, with original Toyota/Aisin OEM parts. If done so, the chance you'll get problems with overheating or headgasket problems are much less. And change motoroil and filter regulary, with 0w 20 oil!

    my prius gives me sporadic random unpredictable overheating. on hot day, highway, 3 hour nonstop, not problem. same night, 3 hours, cooler weather, i had to stop every rest area. temp warning flashes, and is accompanied with a splash of coolant, that was so bad, it splashed over the drive axle and ended up on the pass side doors. changed water pump thermostat, temp sensor, seems like nothing helps. and it remains sporadic and random. Well, I checked the coolant compression test, passed. checked for exhaust gases in the coolant, negative. What is going on??? Tomorow will check the cylinders compression. and try to remove the damn airlock with the help of ac vacuum pump.

    How does air get into the system?

    • @Creativesolutions-Ideas
      @Creativesolutions-Ideas Год назад

      90% of the time it’s from your radiator cap or your overflow cap The cap not only makes sure there is no coolant spillage, but maintains the pressure in the system. If this fails at high temperature, air pockets can form. Air can also enter the system, causing air pockets to be caught inside. Which is why a lot of people see this happening only at higher speeds or when they jump on the freeway the extra heat pressure and momentum. It’s just enough draw in some air. If you’ve already eliminated everything else and you try this I would definitely recommend changing the caps at the same time

    My 2022 sienna has these exact symptoms. Started today on the highway around 70 mph. If I drop to 60 it stabilized. If I accelerated back to 70 it began to raise the temp gauge befor I even got to 70. And again stabilized in seconds after reducing speed to 55-60 on cruise control. Ac was ice cold tried heat and nothing but ice cold ac. Drove home about 30 miles at 55-60 and it stayed at a good temp. Tested it again as I was close to home and same results while accelerating. Found your video and hope it the issue. The new sienna has the same type of system. My sienna has 57k miles It’s a wheelchair Taxi. I’m going to pass your video on to the mechanic to check for air first. Also there were no leaks. Oil was clean and no coolant smell under the hood. Reservoir looked normal.

    That's not how you bleed the system. You need to pressure gauge put 15 PSI in the system use text stream to turn the water pump on put the heater on low at 85° and open the purge valve on the top of the EGR

    I'd clean the EGR system. These things are notorious for clogging up, and it could save you a head gasket down the road. And I would definitely go all in on the cooler and the solenoid. Replacing the pcv valve while your there is a good idea since your opening it up anyway. It's a bit of a pain in the ass job but there is a couple really good videos on RUclips about it. That and changing my oil more frequently is the only thing that got my engine to stop sounding like that.

    If we can figure out how to jump the coolant heat storage pump on our 3rd Gen priuses, that would get air bubbles out quicker, plus that's where most of the Air bubbles stay, can you do a video on that?? There is an Asian guy that does on a 2nd Gen prius as they have same issues with air bubbles, If we can figure that part out, that would really help all of us 3rd gen prius owners, in order to jump it and get it to run we need to find the Relay to it, once that's done, the 2 copper plug pins are where we need to jump it, it will start with car off, and it will force tons of bubbles out of the system.

    Are you the original owner? Do you know the full history of the car if it is ever overheated in the past ? if you do not see leaking radiator fluid puddle in under the car, there could be a small pinhole leak somewhere that is only leaking when the car build up pressure and then it is spraying out while you’re driving, but never enough to puddle when you’re parked Another issue it could be, is Possibly An internal leak, if it is an internal leak there will not be a pool of coolant under the vehicle, but rather, you will find yourself constantly having to put more fluid in the radiator as it either leaks out or evaporates. For internal coolant leaks you will need to look at the head (cylinder block), it could also be that you have a leaky head gasket, as this will let the coolant seep out. Head gaskets that have blown or otherwise gone bad can allow coolant to enter your cylinders and be lost through your exhaust system. Signs that this may be happening include: Oil with a white, cloudy, or milky look to it Watery leakage from your tailpipe White smoke coming out of your tailpipe A bubbling effect in your coolant reservoir, radiator, or both
