  • 2012 Toyota Prius started to constantly overheat at about 140,000 miles couldn't figure out what the reason was, we changed The thermostat didn't help, changed the water pump, still didn't help, we checked the coolant fans and the temperature sensors, we decided to test the theory of Toyota Prius's having a problem with air in the coolant system and if you bleed it out, it will fix the overheating problem. It was also causing the heater to not work correctly and heater would not blow very hot, This is part one of three videos on this test, so make sure you watch them all !

    Just drive around with reservoir cap losing so that air can get out. The set back watch you coolant dry up and keep and adding up the coolant when it come down to low. Prius v 2012 at 245K.

    I do exactly what you did here, but my resevior just boils and over flow. I haven't change my thermostat yet. Guess that's what I'll need to do.

    I first noticed cold air when heater was on. Today the light came on I turned the heat and fan full and heat started coming out. Was on the freeway. Light went off. Will try the air bubble test.

    Are you the original owner? Do you know the full history of the car if it is ever overheated in the past ? if you do not see leaking radiator fluid puddle in under the car, there could be a small pinhole leak somewhere that is only leaking when the car build up pressure and then it is spraying out while you’re driving, but never enough to puddle when you’re parked Another issue it could be, is Possibly An internal leak, if it is an internal leak there will not be a pool of coolant under the vehicle, but rather, you will find yourself constantly having to put more fluid in the radiator as it either leaks out or evaporates. For internal coolant leaks you will need to look at the head (cylinder block), it could also be that you have a leaky head gasket, as this will let the coolant seep out.
    Head gaskets that have blown or otherwise gone bad can allow coolant to enter your cylinders and be lost through your exhaust system. Signs that this may be happening include:
    Oil with a white, cloudy, or milky look to it
    Watery leakage from your tailpipe
    White smoke coming out of your tailpipe
    A bubbling effect in your coolant reservoir, radiator, or both

    Hello,
    I have a 2017 Prius with 120k miles. Recently, I have been losing engine coolant. Mechanics didn’t find any leak. Every time I too off the coolant, it gets to low every 500-700 miles. Any idea what could be the issue?
    Btw, my car runs just fine and the engine doesn’t overheat. The engine coolant simply disappears!
    Thank you!

      What was the fix?

    • @riceburner4747
      @riceburner4747 8 месяцев назад +1

      Sounds like the heat exchanger on your exhaust pipe. Check your tailpipe for coolant.

    That's not how you bleed the system. You need to pressure gauge put 15 PSI in the system use text stream to turn the water pump on put the heater on low at 85° and open the purge valve on the top of the EGR

      What do u mean by use text stream? I recently replaced water pump and thermostat and i have no hot air for the heater and overheating light on but cant get to bleed the air out
