Doing my capra now. I threw on narrowed 1/10 portal axles, lengthened the w.b. with custom links, 105mm tires, paired with the furitek brushless system a ....made it the same width if i were to add 15mm extenders, adds weight low, and will never break lol. Nothing beats it
I really liked the Timelapse with the music! I like that better than just going straight to the finished product! Such a sick little build! The 1.9 are hilarious!
Yeah it's been a pretty common problem in larger scale axial vehicles, at least in my experience with the umg10 6x6, they had so many axle problems that they just canceled it about a year after it came out, and then there's the axial Rift, that thing is just a hilarious mess of broken parts from what I've seen from people who own it.
Looks like tons of fun 😛 on the rocks outside. I like the 1.9 tires, you can get smaller O.D tires. What are the ones on it now, 114mm or 120mm, I think you would be happy with 100mm OD tires . Great video brother!!
Hi Adam, I like the look, specially the weels are the perfect match. i wonder, if the servo can handle the added weight and additional grip of the tire. What‘s you opinion about that?
I think the servo will last another three or four outings before it dies on me. I’ve heard these are weak to begin with and now with the extra load from the brass and big tires I’m sure it will quite soon.
Ya I feel the servo will die soon as well. But axial was never good about giving us a good servo. Think that’s why they always give us mushy steering links and tie rods. Might look into a reefs mini size servo or full size. And not that I want to keep putting more money at it I might end up getting the micro mamba x2 to support it all.
Nice video Adam. Good to see u having fun with Capra 1/18. I feel the 1.9 helped on side hilling as well. They do make a 1.5 hyrax if u do end up going back to stock size tire. What I think would be a big game change is a shock relocation to help ride height. Really like Rock pirates rc so hope they come out with one soon. Lol dig would be nice also but no clue if thats even possible on these smaller rigs lol.
Thanks! I agree about the shock location. I am eagerly watching the interwebs awaiting suspension mods for these. I'm pretty happy with the 1.9, just need a smaller diameter tire I think. I'm looking at some 4.1" tires now. That may be the ticket.
Humm found a set of KLR voodoo MT-X tires 1.9 inner 4.1 outer. Just wish these were cheaper lol. But I agree with u that I think the backward flipping is do to the wee bit over size of the 4.7 4.9 tire. It really wants to pull up those.
if you wanted to keep the capra with raceline wheels pitbull rc sells 1.55 wheels. thats what i did with my fox one. i really like mine well worth it. was also thinking of adding more lights an some antennas
Adam what brand are those aluminum wheels? Looks like you have went to a different beadlock wheel on your UTB18 now? Been 25 years since I owned an RC car, used to race buggies. Have a real crawler (2005 Jeep LJ) but this looks like so much fun when we are posted up at camp to play around in the rocks!
they dont make extenders for these yet...at least that ive seen. I threw on narrowed 1/10 axles, lengthened the w.b. with custom links ....made it the same width if i were to add 15mm extenders, adds weight low, and will never break lol
@@CapeCrawlers oh nice, it look like that particular model has a lot of potential right out the box but couldn't find mods videos anywhere. I'm about to pull the trigger on it, would be great one of your deep review and modifications project.
Nice vid wow so much info just subscribed after watching your channel I’m wanting a crawler I have bashers and 1/10 crawlers what would you suggest as a starter mini thanks bro
Thanks for watching! The new traxxas TRX4M is a great option. But it’s hard to beat the axial scx24. They are bulletproof and there is endless customization available through the aftermarket
Lol, tough thing about adding weight, everything breaks easier… I put on my 1.9’s with Hyrax to try as well. Lol, too much! However there are “scale” 1.9 tire options available that run close to stock tire size. I am looking at the JConcepts “ Tusk Scale Country 1.9 Class 1”. About .25 inches bigger than stock, but 1.9 rim. Can’t wait to get some bits for mine too!~
Adam, u really need a trx4 hightrail buddy. With a few mods and a little brass down low it’s one of the funnest and most capable trucks I own. Even with the lift kit and 2.2. Tires. Lol. Ur going to absolutely love 10th scale crawling!!! 😁🤙✌️
I would LOVE a high trail. My LHS has two of them on display and I drool all over them every time I stop in there. That body style really appeals to me. It reminds me of the trucks I had when I was a teenager!
@@CapeCrawlers u should get one, if nothing else it would help ur channel to expand ur audience. Almost everyone that like small crawlers also own 1/10 so it’s not going to hurt u anyhow. Just think of it as a write off 😉 and a sound business investment. Lol.
I've since done both of those things. The gear reduction wasn't by a huge margin, but it did help. I did the brushless motor conversion with a new ESC and that combo really helped!
Some 4.19 tires might look alright. This truck seems decent. I just don’t see taking it out over a 1/10 scale though. I think it would be a good truck for someone who doesn’t have a crawler yet. Pretty capable for $250.
4.19 may be the sweet spot. You’re probably right. For me it’s amazing because I’ve never owned a 1/10 scale. It may be a different story if I had that frame of reference. But for a mini guy like me, it’s a quantum leap in capabilities!
Thats a tough choice! The gatekeeper is a 1/10, so it's going to be bigger and more capable. It also has a ton of features that make it really capable. But the UTB18 is less expensive and works fantastic and also comes with portal axles. Since I have not gotten my hands on the Element, I can't give you an opinion based on personal experience. I can only say that I love the UTB18 and am very happy with it.
@@CoolD10 The capra dominates the indoor track so hard now it would be no comparison! I'd have to bring them somewhere that would be more of a level playing field. The capra is a beast!
You really should have done a test 1st with all the brass / upgrades then done a test with the tire swap. Those tires are just obsurd and no one is going to run those. Would have been nice to see a before and after of what more people would be doing. Or at the min run a Class 0 tire and 1.55 wheel. Just food for thought
Very good points! I have since changed the tires. I could do a run with stock tires and brass, then do an update with the new tire combo. Could even splice in footage from this video for an apples to apples comparison on stock tires.
I personally would have left the steel lower suspension links and replaced only the upper plastic ones with the alloy upgrades. Aluminum can be ground away by rocks far quicker than steel. And the steel lower links serve to also add weight down low. Those tires are to big and make it look toyish/cartoonish IMHO. I'm still waiting for my overdrive gears and alloy steering links from Horizon, but added brass shock spring keepers from Yeah Racing.
Good point about the links. That didn’t even cross my mind but it makes good sense. The tires are silly big. I have some 4.1” proline trenchers coming and I think those will look much better!

Proline has 1.55 BFG Krawler tires, predator compound that take the 1.9 wheels. They are about 1/4" taller than stock.
I just threw on a set of 4.1 class 1 trenchers in the predator compound. They’re PERFECT

Got me looking at the Capra now! 😂 the servo in my trx4m failed already so hopefully your working on that in you next trx4m video.
The servo will be next for sure. I’m positive it’s days are severely limited now with the big tires on it!

Glad you liked that approach! I agree, the 1.9 and big tires are comical. But they're growing on me more and more!
Nice I just picked one up I was skeptical at first but it's the real deal fun little crawler
Glad you like it! I am really enjoying mine.
You can tell it's an authentic axial because the axle snapped almost immediately LOL. I wouldn't mind picking one up someday when the price comes down
LOL ouch! I've got four extra axles now so I'll be prepared next time. It absolutely needs stronger shafts though!
