I got to see Rival Sons support the mighty Sabbath at their final show, in my home town. Proud to be a Rival Sons fan, Proud to be a Black Sabbath fan. Proud to be from Birmingham.
All I can say is as a 60 year old fan of Sabbath since a kid, and through all their lineup changes, Rival Sons just blew my mind with their musical tribute to Black Sabbath 😳😜🤘
YESSUH!!!! I saw them at a small club in my area (North Carolina) last April, and could not believe that I was getting to see them in such a small venue. No seats on the floor, just a bunch of rock fans packed together and showing major love to Rival Sons. I'm sure that I'll never get the chance to see them at such a small venue again, but damn, I'm sure glad I did.
Fuckin incredible live band. Jay is beyond amazing. He must do single takes in the studio cause he slays it live and sounds as good or better than the recordings.

I can’t understand why Rival sons never exploded onto the scene. Jordan is one of the best songs I’ve ever herd, and every song they have is powerful. Great musical talents, some of the best mic work and vocal control you’ll ever see in a live performance. I guess it’s still pretty cool how they kicked ass on the downlow. If someone says they like rival sons, you can assume they are into the good shit.

Black Sabbath was the turning point for me as a 14-year-old. Hearing their performance at California Jam and then listening to the Paranoid album, I became a bona fide Black Sabbath freak through and through. As far as new bands, I saw Rival Sons open for Greta Van Fleet last March in Anaheim California… They blew me away. Best hard rock band I’ve heard in ages. 👍👍👍

Sabbath are part of the reason I have hearing problems today! In the 70's I would sit with my back on the speakers and just crank it. It's an old saying, but sadly true, they really don't make music like that anymore, Deep Purple, Budgie, ect. Rival Sons did a great job, I like that the lead guitarist didn't try to emulate Tony I. Tony had a problem with his right hand with the tops of 2 middle fingers missing, and the left handed guitar strings were lighter than usual, banjo strings i believe, and slack, you would be a fool to try to copy that, so kudos to him for not pretending. I would go to their concert if they did a Sabbath Tribute show!
Check out Elder, All Them Witches, Windhand, Russian Circles, YOB, Pallbearer and Sleep. We still make music like this, driven by the riff, you just aren't hearing it on the radio. Which is a shame.

True, but the original line-up is what started it all and what many metal bands base their main influences off of. People mention Sabbath and they immediately think Iommi, Osbourne, Butler, and Ward.
They captured the sound of the original recordings brilliantly. I know Sabbath think of the original lineup as the definitive Black Sabbath but I think of the years with Ronnie as Sabbath too, no better metal singer! Other albums with Tony Martin produced some killer music also.

There will never be another band like Sabbath or a lot of their contemporaries ever again.. These guys and many of their era were literally music Gods. With legit talent that was the pinnacle of human achievement up to that time..Yes there are many really killer bands..unbelievable at that. But these guys came from a time younger music lovers cannot really comprehend. These bands only had pictures or posters and word of mouth and of course their albums for people to experience them, the mystique and the lore of the stories were epic and so different than today. Music wise I believe it was more personal and affected people deeply on a very different level, the musicianship was too...Even though there are very very good musicians today it's not close to the music experience 30 or 40 years ago.
Rival Sons could easily pay homage to Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. That singer it´s beyong words and they are probably the most talented and honest Hard Rock acts from the last 20 years.

@@jackthomson5047 Ronnie James Dio saved Black Sabbath not ONCE, not TWICE, but THREE times. 1980's Heaven and Hell made Black Sabbath relevant again with one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, 1992's Dehumanizer made them relevant a second time when the band had been playing CLUBS, and the 2006 reunion under the name "Heaven & Hell" (still Black Sabbath to me) would result in new killer Sabbath material (three new songs on the Dio years compilation and new studio album "The Devil You Know") and three successful tours. Ozzy was the original, and respect is undoubtedly due, but we have to remember he was out of juice and totally disengaged from the writing process during "Never Say Die" (1978)....drugs obviously a factor. After the inevitable firing of Ozzy Osbourne, it was either A) end Black Sabbath or B) carry on with somebody new. Option B resulted in Sabbath continuing to release two masterpieces (Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules) and Ozzy finding Randy Rhoads and releasing killer material of their own (Blizzard and Diary). Dio was as much a part of Sabbath as anybody else and deserves recognition for his strong contributions.
Brandon: Dio fit in perfectly when he arrived. He had all that Black Sabbath needed when they were virtually left with their dicks in the dirt. Dio was a total godsend for both the band and himself. He amplified both the sun along with the mystery of the moons shadow. A match made in Heaven and Hell...

Yeah, they're one of those bands that I like to introduce people to in person so that I can see the look on their face when Jay belts it out. And while these two get most of the recognition they've got one of the best rhythm sections out there today. Not sure how I feel about them adding the keyboards the last few years.....it''s not bad, but I think that it was to help with the live stuff.

I learned to play drums to Zep and Sabbath. Dang... that brought a tear to my eye. I never watch awards shows so thanks for posting this.

With legit talent that was the pinnacle of human achievement up to that time..Yes there are many really killer bands..unbelievable at that. But these guys came from a time younger music lovers cannot really comprehend. These bands only had pictures or posters and word of mouth and of course their albums for people to experience them, the mystique and the lore of the stories were epic and so different than today. Music wise I believe it was more personal and affected people deeply on a very different level, the musicianship was too...Even though there are very very good musicians today it's not close to the music experience 30 or 40 years ago.

Rival Sons could easily pay homage to Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. That singer it´s beyong words and they are probably the most talented and honest Hard Rock acts from the last 20 years.

@@jackthomson5047 Ronnie James Dio saved Black Sabbath not ONCE, not TWICE, but THREE times. 1980's Heaven and Hell made Black Sabbath relevant again with one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, 1992's Dehumanizer made them relevant a second time when the band had been playing CLUBS, and the 2006 reunion under the name "Heaven & Hell" (still Black Sabbath to me) would result in new killer Sabbath material (three new songs on the Dio years compilation and new studio album "The Devil You Know") and three successful tours. Ozzy was the original, and respect is undoubtedly due, but we have to remember he was out of juice and totally disengaged from the writing process during "Never Say Die" (1978)....drugs obviously a factor. After the inevitable firing of Ozzy Osbourne, it was either A) end Black Sabbath or B) carry on with somebody new. Option B resulted in Sabbath continuing to release two masterpieces (Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules) and Ozzy finding Randy Rhoads and releasing killer material of their own (Blizzard and Diary). Dio was as much a part of Sabbath as anybody else and deserves recognition for his strong contributions.
And don't forget Ian gillan! Born again was Sabbath's heaviest yet!
Brandon: Dio fit in perfectly when he arrived. He had all that Black Sabbath needed when they were virtually left with their dicks in the dirt. Dio was a total godsend for both the band and himself. He amplified both the sun along with the mystery of the moons shadow. A match made in Heaven and Hell...

Yeah, they're one of those bands that I like to introduce people to in person so that I can see the look on their face when Jay belts it out. And while these two get most of the recognition they've got one of the best rhythm sections out there today. Not sure how I feel about them adding the keyboards the last few years.....it''s not bad, but I think that it was to help with the live stuff.
