Having been a Glock shooter all my life, last year for the very first time I tried a 22LR Handgun and I chose the P17! I was so amazed by this Gun, so I bought another one and now have two great 22LR Guns! As I said before I love Glocks and I carried a G19 for 10 years as my Duty Weapon and a G26 as my off duty EDC but as time goes by, many things Change and the thing that changed most is that I retired and I am now 78 years old and the Glock Platform is no longer good for me! To make this story short, I now find myself with a Kel-Tec P17 in my right front pocket and it has now become my EDC for self defense! I never did truly believe what most gun people said about the 22LR for self Defense and I shoot this gun much better now than I ever did before! I'm not saying it's the best for self defense but I am saying that at my age it is great for Me and I don't care what anyone says! I also just purchased a New CP33 with that great 33 magazine and I also purchased a auto speed loader with the 17 round extension and have a 50 round gun for fun at the range which I go to every week! No Golf for this retired guy, I love my range time! Thanks Kel-Tec for being Senior friendly!

Same here. I was giving the lcpii lite rack with tandemkross plus 4 mag bases and galloway sigurd trigger. Its a bit lighter than the kel tec p17. After months of comparing i am sticking with the kel tec p17. I shoot it better . Its an amazingly light and accurate weapon. I kept mine slim and custom fit some talon grip material to the grip. In order not to strip the heads ofbthe screws use proper wrench. I think they are 2 to 2.5 mm allen head. Use two one fir each side and you should have no issues. The Mcarbo trigger really improves the trigger function. I cant say enough good about the p17. Slowly beciming my primary EDC.

I just got the Hogue grip and heated it up with a hair dryer and coated the grip with windex like the instructions said and it slid right on....didnt seem like it would even fit at first.....But MAN are you right about it making the P17 feel like a real "gun" and less like a toy!! Yes, I've seen that same video you refer to. If you're going to carry the P17, try Aguila Interceptors in it. If they run good and you're accurate with them, it's gives the round extra punch. I'm mostly a Taurus person, but I just ordered a P17 instead of the TX22. @$229 (what I paid before taxes) the P17 is at least $50 less and comes with 1 mag more than the TX22. Thanks for the video.

Love that grip! Waffle pattern ugly af. How aggressive is the stipling? With # of shots being the defining # of shots req to stop a threat (unless an experienced marksman that doesn't freeze during pressure, but still- that's even more shots w/ P17 probably removing the advantage w/ documented higher than 9mm 1 shot potential by a surprising margin) Yes, the og trigger is kinda squishy, but the pull is 3.5lb iirc. And as you pointed out, you can put yourself in a pretzel & 1 handed shoot just fine.

People knock the .22 … but if you’ll look up how many people have been killed by .177 caliber air guns lately ( and a .22 LR fire arm is way more powerful ) then common sense tells you a .22 LR will do a little bit better

Light as the P17 , a person could carry 2 of them with a holster on each side and draw them out like the old west gunfighters a pistol in each hand! if one failed due to using 22 rimfire ammo, you would have the other pistol and the chances of both failing to fire is highly unlikely , I know they say a 22 LR doesn't have stopping power but two pistols firing a total of 32 rounds, that will stop anybody! Even a full magazine of 16 rounds from one pistol would be enough

My P365X with 15 rounds of 50 grain +P rounds weighs like 24 ounces and thats a micro edc.
This P17 weighs 15 ounces with 17 rounds AND a red dot.
That P365X feels like a brick in my pocket.
This P17 i sometimes forget its there.
This P17 has the best designed magazine for the 22LR, its designed like a center fire mag so you cant load it wrong.
The other 22LR semi auto's have a bad design mag and if you load those wrong, it will fail left and right.
As some say, you dont need 17 rounds, just 1 or 2 ...

The key to carrying a .22 lr for self-defense is a knowledge of human anatomy and practice and accuracy.
Once you know some anatomy and can place the rounds where you need them , with low recoil you can place your shots where you want.
Eyes , neck , vital organs and you can cur through most clothing material effectively.
