    ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

I'm glad she liked it. Maynard has always been about emotion. He sings what matters to him, and IMO that peaked with aenemia. Undertow being a close second. Opiate was pretty obvious what it was about. Then Tool traveled into personal matters and immediately launched into the history books. The feeling in songs like Sober and H are so intense, and get even more intense when you know the background. But watching this, its obvious why tool toured a lot more with lateralus than the previous albums. That was much less personal. You can see maynard reliving his addiction on stage as he sung this. Better late than never, my friend. Not all the live shows were as great as the video critiqued here; Maynard James Keenan typically would play with his back to the audience, completely disengaged. Still unique as they would always have a live jam session, but still. Do not be sad you weren't around to catch them live (they don't tour anymore, and haven't for awhile). I can only be happy those 4 musicians found each other in this world and created their music.

Actually Sober is about his addiction to alcohol and how it destroyed who he was and everyone around him. One reason why Maynard's music is soo good is because it comes from a real place. A place he relives every time he sings the song. You can see him shaking from alcohol poisoning as he sings this song. Thats what the vocal coach is missing. Its not just an act to him. Its part of his history. Every tool song has a meaning, some of them are just very personal to Maynard. H is another one...

I can confirm that Maynard has crippling stage fright, but there's also a big element of him wanting the performance to be about the music and not him. I saw them play live last year and you couldn't see him on the stage throughout 90% of the show. It didn't matter. The music, his voice, and the imagery they create for each song is more than enough to create an incredible experience that I won't ever forget. No no no. He does not have stage fright. Maynard has a condition where certain lights can cause him to pass out. He positions himself at the back because lights aren't as big a problem there. It's why at concerts in daylight with no lightshow, you will see him more up front because strobing lights aren't a problem there. For example, with Puscifer he's not "hiding" from the crowd at all. In dimly lit arenas with a light show, the visual effects team and Maynard have a signal worked out. If he is starting to feel dizzy from the lights, he moves his mic stand to a certain spot and the strobing lights are toned down until he moves the mic stand again.

Maynard James Keenan has grown since this 1990s concert. He was just a young man running around in an adult romper so people would have lowered expectations of him.
Then they blew the doors off that stadium because they knew they were good.
And to think Maynard was gonna go into country until the drummer, Danny, talked Maynard into singing progressive rock.
The song is about the lure of insanity lurking in your mind, quenched only by inebriation. Not of drugs or alcohol, but of the knowledge of evil brought about by learning dark truths.
Yeah. Ænima, their follow up album, expands on the concept more with songs like Eulogy and 46&2.
Now, in his old age, Maynard has a vineyard and his own brand of wine.
You should have a glass and listen to Tool’s newer stuff.
I once saw them on tour in 2003 in DC. Indoor auditorium.
There were fully-naked couples, covered in glitter, hanging from the rafters by their ankles, dancing like it was cirque du Soleil.
There were 3D wireframe laser images on the roof. There was whale-song in the background.
And Maynard speaks in that haunted voice, backed by the fire and rage of emotion over his mother, Judith, praying before dying after ten thousand days of agony at the hands of a terminal illness, and the hate and malice directed toward his father, a chicago faith minister...
And in that haunting voice, he tells his 60,000 fans to question authority, seek reason, research truths, and become greater than ourselves.
Meanwhile, he is wearing a thong. That’s it.
He climbs up the massive 5 story drapes about 12 feet.
The wireless pack of his In Ear Monitors are pulling on the back waistband of the thong, so you can see the crack of his backside.
He drops down into a crouch like a possessed entity, with one hand on the floor between his ankles, and the other still clutching to his microphone.
Then you realize that Audix OM2 was in his hand the entire time he climbed those drapes.
The man doesn’t put on “a show.”
    He is creating •art.•
    No two ways about it.
If I ever saw him on a street corner, I’d ask if he has any wine.
And if he even so much as opened his mouth to reply, I would pivot and run away screaming in fear.
Even though he’s pretty short, he packs a ton of charisma in a few baritone words.
And, yeah, the guy’s voice sounds like finely aged whiskey poured from quality oak barrels. But I’d still run away in fear that I would be possessed by whatever beautiful minstrel of evil danced from that devious silver tongue he uses.
Although, on his off days, I’m sure he’s just your Average well-read Joe with a Mensa-certified IQ and a big love for his mom.

I saw Tool live in the early 2000s and it was one of the single most intense experiences I've had in my life. Maynard's voice is strikingly beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Its like he is singing directly into your soul and your forced to feel these emotions that are stuffed into these lyrics. For those of us that have had the life experiences these lyrics cover in particular, its even more powerful because you understand how dark of a place this is really coming from. Losing the trust of those that love you. Feeling like you're nothing but trash and that your existence complicates the lives of those around you. Its powerful and sad truths spoken through this mans ability to convey the anguish, pain and anger of addiction.
