- Play back at 1440p for best quality. The recently released PMDG 737-700 is put through its paces in Virtual Reality using the HP Reverb G2 headset in Microsoft Flight Simulator. As the most complex aircraft released for MSFS so far, can it perform in VR? Smooth as silk or will it be a stutter fest?

Quite a few questions on performance related issues so here are my approximated results (MS GAME BAR).
Southend to Bristol (both payware PilotPlus) - 33 FPS average (Settings Ultra/High mainly) Live weather - scattered clouds.
Toronto to Matha's Vineyard (Burning Blue Design) Early Evening preset weather (scattered clouds-Night Landing) - 35 FPS average
Geneva to Brussels (Aerosoft), Live weather - a little drizzle on departure then mainly few clouds, clear on landing - 30 FPS average
I have now done 12 flights in the PMDG 737-700 using the Varjo Aero. I have a beefy system with RTX 3090.
I am VERY happy to confirm that I have not noticed any stutters whatsoever! Indeed the smoothness is no different from flying the C152!
I flew from Innsbruck to Rome this evening and the performance was just stunning!
I am absolutely thrilled with this aircraft. Hands down the best aircraft in MSFS (certainly in terms of airliners which is my thing) and worth every penny!
Have you flown the 737 in VR? Let me know your impressions. 👍
I have, quite recently with the Quest 2. Performance was absolutely fine with a RTX3080, but I didn't like not being able to use the touch controllers. They worked for buttons but not for knobs, throttle, yoke, etc. So having to find physical keys, my mouse and joystick was a challenge sometimes when you got a headset in front of your eyes.
Hey again! Thanks for passing it along. I’ve been waiting to try vr but had some eyeball procedures done the last few weeks. Just through with final (ten minutes ago!) and I’m probably ready to try once the medicine wears off. So, looks fantastic! My 8700k 3080ti should fair well hopefully. It has so far in other ac. I’ll probably lower my settings a wee bit. Thanks for your work and look forward to more of your brilliant vids! Cheers!
i9 2080super Hp reverb g2 here and you are totally correct … performance is excellent.
As for the Fenix A320 …. Well unfortunately that’s a different story 🙄
I bought the G2 V2 instead on a new monitor after looking at all your videos and wow what a sim in 3d. Can't go back to 2d now. Thanks for your great tutorials.
Great! Welcome to MSFS in 3D 😀
Where is everyone finding these HP Reverb G2 “v2” I think it’s a hoax
@@Timboslicce Amazon USA and they import it to UK. About £600. Took 1 week and it is defo v2
@@Timboslicce 🤣
@@Timboslicce I bought mine about 2 weeks ago through Amazon. It was a US import to the UK and 100% v2
I have an i5 9600k and an RTX 2070 and the PMDG in VR is incredibly smooth. Just as smooth as the default aircraft. My settings are a mix of medium and high and I usually fly to large payware airports with heavy AIG traffic.
A stutter fest ....
Unplayable with my G2 + RTX 3070 + cpu i5 9600k + 32 g mem
Do you use also a G2 vr ?
@@jpvanderhaegen No I use an Oculus Rift. Just the standard version, not even the 2.0. Probably explains why there isn’t much stuttering.
@@martgatz75 Thank you !
Seriously thinking of adding this to the (virtual) hangar for VR VATSIM flying.... the lack of an EFB is a bit off-putting, but with the Navigraph charts in VR and with the ingamepanels PDF viewer for looking at the SimBrief-generated OFP, I think it's a strong contender.... I have a Quest 2 with an i9-9900 oc'ed to 5GHz and a 3080 Ti. With my rig setup I can lock in to 36 FPS (half my 72hz refresh rate) consistently with no stutters in the Fenix.... So yeah, I think I'm going to pick this up. I miss not having a 73 in MSFS. Was flying the Zibo 738 a ton in VR on VATSIM in x-plane, so this may scratch the itch.
Nice one again! Quick question. Is the right mouse click zoom enabled there also?
No, but you can config that option if you want to.
very good
The sheepskin seats are supposed to be fuzzy. 😉
🤣
Jeez I’d love
To have your kit!
How does it feel, Mark? Does it feel like you are actually in the cockpit? Does the landscape feel tangible, is the 3D and spatial experience noticeably higher in VR than in 2d or using an IR tracker (like I do )? Thanks for the video, very nice.
The immersion level is doubled in my opinion. 👍
Hi Mark, thank you for great videos! I would like to ask you about the current VR support state as I could not find much relevant info on the internet.
Can you grab the yoke and throttles with the VR controllers and control them comfortably? I fly using only VR controllers and rudder pedals and this is very essential to me.
Have a great day!
VR controller support is limited in MSFS. It is not refined and somewhat clunky.
I fly default TBM930, CJ4 and Duckwork's DC-3 with VR controllers with no issues. So I guess it differs from plane to plane. But all of them have grabbable yoke and throttles/propellers, which is must have without hardware yoke and throttle quadrant. So in final words you would not recommend PMDG for VR controllers only? 🙂
@@flyingdavid It works with VR controllers. Not my choice but the option is there.
@@SimHangerFS I see. So you can grab and manipulate the yoke and throttles with VR controllers too? Thank you again!
As a New Zealander, no thankyou to Ryan Air NZ...
FWIW The two companies that fly jets internally here, Air New Zealand which has replaced all its 737s with A 320 variants and JetStar which may have a few flying here but I expect not since Covid.
Queenstown airport is far more true to life than the default Wellington one, well worth flying into since it takes special pilot certification. Try it and you'll see why.
I am a regular visitor to Queenstown…love the approaches, keeps you alert 😱
Great videos Mark!
I’m considering purchasing this aircraft. As it’s a Study Level complex 737, my question is… If as in real life, this aircraft is operated by two qualified professional pilots, so how are you all flying this single-handedly? Is it not overwhelming and too many tasks to handle safely?
It certainly keeps you busy, the automation provides some relief…planning departure and arrivals well in advance is the key.
Try this with Vatsim also lol you're busy most of the time but it's def possible !
How might a Ryzen 9 and 3060 in a laptop do? 32 gb. Itching to try but think a desktop would be better?
It would do okay on medium settings and perhaps 1080p or 1440p in flat mode. In VR then res in OpenXR Toolkit at 70%. PC would be better, depending on specs.
@@SimHangerFS What should be the PC hardware specs for VR ready setup considering the dense area flying?
@@pankaj8878 32 GB RAM, 3080 OR 3080TI plus NVMe storage plus Ryzen 5900 or intel 12700k or similar.
@@SimHangerFSThank you so much!!!
@@SimHangerFS It might be worth looking at the Ryzen 5800X3D as initial reviews with MSFS 2020 are looking like that it is now the most capable CPU in the sim.
I have the HP2 V2 and get black screen every 30 sec for 10 sec...only with the PMDG737. Any ideas why as it's quite frustrating. I have done firmware updates etc. Is there a VR setting in MSFS I can try?
That is weird, sorry don’t know the answer to this one.
Thanks for the reply. So I did some testing 2d + 3d. Looks like when the 737 saves a panel state it freezes for about 10 secs on my machine and I use FSUIPC to autosave every 30 seconds as the dreaded CTD's returned after the latest patch. When I went to load a panel state I had 48 pages of autosaves. So last night I did my test flight EGCC to KBOS turning off the autosaves and had no issues. So it looks like a combination of 737 panel state saves and autosave feature. I can set it to every 15 mins to save now I know where the problem is. Just need to fix the CTD's now :). I'm getting about 30 fps on high settings with my 2080ti card and NO stutters. Need to save up for a 3090 now.
12700k and a 3070 for me..hmm i wonder.
I do wish you flew into an airport that was custom made. I dont fly at standard airports
I do comment at the end, flown into Bristol, EBBR and Martha’s Vineyard.
@@SimHangerFS would love to see some footage into those airports before splashing the cash on a reverb
Curious as to what GPU temps and usage people are seeing when running VR ?
GPU around 60-70c (it will throttle at 81c) and CPU 10900k (water cooled) never gets too hot. Unlike my previous cpu 8700K which topped out at 100c !
any landing you can walk away from!
🤣🫡
i have i7 7700k rtx2060 23gb of ram and it is bearly playable...i am ok with graphics but having stutters :( just cant make it smooth
Check out my RUclips channel and the playlist - essential vr - check out the A to Z video and the performance video. May help.
Another time test it in a heavier area otherwise that area won't stress test the game.
I reported on additional test done at the end of the video.
A stutter fest ....
Unplayable with my G2 + 3070 + cpu i5 9600 + 32 g
