    • @rbarlow

      No this is not available yet . Some people have faked it by moving the cockpit view forward so the panel is out of view. I find running both XP12 and MSFS on my Setup works fine if you have enough ssd space. There is a learning curve on MSFS so you might want to get a head start if you intend to switch. I am keeping both.

I was using it perfectly with X-Plane 11 and Project Magenta Glass Cockpit software, but now I'm swapping to MSFS2020 and I'm considering using my setup with Air Manager. The problem you will have with MSFS is that it doesn’t support networking multiple copies of the sim. Until it does you have to run things on a single computer and there is no scenery only view available. You won’t need to use keystrokes though as the Simstrumentation guys have done the legwork and have bezels for the G1000 that can pretty easily converted to a hardware function to run your physical bezel. Let me know if you need some help with that conversion

    Hello Russ, thanks for all your info, always helpful, I've took your advice to use Air Manager a while back and thanks for providing the flap handle print files for the Honeycomb throttle, my son has a printer and made some for me. I have a question on my fps problem. Since MSFS has multi monitor capability I added a third monitor. My system was primarily built for video and photo editing, I'm not very knowledgeable about gaming setup. I built my system consisting of an AMD 5950x cpu, 64 GB ram, Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme, fast 2TB SSD 980 pro NVMe drive for the software programs, Nvidia 3090, 1 Benq SW271 monitor and 2 Benq EL2870u Monitors. When running MSFS on 1 monitor I get 60 FPS, on 2 monitors I get 1/2 the FPS (around 30 FPS, on 3 monitors I get 20 FPS.), running Spacedesk on a tablet used for a popout makes the fps completely unusable at 15 fps, this is done on the ground, clear sky's, nothing moving in the frame. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm in low or ultra setting, tried setting all monitors to 1080, pretty much get the same FPS. Is the bottleneck my monitors which are all 60 fps, it seems to be starting at 60 fps and then just dividing it up between them. I tried overclocking the monitors but they don't seem to let me. My motherboard unfortunately doesn't have onboard video to help out somewhere. Flying with 3 monitors is so much better, I would be happy with 20+ fps with spacedesk running. Do you have any ideas?

    • @ColinDyckes
      @ColinDyckes Год назад

      No ideas, but I can confirm that even a single popped out VFR Map on a single display will halve FPS (latest msfs beta). Some people have said that this doesn't happen if they use the iGPU as the secondary but I can't test that until my 13900K OC bundle arrives as my current mb doesn't support the iGPU.

    • @marcelkr
      @marcelkr Год назад

      @@ColinDyckes Thanks for replying, it appears when using 2 monitors it cuts the fps in half, when I use three monitors it cuts the fps to 1/3 so it's consistently dividing the fps between the number of monitors/popouts. I wondered if using monitors with higher frame rate cut the fps relatively in half or 1/3, for example 120 frame rate using 2 monitors cut in half (60fps) with 3 monitors cut to 1/3 (40fps). Unfortunately my motherboard does not have iGPU, it sounded like that could have helped for me.

    • @ColinDyckes
      @ColinDyckes Год назад

      @@marcelkr It sounds as if your 1/2 and 1/3 slowdowns are due to the increased number of pixels needing to be rendered rather than popouts (which could then halve things again 😢). Turn on Developer Mode and see if you are CPU or GPU bound without popouts. You may not have a powerful enough CPU or GPU for triple monitor.

    • @marcelkr
      @marcelkr Год назад

      @@ColinDyckes Thanks I will try that next time I'm on MSFS, what should the mode be in CPU or GPU bound? My system should be powerful enough since I have a Nvidia 3090 gpu and the AMD Ryzen 9 5950x cpu

    • @ColinDyckes
      @ColinDyckes Год назад

      @@marcelkr I had a 3090 before buying a 4090. I would say that your 3090 is the bottleneck at the moment. With a 4090 it would move to the CPU. My 5.6Ghz all core OC 13900K bundle arrives on Monday to replace my OC 10900k.

  • @regwatson2017
    @regwatson2017 Год назад +1

    Where do you buy suitable touch screen panels ? Can you give me a link - is there a certain size better than others - ? Does it depend on the number of suitable connections on your graphics card ?

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Год назад +1

      It depends on your setup. To get a decent sized panel you may want to use a 22-24" monitor but consider how high it will sit with your yoke in place. Too high and it will block too much of your scenery monitor. You eye should be about level with the mid point vertically of your scenery monitor(s). Will your panel monitor sit on top of or behind the yoke as you look at it in the pilots position? See how high it will be.
      Be sure to get a capacitive touch monitor as I suggest a glass surface for durability,
      Log into the Simstrumentation discord and users there can suggest specific hardware they are using.

Doing that and removing the camera modes from the mouse seems to have corrected it. I'll keep playing and let you know. Hopefully in a couple of hours, I will have a permanent result. Thank you again for your help.

      @@tubeslats it varies by aircraft. Initially Simstrumentation offered only the instrument's to download,. At first you had to download and import each individually into Air Manager . I think they have some complete packages now which is easier. Not sure if they have panels that can be imported yet but actually laying out the instruments which can be resized and positioned is pretty simple and quick.

      The CJ4 instruments are natively available in AM and don't need to be downloaded. They've been in the community store for quite a long time.
      We don't offer fully built panels because there's too wide of a variety of screen sizes out there. Some people run their AM panels on tablets. Some use 13" screens, others 15, and yet others 23+ in screens. Others use a mix thereof. A layout built for one size likely won't work well for another. It then ends up in way too many support requests from users who want custom stuff for their own setups. For example, I run a pair of 23" screens for my main displays, and a 15.6" as a centre pedestal console, and another 15" for a side panel. Something built for me wouldn't work for the average person using a 15 or 13" screen at all.
      As a result, we just prefer provide instruments and let people build their own layouts the way that works best for them on their own screens.

    I have all space sims, CV1/G2/tobi5, and have to say VR is the pits, fumbling around like a blind man, fiddling every time you fly a sim, and sim updates are a nightmare. VR is a clunky, stagnant tech, which has become a cash-grab.

      Compared to the cost of a computer capable of running MSFS I don’t think $65 is very much. I am always amazed that gamers complain about the high costs of Air Manager and real life pilots tell me what a bargain it is compared to anything associated with actually flying😁 You can’t take your family to a decent meal for $65 these days.

      @@theworldssexiestman Considering what Air Manager can do compared to other programs you may be comparing it to, there's no contest. Air Manager isn't just a tool. It's a platform upon which you can build literally an infinite number of cockpit layouts for anything and everything. There are over 1400 free community instruments available for almost anything. And that list is growing all the time.
      Hope cockpit setups aren't cheap. Particularly hardware setups. There's a heavy $$$ investment that goes into it. Like literally thousands. As Russ describes in his video, that usually ends up restricting you to flying one particular plane or plane type. With Air Manager, a Knobster and a touch screen or two, you can literally for a few hundred bucks have a setup that can allow you fly any plane type you could possibly want. And Air Manager is the heart of that. It's quite literally the cheapest and most versatile home cockpit setup you could possibly get. And Air Manager is the platform on which it's built.
      As far as I'm concerned for all that you're getting, they're practically giving it away at $65.

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Год назад +2

      @@theworldssexiestman I will defend Air Manager by saying that unlike MSFS which sell millions of copies, home cockpit builders are a small niche market so the price has to be higher unless it is operated as a non-profit organization like Simstrumentation. Unfortunately without Air Manager Simstrumentation would not exist and without Microsoft or Laminar Research, Air Manager would not exist either. It is foolish to expect these enterprises to operate without reasonable profits. Don't know what you do for a living but I doubt you would do it for free either unless you are retired like me. It allows me to spend countless unpaid hours trying to help others. Most people, and certainly almost all businesses, are not blessed with such an opportunity. As I said earlier, flight simulation is a somewhat expensive hobby just due to the hardware required to have a decent experience. The beautiful thing about the marketplace is that we each get to make that individual price vs. value decision and I certainly respect yours. Thanks for your comments.

    Your comments about VR are very misinformed. PiMax 5k & 8K give 140 degrees FOV, Crystal is very clear and higher than 4k, motion sickness happens when your frame rate is not a fraction of your Hz i.e 90Hz = 45 or 30 fps. if you can't divide your Hz by your frame rate you have a mismatch leading to sickness, a few other points too but I forget in the moment as I'm moving house.

    • @rbarlow

      Thanks for your input as I try to be as accurate as possible but my knowledge is ever evolving. Your criticism was rather broad and seemed to cover topics from several of my videos so it is difficult to respond point by point. One issue I will address is your comment on causes if VR Sickness. Just google "cause of VR sickness" and you will see the majority of sources supporting my theory as a major cause. While your framerate mismatch is not specifically mentioned it could create latency which is cited as a major issue in VR sickness that I agree with. Still some people are just more prone to motion sickness even with stable framerate and low latency. Regardless of the cause, assuming you were referring to my video on VR Sickness, my main purpose was to encourage users that it is possible to overcome the issue and not to give up after only a couple tries. Good luck in your new house.
