    This is one of the best sony apsc lens in 2024? In the sony e-mount lens battle, it's a great choice.
    This is the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS lens review for the Sony APS-C crop sensor cameras.
    This is one of my favorite APS-C lens, because the image which comes from this lens, is absolutely amazing. I show you my experiments and real word usage. What is you toughts about these? Is this the Best aps-c lens in 2023? Is the sony apsc dead in 2023? Sigma 30mm vs Sony 35mm?
    My go to portrait lens for my sony a6400 camera, but I think it can be wonderful with the sony fx30 or with any sony milc camera.

      Thanks! I really appreciate. 🙏 It depends on what you shoot, but this was my first lens after the kit lens and I was very happy with it. It gave me that nice shallow depth of field and bokeh. And also it's very compact, so you can travel with this easily. I made some other lens reviews, so you can check them on my channel, maybe it could help you with the decision. ☺️

    I owned this lens in the far past. I bought it new, but I was never convinced with its unimpressive OSS, soft sharpness at full f/1.8 and high longitudinal chromatic aberration. Yesterday I decided to give this lens in combo with an ultra small A5100 a new chance Your pictures and footage are looking very nice in this video. I hope I will get a similar look in my pictures. I will take the small package with me in the holidays 🌎🏖

      This is a bit late, but by chance have you checked the software version for the lens ? Mine had V1, on the website they have a V2
      I ask because in February, I got from my son his A6000, he decided he liked film, anyway I too had small issues with the lens ( probably me making some of those issues )anyway I went to DL manual for the camera, and went also looking at updates and one for this lens was dated Jan. of 2023, so I updated the lens, this and my manual 55-105 canon have been my two main lenses since.

    I agree with you. With all the features of this lens, there isnt much of cons you can talk about. Its a perfect choice wether you're professional photographer or hobby. I'll this over the sigma because of the oss feature. Also, this native lens to the sony body, therefore, the autofocus and focusing in general will be more reliable than Sigma trio. However, Sigma still a great choice. I personally owned Sign 16mm 1.4. A bit wife for street photography but perfect choice for vlog and landscape photos.
    Thanks for an informative and great video.

    When you go close to the camera to check the autofocus and the part where there is the lady having her eyebrows done why do they look so different? Like different lense/camera? Is it the ratio or what is it? And how do i achieve that movie look you achieved with the lady having her eyebrows done with this lense? Any help is appreciated im really new to filmmaking so just learning! Great review!

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  9 месяцев назад

      Hi! Thank you for asking, i think i made all of the pictures with the 35mm f1.8. But i have to check it cause there is a chance that i made a mistake and i put a picture from my sigma 16mm. If that is the case than sorry for the missleading. If you are new in filmmaking i recommend to check my other lens reviews, cause you can see what can you achieve with different lenses. And if you’re hesitating what lens to buy, i recommend to rent it for a day from a local store and you can see what lens fits to your needs the most. I recommend to check a good zoom lens first like the sony 18-105 f4 and a good wide lens like the sigma 16mm f1.4 and then a lens for compression and details like the sony 35mm f1.8 but it heavily depends on your needs. I hope it helps you mate! Have a nice day! 🙏☺️

      Thanks! If you have some space in your room i can recommend it, cause your face looks more natural than with wider lenses. But most of the time i have to do my talking heads on my desk so i dont have much space . Its better for using as a dedicated studio lens, where you have more space. But if you ask me, i recommend more the sigma 16mm f1.4 instead of the Sony. I think thats the best talking head lens. If you check my channel you’ll find some reviews about the sigma. Nekem is a6400-am és egy 18-105 zoom objektívem van. Most tervezek venni egy fix, jó fényerejű objektívet és kezdő fotósként én is erre a 35mm-esre gondoltam. Most te is megerősítetted, hogy jó választás. Ha meglesz, remélem elég lesz ez a kettő és megállok ennyinél :) Remélem, hogy az OSS jobb, mint a 18-105-ben, mert azzal még nem nagyon sikerült kézből elfogadható videót készíteni.

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Год назад +2

      Köszönöm a kommentet :) Örülök, hogy hasznosnak találtad a videót. Szerintem a 35mm nagyon jó választás mind fotóra mind videóra. Főleg az f1.8-t nagyon jó használni. Az OSS rásegít, de sajnos a Sony nincs egy Panasonic szinten stabilizációban (legalább is az a6400-nál biztos nem). De szerencsére egy 35mm -es objektívet sokkal egyszerűbb kézben stabilan tartani mint a 18-105 -nél 105mm -en. Minél nagyobb a látószög annál kevésbé látszik, ha remeg a kép. Szóval szerintem nagyon haszons az OSS, de nem kell tőle azért csodákat várni. Érdemes használni nyakbeakasztót, ha kézből szeretnél videózni, mert úgy ha megfeszíted a nyakadon, akkor van +1 csatlakozási pont a testedhez, amivel könnyebben tudod stabilan tartani. De majd fogok csinálni egy videót, hogy hogyan tudsz kézből is stabil felvételeket készíteni. :) Ha van még kérdésed az objektívvel kapcsolatban, akkor ne tartsd magadban :D

      @@petersroom Köszi a választ! Jó ötlet a nyakpánt, meg egy kicsit még gyakorolni kell a stabil fogást, lassú mozdulatokat :)

    •  Год назад +2

      @@KovGab8408 Nekem egyik kedvenc objektívem. A Sigma 30mm 1.4- nek egy előnye van, nyitott rekesznél élesebb. A Sony AF jobb, gyorsabb pontosabb, OSS nagyon sokat szamít videónál. Nagyon kicsi és könnyű, talán a. legkisebb fenyerős OSS objektív, mindig nàlam van. OSS akkor jó és hatékony, ha keveset mozogsz vele, más esetben gimbal kell. Több mint 3 éve vettem, rengeteget használom.

      Hi! Yes, this is made for sony crop sensor cameras. You can use it on fullframe if your camera body has apsc mode, but i recommend to buy a fullframe lens instead of this. The full frame lens is Sony FE 35mm f/1.8. But keep in mind that the apsc 35mm looks like 50mm in fullframe, so if you want similar results like in this video, you need an around 50mm lens for fullframe. Like the Sony FE 50mm f1.8. • @petersroom

      I really like this lens, but sometimes I find it too tight too. The new apsc sigma 23mm is around 35mm on Fullframe which is one of my favorite focal length. It's so versatile, not too tight, not too wide. The faces are not that distorted like the sigma 16mm and you'll get more from the surroundings. If you want wider lenses, I can highly recommend it. But you can rent it for a day. Than you can decide more easily that you like it or not. I can recommend the sigma 16mm f1.4 too. If you want to try something wider. Have a nice day 😀

It opens your lens aperture and makes that shallow depth of field. But the shallowness depends on how you shoot. If you go close to your subject, it shows more. Thank you for asking!

      @@petersroom you are incredible, I was so confused in how to use it. But yes it worked. God bless you and appreciate the advice.
      May I ask, on my lense there’s a ring part that I can rotate right and left, what’s it for ?

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Год назад +1

      The lens ring called "focus ring". You can change your camera's focus settings from autofocus to manual focus. When you're using manual focus, you can adjust the focus point with that focus ring. Most of the time the autofocus is fine, but there are some situations when you want to avoid autofocus. For example, when you try to shoot through some plants to add intresting foreground to your image, but you want to focus to your subject instead of the foreground. In this case, i use manual focus, because the autofocus almost all the time try to focus to the plants. So i manually adjust with the ring and my focus stays on my subject. I hope it was understandable. Have nice day!

    Hi, I bought this lens second hand and found out that it has an old version of firmware, the official Sony website says that the product is not supported anymore and firmware 0.2 is no longer downloadable, can anyone tell me how to get this firmware?

      Yes! It has optical stabilization so its much easier to keep it steady. And also the autofocus is great. So i could recommend for videography. 👌

      Thanks mate! But i think you should not buy this lens for the a7c because its a Fullframe sensor camera and this lens is made for apsc sensors. You can use the a7c II in crop sensor mode, but you’ll lose a lot. So If you want similar capabilities on fullframe i recommend the FE 50mm f1.8 lens which is made for fullframe sensors.

    The biggest issue with this lens is heavy purple fringing and aberrations

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  Год назад +1

      Thank you for sharing your experience. 🙏 It doesn't bother me specially. My sigma 16mm f1.4 has more aberrations and I love that lens too. Anyway I can remove the most of it with one click in Lightroom, but I found digital cameras almost too "clean". So sometimes I like to add some interesting aberrations in the editing part. ✌️

    How does this review or user experience contradicts Christopher Frost review of this lens. According to Christopher Frost, the bokeh isn’t good and the OSS barely make a difference as shown with his test footage. Just a question. Anyway I respect your opinion. You have amazing content and a respectable RUclips channel. Like I really want to get this lens but the reviews are so mixed. For example I saw your other review on this lens and it looked so good I was sure to get this lens and then I saw Christopher’s vid and now I don’t like it. And I watch your video again and I want it. It’s blowing my mind

    • @petersroom
      @petersroom  5 дней назад

      Hi! Thank you for sharing! I can feel your pain. It could be very frustrating when you get mixed reviews. I really respect Christopher's work. I think he's very structured and he did a great review. He tested the different features really nice and made a conclusion that this lens optically is great or not compared to the "perfect". My video is not about the statistics. I shared my user experience how much i like this lens, and why I like it and also I showed my footage. And when you watch somebody enjoying using something and you can see the results, it causes that excitement, that you want to feel and do the same. And i call it "inspiration". I inspire you to make something. I go through a list of features, but real life is not about statistics and not in the paper. So a lens could be "bad" in paper, but it causes really nice user experience and stunning images. So I don't trust in the paper. It's like CPU stats. Now it's 20% faster and better and in real life when you just use excel and browsers, you cant feel sh*t from this 20% extra power. Otherways with the OSS He showed it in very specific situation, where he just stands and holds it and he said it's not a huge difference. (In this case i could also saw the differences) But if you turn off the stabilization and you go to stabilize in post, it could cause weird artifacts like wobbles. For example if you walking, you can clearly see how effective the oss and how much pain to stabilize in post. With the a6400 in 4k mode the rolling shutter is really bad and if you move a little with the camera you'll cause hard shakes. And shakes with the bad rolling shutter causes really bad wobble artifacts. And you couldnt remove it from post. So if the oss softens the shakes, the image could be much more usable in the end. So there are other situations where the oss could makes a huge difference and i really appreciate that this lens has. I watched a lot of reviews before, but you only get opinions from others. And for me the bokeh is enough and for others it's not. Or if a lens a little bit sharper next to the other or it handles the chromatic aberration better, but for me it's not important, because nowadays almost every lenses are near "perfect" in optics. There are no horrible casting or distortion and it's not dull like a spoon. I think i could make really similar results with a tech sharp lens and with a "not that sharp" lens: look at my sigma and kit lens comparison here: ruclips.net/video/roIx6Kn21qc/видео.html So i think you should not choose to buy a lens or not because of the sharpness or the chromatic aberration, because in the end you couldnt tell the difference. Or check this one where i compare the a7s3 with the a6400 at 3:42 ruclips.net/video/T8uJarZ4T6g/видео.html Even me I cant tell which camera and lens is which. Or here at 4:50 ruclips.net/video/7G4WrUygGsE/видео.html . So in the end i really enjoyed using that lens. And if you're hesitating to buy it, you could rent it for a day from a local store (where i live it's around 10$ for a day) which could help you to decide that you want it or not. No stress :D
