Great review! I shoot most of my cinematic video’s with the Sony a6000 + sel 35mm 1,8 OSS lens. Really sharp lens and great performance, especially at low light situations!
Hello George. I'm starting to prepare my trip around Japan and so, I will buy my first camera. I'm not a vlogger, I just want to take some good photos. I chose the a6000, but I have doubts regarding which lens I should choose, if the kit lens (16-50mm), or 35mm f1. 8 (or other). As I'm quite new to photography, and I still have a lot to learn and to experiment so, which one you think is the best choice for me? Thank you Awesome video btw :)
If you're new, just experiment with your kit lens first, walk around and take photos, simulate you're doing a trip, maybe go to nearby city, village, scenic place, etc. SHOOT RAW&JPEG! When you come back, look at the focal length you're using the most. Software like lightroom and such can easily look at that info. This is rule of thumb. If you're fond of architectural you'll will surely see that you're around low 16mm spectrum. If you're on the street between building, you'll probably end up around 20-30mm. If you're taking picture of person you'll be around 30-50mm. Never get fullframe sensor advice for apsc, they behave very differently, 1.5x of that. 16-50 kit is adequate but flagship phone 2018-2019 has decent quality to justify using the phone exclusively (light, simple, etc). Even worse you should get at least f/2 or f/1.8, otherwise you can't really catch up with exposure (phone also mostly uses below f/2). It becomes a pitfall of money sucking from there on. Never buy 50mm for your first apsc lens unless you're into that kind of work as that's very narrow for most place, mostly for potrait.
@@trym2121 You just answered all my questions! The advices you gave me here are priceless. Will make sure to save your reply somewhere in my PC :) I have to confess that I've been wondering if a decent smartphone couldn't be, for now, the best option for me (as I really need to upgrade my current phone). I would love to get into photography, but saving for a big and expensive trip, and also a new phone, is not that easy. Also, the new Sony a6100 will be released soon. Will keep an eye on future promotions... who knows when I can give the big step in photography. Thank you for your time.
@@FilmsByZapata I'm not asking him to make a short movie or anything, just taking random clips to show off the key features and capabilities, you know, like any other reviews... Its the OSS lens he's reviewing after all.
I just picked up the Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM SAL35F18 at a yard sale! Is it possible to get a adapter to make this lens work on my Canon T6i DSLR camera?
No, it would be 35mm. On aps-c being a crop sensor. You multiply the focal length by 1.5, thus giving an equivalent focal length of 50mm. This would only apply if you had a full frame 35mm lens that would cover the full frame sensor. Like the Zeiss 35mm 2.8. If this lens was used on the a7, then it would crop the sensor. Pointless to use on a full frame, as it is designed for crop sensor only.
Well this is a crop lens made for the a6000 series, so you can only use it in crop mode on your A7 which doesn't make much sense. I'd return it and get the full frame version.
What? 16mm is always going to have a much larger field of view than 35mm. Of course the 16mm is going to be wider. A prime lens has no zoom, it is always only 35mm.
Hi Lizzie! Unfortunately no you can't use that on the a7iii as that is a full frame camera, and this is a APSC lens. However, you can check out the 35mm lens for your a7iii here: www.georges.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=Sony%20FE%2035mm%20
terrible review. show, don't tell. when you talk about the bokeh, etc show actual samples. even your samples were not that good. there werent even any low light samples.
Thanks for this review. I am using this lens 90% of the time on the Sony A6000. Great image quality and sharpness.
Hi Jit. What lens do you use the last 10% and for what kind of photos does the 35mm 'not work'?
Great review!

an OSS lens review without a single video sample in it. thank you very much for the help.
Stupid question, but as this is an apsc lens, does that mean it's actually 35mm, or still suffers the 1.5x crop factor
1.5x on top of the 35mm. So it means this lens is ca 52mm.
Very Nice Information, what about Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens for a6400 ? Thanks

This is my go-to lens for my older nex5 and now mt a6100
35mm oss f1.8 + A6000 perfect math
You did a review of an OSS lens, with the a6300, but dont even bother with video test? Really?
not everybody has what it takes to shoot a good video lol

Its the OSS lens he's reviewing after all.
Ahhh gotcha
absolutely right.
What is the mic u used and cam in this video
yes! I know I am right about the vignetting. Do think this lens is worth buying because of the vignetting fact?
I just picked up the Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM SAL35F18 at a yard sale! Is it possible to get a adapter to make this lens work on my Canon T6i DSLR camera?
thanks, you convinced me to buy sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn
LOL
Why when taking pictures does it have a circle round the picture with this lense?
Will this work on the new Sony A7C ?
so if i were to put this 35mm lens on an a7 it would be 50mm in that camera?

Do you notice a continuous noise when shutter press half way to get focus?
Hi can you do the yongnuo YN 35mm f/2 S DF DSM for sony e-mount lens review
Can this be used on Sony's A7 series or only on their APS-Cs?
yes but it will be cropped
Which lens should I use for filming?
I would like to ask if I bought this lens for my a7 mark 3 accidentally, should I buy back FE version?
Well this is a crop lens made for the a6000 series, so you can only use it in crop mode on your A7 which doesn't make much sense. I'd return it and get the full frame version.
Which is better for video woth the a6500, this lens of the sigma 30mm 1.4
It's late but it's sigma. Sony is really suck at doing IBIS+OSS. As you're using A6500, just get all the sigma trio, none of sony primes
@@trym2121 would you recommend me the sigma 30mm 1.4 too? I want it especially for videos and I will use a gimbal
@@bigman9979 I use the 16mm sigma 1.4 with the Zhiyun weebill s. That's pretty cool actually
Great review! What is the music that you guys used at the start of the video?
thx from Germany
Dope, honest review! Thank you!
What is the one used in video
Hello! This lens = ~50mm full frame lens?
I think he got that backward. 35mm at full frame is comparable to 50 on a crop sensor.
A full frame has a ~1.5x wider field of view b.c. of the bigger sensor: 50/1.5 = ~ +-35✔
Is it true that ist zoomed in already? I just got it and find the 16-50 is way more zoomed out
What? 16mm is always going to have a much larger field of view than 35mm. Of course the 16mm is going to be wider. A prime lens has no zoom, it is always only 35mm.
@@jordanjoestar8839 haha yes i get it now. Im a newby and had no idea what i all meant. Very happy with the 35 1.8 though
Sigma 56mm 1.4 or sony 35mm f1.8?
Hi, will this lens work on my a5100? thank you
Yes.
how the hack you make pictures with f4 when your lens are 1.8?
❤❤❤❤Good Information Sony Lens 35mm ❤❤❤❤❤
You’re glasses are really cute.
do this work with sony a7r iii
Can you use this on the a7iii?

Is this a crop sensor lens?
yes. if u use this on a full frame camera, it will still be cropped.
Damn I thought you were Kai for a second then I heard the voice
CAN THIS LENS WORK WITH A A7III?
no, that's a full frame. This is apsc lens. You will know from the FE and E in each of product name. FE for full frame and E for apsc
It works but the A7III will crop to APS-C
Can I zoom in prime lens??
you zoom in by moving yourself closer to your subject. A prime lens is a fixed lens with no zoom.
Twinkle Khandelwal surprisingly, Sony a6000 has a feature of zooming even with this 35mm lens! Look it up on RUclips!
hello, thanks for your review, i think that"s very nice performance from the lens, bu can i use it for closeup flogging?
thankyou dude
Yes, it can. It will show the more of your surroundings and with the OSS feature it will make your video stable when you walking around.
Flogging? Who are you flogging? =)
terrible review. show, don't tell. when you talk about the bokeh, etc show actual samples. even your samples were not that good. there werent even any low light samples.
is it apsc lens?
