- This is segment 2 of the "Secretariat: Timing Is Everything" show that premiered on ESPN.com on 5/18/13. Hosted by Barry Abrams, the show documents the controversy and resolution of the timing problem in the 1973 Preakness, won by Secretariat. Panelists include Penny Chenery, Ron Turcotte, Steve Davidowitz, and Charlsie Cantey.

Secretariat is the most wonderful champion the horse racing society has ever seen. He will never have his records broken, unless our creator decides we need another hero for the people to rally behind. People who were not even born when these races were run, watch the films of his races in the triple crown and get tears in their eyes. Secretariat was a miracle horse.

Very well said. I was born two years after his Triple Crown win and it brings me to tears every time I watch him. There will never be another Secretariat. I am grateful there are videos of this magnificent horse. I wish I could have seen him in person.

I am so in love with the horse that God made. From birth to death he had so many champion characteristics. I'm so grateful they made the movie which depicts his life fairly closely. He is the greatest race horse ever and will never be surpassed.
There will be beautiful glorified horses in HEAVEN! But there will be NO need for PROFANITY to describe them! HALLELUJAH! 🙏🙌

Before anyone puts a bit in a horse's mouth, put it in your own and yank it back until YOU smile. A "Bitless Bridle" which is essentially a halter can accomplish the same thing. Pass the word PLEASE!

I've never understood why they can't time this race by the video and prove it I don't understand doesn't make sense just run the video in time it then we'll know nobody will be cheated that way
The real hero of Meadow Stable was not Secretariat , It was his stablemate RIVA RIDGE , who in his own right was a very good horse who kept Meadow Stable from bankruptcy . He won seventeen of thirty races and was the two year old champion. He also won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes the year before Secretariat and if it wouldn’t have rained the day of the Preakness he might have been the Triple Crown winner that year . He was ridden by Ron Turcotte also . Not bad five Triple Crown wins in six starts . Enough said ?
