  • Growing up in a house where horse racing was an everyday activity the name Secretariat was mentioned more than a few times. Until recently I never really knew what he actually achieved in his short career. I watched the movie and It inspired me to find out all that I could about this amazing animal. The more I found out, the more I could not believe what this horse had accomplished. He is an amazing athlete and an inspiration. Thank you Big Red, I for one will never forget you.... Rest In Peace.....

I Never get tired of watching Secretariat's video's. He will ALWAYS be the Greatest horse that ever raced. I was a kid when Secretariat ran for the Rose's and I will never forget his unbelieveable performance in the Belmont stakes. The announcer made comments like..."Secretariat is moving like a tremendous machine." and, " it's Secretariat! He's all alone!" I can still hear the announcer to this day. I Love You Secretariat!!!

What made his run in the Belmont so magnificent, was the fact that he ran as fast as he wanted for as long as he wanted. The jockey never asked him for more than he was giving. He was doing it for the pure joy of running.

That's an easy question to answer. No one beat Secretariats times in all three of the triple crown. Ever. That's what record times mean. No one ever beat them ever. Not on a fast track or a slow track not with a fast field or a slow field. It just never happened before or since. CF was an awesome horse, but not even close to Secretariat. Oh and yes I am a fan of Secretariat. Unapologetic fan.

I tell you truthfully that whenever I feel down, when the world seems too much, I watch that video of Secretariat at the Belmont. Hello America from England. I've just been watching Secretariat for the first time. My goodness what a magnificent horse he was. No wonder you are all so proud of him. His story reminded me of a great Irish horse from the 60s who also broke many records. I've been viewing a lot of the old horse races over the past couple years, checking out other sites like Horse Racing Nation, etc., and you would be surprised how many people out there who do not love him, and criticize him for his losses without recognizing the well documented factors that contributed to those losses (illness, severe impediment, questionable DQ). He is my favorite of all time, but who knows who really was the greatest -- maybe Secretariat, maybe Man O' War, maybe Phar Lap from Australia. Who knows? In an odd way, maybe it's a good thing that Sec didn't race at 4 so there actually is debate as to who was the greatest. If he did race at 4, I think we would have seen absolutely surreal things and there would hardly be a debate.

I would agree that there are too many Secretariat fans who don't entertain the discussion of other great racehorses. There are many who do though. I would completely disagree on the Preakness issue. It was forensically analyzed in order to arrive at the correct time. It's a case of modern technology correcting an egregious human error. Statistical analysis shows that Secretariat's sum running time for the three triple crown races adjusted for track speed was nearly five standard deviations faster than the average sum adjusted winning time for the three races. Since the triple crown races occur only once each year, that means that a repeat of Secretariat's feat would be expected to occur about once every two million years. We will never see another like him.

As like the landing on the moon, 1980 Olympic games against the Soviet union in Ice Hockey
Two important things to me. I remember like it was yesterday watching Secretariat win Triple Crown. Belmont was a race that was out of this world. And while watching the race even as young as I was. I knew I was watching something special. And I was pretty sure it would never happen again. What a honor. What a horse. I would be curious to watch some reaction videos of people that's never even heard of that horse. Be like the kids today watching Larry Bird play basketball amazing

Forego was much more developed by the Belmont but the owners agreed with you and didn't run him. He would at least have run second and sitting off that speed duel, who knows? He was the only horse who could have given him a run. Two other horses beat Secretariat later that year: Onion and Prove Out.

But, I must say, the music leaves a lot to be desired. It really takes away from truly enjoying this video. I believe if the music would be redone, the video would be much better viewed.

You owe it to yourselves to read Bill Nack’s love story about Secretariat written for Sports Illustrated in 1990. It’s titled “ Pure Heart” and it’s the best article I have ever read in the magazine. I’ve been a subscriber for almost 60 years. He was the perfect horse.

In the Belmont it was just unbelievable because horses only run that fast when they’re normally being pushed by other horses he was all alone and never started running slower he just kept running faster and faster with nobody behind him and I’ve never in all the races I’ve watched never saw a horse ever do that they always run faster because they’re being pushed he was being pushed by God

The greatest horse ever foled the world wept ( I did like a child) when he died. I was around at 12 going on 13 years old & watched all 3 races. It’s was an honor and privilege to see him run. His lope was so great it was as winged Pegasus flying. It was such a thing of beauty I cried during the last part of the Belmont stakes. I’m not ashamed to admit that ppl if you were around to see him run I bet you cried too.
