      What a gift. I wish I had been old enough to have seen this magnificent athlete with my own eyes. I was only a child of 5 when this most magnificent horse ran for the world. I've been watching him today at 55 years old because he brought so much joy to millions. There will never be another Secretariat. If you decide to respond back do let me know what that experience brought to your life. He brings me joy to my own life and transcends me to better time in my own life.

    I picked Secretariate in the Derby and my dad thought it was funny. I picked Secretariate in the Preakness and my dad thought I was lucky. I picked Secretariate in the Belmont and my dad spent the rest of his life telling everyone how his daughter had picked Secretariate to win the Triple Crown. There will never be a horse with a heart that big, and a desire to run so strong.

    Eddie Sweat, who's nickname was Shorty. I believe He is the reason Secretariat was such a Happy Horse. So little respect is given to the Grooms who spend all of their time loving, caring & pampering the horses. Sometimes they even sleep in the stall to keep the horses safe. I will be forever Grateful to Eddie, for taking care of my Favorite Horse. Eddie has since passed away, but take heart knowing he is in Heaven, taking care of Big Red. God Bless You, Eddie!

    I was 22 years old when Secretariat ran the Belmont. It was the most spiritual experience I ever had in my life. I swear that I saw God on my TV set pushing Secretariat around the track and I began to cry as did so many others. They must have seen or felt His presence as well because that was what most people did that day. Since then, I have never doubted the existence of God and I have never doubted why He created Secretariat. Not that we might praise Him but that we might praise His creations.

    Never tire of watching clips of this magnificent horse running on wings.
    Were they ever able to breed his sire and dam? It's ok God showed what true perfection is. At least once in our lifetime. I will never forget watching him run tears streaming down my face, totally in awe of how he seemed to effortless eat the ground and finally let us mortals see what he was capable of doing. That in fact he was probably the most perfect horse ever.

    Thank you sharing that story:-) People today don't understand the significance of Secretariat...I do:-) His significance can't be measured...because it will only happen once...and it will never happen again. He brought an entire nation to tears...and people who weren't even around in 1973...cry watching it 40 years later. Everything about Secretariat was supernatural...the Belmont made us mortals realize that the perfection we all strive for...happened on June 9, 1973.

My grandparents were up for a visit and my grandfather was SO excited about the upcoming Kentucky Derby, even as an 8 year old I can remember it. Nobody else in Heaven can ride the horse that Jesus rides. I have to believe that the horse that Jesus rides is Secretariat. Beautiful video!!! He had God given speed and stamina unmatched to this day. But the love that was bestowed on him by Penny, Eddie, Lucien and Ronnie, along with the whole of Claiborne farms filled his heart to epic proportion. There will be great horses, but there will never be another Secretariat!!

    Can't say I'm a fan of 'Penny' speaking about her horse as a 'product'. He was a magnificent soul as far as I'm concerned.

    Normally I prefer the action videos to the slideshows but the way you have put this one together is stunning! Just really awesome and emotional. I'll be back for sure. I fell in love with this horse as a 21 year old young girl and I've never been able to give my heart to another equine! I do hope however that I'll Have Another will win tomorrow, I believe he can do it and I believe if we really cheer him on and want him to win he will, and I believe Big Red wants him to win too!!

      I hoped for that too. They took good care of him in Japan and now at his current farm. I hope when he retires he goes to Old Friends so I can meet him.🥰🏇🐎👑👑🏆🌟💛

    Don't waste your time with that guy Jason. MOW beat 14 horses his last 10 races and his best competition was a horse named John P Grier who is not even ranked in the top 500 horses. He carried weight because his competition was so back. He can just sit there and speculate how fast MOW was but he will never know. Secretariat was and always will be the greasiest of all time and nobody comes close.

    • @bbmtge
      @bbmtge 4 года назад

      To add some perspective to your comment, in the 1920 Dwyer MOW carried 126 pounds and John Grier only 108. John Grier could not run the 9 furlongs in under 1:50. That is an allowance horse performance.
      According to Abram Hewitt, in his book "Sire Lines", and as you stated, John Grier was the second best horse of the 1917 crop and was thus at least 18 pounds inferior to MOW. That disparity was not only unheard of in Sec era, it was unheard of in the 1920's.
      MOW really did not race per se, he just ran.
      One could only imagine the criticism of Sec if his connections continually placed him in March races against horses so inferior he could not lose.
      That is a more accurate portrait of MOW career.

    I didn’t know who he was until my husband who loved horses and betting and going to the track or the flat in New Jersey. He told me who he was and we watched him on TV for the derby and the Preakness and then through horse friends of his he got tickets to the Belmont and we went as a first anniversary trip and I have to say that other than having my children it was the most exciting day in my life. I can still feel the excitement. I fell in love with him over the TV and when I saw him in person I was completely in love and today every time I see something on RUclips, I watch it to bring back that feeling, the sound, the screaming that went on while he was circling that felt like, he was going to take off. I mean he was still racing after the finish line he could have gone on for another half mile. He didn’t want to stop and I am sorry they didn’t raise him in his fourth year when he was more developed because he loved to run. . That’s what made him happy and I think he would’ve shown us even more.

    I had the honor of meeting this magnificent horse at the Kentucky horse park, his handler was surprised that he did not try to bite me when I went into his stall at the barn of fame, I told him he knew that I would've bit him back! I kissed him on his "velvet", he had soulful eyes, just such a gorgeous boy! my heart broke when he passed away later that year.

    Do the math.
    Belmont record 2:24, which still stands 42 years later. Next fastest winner, 2:26.0, a difference of 2.4 seconds. At a 37 mph average, and a 36 mph last furlong, and given that an average horse 'length' is considered to be 8 ft, Secretariat would have finished 13 lengths in front of the next fastest Belmont winner, and 17 lengths in front of American Pharoah.
    AMAZING!!

    • @bbmtge
      @bbmtge 8 лет назад +1

      +John Berger You have to take the average speed over the entire race for every horse. In that manner, his margin of victory is far greater.

    I still love to see him. The video of him winning the Belmont is a special treat, but all of his videos are wonderful. btw, I have to stop myself from capitalizing the "h" every time I say "him" or "his." Maybe I won't keep trying. Secretariat is truly Divinity. God chose Secretariat as one of His truly perfect creatures, and we lesser beings are eternally grateful.

      +Misty Lou Yes he was. I visited Claiborne in 1980, just to see him. He was taken out of his stall for photos, and some of us got to pet him. He was friendly, and very quiet until they turned him out into his paddock. Then he let it rip!!!! He was awesome.
