      The only place where FCA lags: engine options. The competition is getting tough, and the PW (RAM Rebel) really needs and engine option to distinguish itself from the rest of it's more pedestrian siblings, and to stay current. I say bring over the 6.2: V-8 Hellcat engine and spread the joy around. Even a slightly detuned version would declare the PW undisputed king of the hill, and turn the competition green with envy. I say 2020 would be a very good year.

  • @Footloose301
    @Footloose301 5 лет назад +4

    I understand this is an off road vehicle first, but you guys mentioned 1100 lb payload capacity which makes the truck almost useless for many towing applications. Say you want to take your family camping and you’ve got your wife and two kids with you and that’ll take up say 700 lbs leaving you with just 400 lbs leftover for tongue weight of your trailer and camping gear. Or even worse is if you and your family want to simply put an ATV in the bed of the truck and go have fun at an ATV park you’re possibly over payload capacity!

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight 5 лет назад +2

      Well, it's not supposed to be a do-everything, no sacrifice vehicle, it's primary an off-road vehicle that gives up capacity for its off-road abilities. Still, you at least can do some towing and hauling with it, and you at least have options for lighter, lower spec and higher capacities.

    • @jamesvelvet3612
      @jamesvelvet3612 5 лет назад +1

      My guess is someone is confusing "cargo capacity" with "payload capacity". They are different. Cargo capacity is the rating of well, cargo. The calculus takes into account the following: 150lb person in each of the available seats. Say a ruck has 6 seats x 150 lbs each. That is 900 lbs. Those 900 lbs are deducted from the payload capacity and leaves a cargo capacity {what you can put in the bed) of 1,100 lbs. Otherwise, six big dudes would exceed the weight this truck could carry. If I am wrong and the payload is less than a Ridgeline or minivan then Fiat needs to go back to the drawing board ;-)

      Ya, I am just baffled as to why FCA didn't just put air bags on the back along with the factory coils. Then the truck does everything. I added bags on my 16 PW and it does everything a regular 3/4 does. Only cost me 300 for the bags, put em on myself, and they made it a beast and it did nothing to my flex. I regularly play hard off-road and then go put 14,000 lbs on the ball when I grab the trailer and excavator and go make those green stamps. Have to make all that money so I can pay in my account down at the gas station owner's place. Lol

      Power wagon is super at slow crawling and articulation situations. Raptor is good at a very large spectrum of off-roading.
      Would be a very interesting video. I’d love to see them put side by side on some extreme steep terrain testing traction and also some real articulation tests as well as some mud and water tests.

      IMO - for paved streets, sand, off road high speed driving and just everyday driving the Gen 2 Raptor wins.
      For towing, mudding, work, low speed, bad gravel roads, hauling and low speed technical trails the Power wagon rules plus it costs much less and is more ready to use right off the showroom floor.

    Has Chrysler released the official fording depth for the PowerWagon? Usually manufacturers will say the fording depth is as deep as the middle of the hubs, and it has to do with the differential vents that are usually located on top of the differential themselves. Submerge those vents, and you'll let muddy water into your diffs - not good! BUT, it's possible that RAM has relocated the diff vents on the Powerwagon to the higher location - a common aftermarket mod on off-road vehicles that will be doing a lot of fording. It would be cool if that's what they have done.

      It’s actually a completely different engine than the SRT. Different camshaft, intake manifold, and cylinder heads (Eagle on PW vs. Apache on SRT). HP = torque x rpm / 5252. On an off road truck, it makes no sense to build the peak torque at 4,500+ rpm (like a max effort g3 Hemi). Low lift and mild duration cam + eagle heads give it a relatively low torque peak and more power in the rpms the truck will be used when off road. Btw I have a 15’ PW.
