On two occasions I have actually seen the Raptor be better than the Powerwagon crawling up steep grades in test drives. It had the testers a bit confused. The Raptor diff can be locked up front as well by depressing the brakes which is a feature of the torsen diff. The raptors suspension gives it more bite when climbing and having no diff hanging down up front allows it to get through mud better as well. It also has very good articulation but not as good as Power wagon. So the Power wagon is really only better at 1 aspect off road and even then not by much. 9 out 10 scenarios have the Raptor being superior. Unless you count the winch. And then there is the work ability which is far and away superior in the Wagon. If just off roading get a Raptor, if you want more than a toy get a Wagon
Falcon 4917 I’ve heard the ride is a lot better in the Raptor on the road than the Power Wagon as well which makes a big difference , besides the fact that the Raptor retains its value better. I drive a 2016 Rebel and was hoping to upgrade to a 2020 Rebel (when the time comes) but for $150 more per month I can have a Raptor which won’t depreciate as poorly.
@@mjg6377 yeah forgot about ride quality. Depreciation is a big factor as well. I agree. The Raptor truly is a standalone when it comes to trucks and not all that many people need 3/4 ton capabilities
@@Falcon-mc5fs If you play in areas with rocks/off camber scenarios the Power Wagon will keep going where as the Raptor will stop. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the Gen 2 Raptor having a lockable front. Go try doing an off camber obstacle climb, the front will one wheelie peely all day no matter what you do with your brake pedal.
@@WilliamStewart1 no the one wheel peele won't happen if you depress the brake and throttle at the same time. It is a lock that is used only on torsen diffs. Even the gen 1 had the feature. The Hummer H1 has the same feature. There is a group in Arizona that runs raptors in rock crawling tours. The only true advantage off road for the power wagon is articulation.
So is it safe to say that Ford has better off roading trucks across the board ( F150 FX4 package). I'm asking cause I'm looking at the FX4 or Tundra TRD Off-road or Pro
Unless its changed for 2019, my 2016 PW can use the lockers in low range only. and I know this is just a grab and go review comparison, but for things like washboarding and anything on the trail, I air my tires down to 30 PSI when on dirt, the PW has special rims to resist bead disengagement(not bead locks) this helps TREMENDOUSLY with the whoops and washboards, since the factory tires are an HD light truck tire they use a pressure thats typically good for roads but not for off road.
Ummmmm... I have a 2018 ram power wagon and it takes forever to get the differentials locked. Also you have to be in 4 low for them to engage. Did they change something here because you said it had to be in 4 high and while you were engaging the lockers you were going pretty fast.
Assuming it was the washed out course that foiled this test, yet still it appears there were opportunities in the area to show some more technical terrain or off road trails to test the limits of what these types of trucks are capable of and perhaps reach their limits. What you showed was a walk in the park for either truck, barely scratching the surface of their respective capabilities. It still managed to be a fun video to watch however.
If you want to know the real world off road difference between those two, listen to the segment at 11:40 where the guy in the Power Wagon's voice is trembling as he bounces off the rocks, immediately followed buy the guy in the Raptor saying "it's bumpy" over (presumably) the same road and he's not being jostled around at all.
I had a raptor in my comment is not fast enough! So I traded it in and eventually went for a 2019 Ford super crew Roush with the 5.0 supercharged motor and now that brought the fun back
Carlos Lago Yea but the Power Wagon is more like a heavy duty Jeep truck. It’s more at home crawling over rough terrain than blasting through the desert.
I'd prefer the raptor because of it's blue recaro seats and the ford performance blue exterior inside out and it is faster than the power wagon when it is set to baja mode!
This test did not put the Raptor and Power Wagon in tests that weren't heavily in favor of Raptor performance advantages. I love both trucks, but I put my money on a new 2018 Power Wagon last July and have never been so happy with a truck. 12 months and 30k miles and I do not have a single thing I don't like. This coming from a guy who likes Ford products and drove them exclusively for 34 years.
How can we get to see 5Liter challenge/drag-race between; 2020 GMC Sierra 5.3/10speed, 2020 Ford &150 5.0/10speed, 2020 Ram 5.7, 2020 Nissan Titan 5.7, 2020 Toyota Tundra 5.6, 2020 Chevy Silverado 5.3/10speed
It's not a great video. If you understand truck classes this isn't meant to happen. That Power Wagon belongs to a higher tier while the Raptor is a lower tier for their weight ratings. As always I'm fond of people comparing apples to oranges.
@@1234567890ZETA LMAO - "this isn't meant to happen" - are you joking? Who gives a crap about tiers. Enjoy a video even if pits an apple against an orange. It might be fun to watch if you stop with the "this can't be happening" mentality. Just because you spent all your money on a Power Wagon and can't stand to watch it be compared with other trucks, don't hate on them. You should rethink saying videos are not good when you look at your own Power Wagon and Lego videos.
Wait til the ram rebel TRX comes out, a ram raptor with king shocks and a hellcat motor. I’d still rather have a PW, wish they offered a cummins powered PW. I bought a 2016 cummins and put some 37’s, a Thuren suspension setup and ARB lockers next. Will be what the PW should have been from the factory
Couple quick qeustions: did the raptor have the torsen front option? Did you air down on either? It's nice for the raptor, but it's a must for the power wagon because their stock pressures are waaay too high for off roading on account of it being a 3/4 ton and meant for loading. One more comment - can you talk about that claimed 14.2 inches of ground clearance on the ram? It's got 33 inch tires and an 11.5 inch rear ring gear in a solid axle housing. the math doesn't add up. 33/2 = 16.5 inches. 11.5/2 = 5.75 inches. 16.5 - 5.75 =/= 10.75 inches from ground to the bottom of the rear ring...to say nothing of the housing. What are you trying to pull ram?
The Raptor has a bit more clearance under the ring gear yes, I don't take it these guys actually know anything about these sorts of things though, most likely just read the brochure and then go filming. The PW has more bumper/body clearance though which may have them mixed up.

I liked the colume shifter as well, but to be fair they where notorious for problems, and I havent heard about any problems with the dial so far, I think the tradesman power wagon still offers the colume shifter.
SKULL0FD3ATH not any more. If you get an 8 speed you get a dial. Only 6 speeds have the column. The column shifter doesn’t work with the zf8. I would rather have the bad ass 8 and a dial imo.
Samson Reynolds same I would like both as well, was hoping they would have the dial was only a option, but car journalists bitch constantly how vehicles need more tech and imho I think we need less of it, because if we keep going this route every single vehicle is going to rely on tech like the damn shitty land rovers.
Two entirely different technologies and trucks. Both trucks are top of the line for their market niche'. the Raptor is a desert racer and the Power Wagon is a no bar holds off road 4x4. If you want to play, driving fast on dirt roads or dry lake beds, the Raptor is your only choice, and if you want a true off-road truck without the speed, the Power Wagon can't be beat. Where I live in Utah, people have both Ram Power Wagons and Raptors. A vast majority of Raptors here, are owned by younger people who mainly uses them for cruising main street on Friday nights, or status symbols. The Power Wagons here are actually used for their intended purpose and are what's used to get you off-road. In my line of work, I travel a lot off road and I'm certainly not knocking the capability of the Raptor, but the Power Wagon is just plain and simply, a better off-road vehicle, hands down.
why when comparing the raptor do they always mention the raptor not having a front locking diff but always fail to mention it does have a front torsen limited slip diff which is not far off from a locking diff in capabilities?

Raptor vs. Rivian. It's coming and it sounds like a great movie. I'm making popcorn...
Ummmmm... I have a 2018 ram power wagon and it takes forever to get the differentials locked. Also you have to be in 4 low for them to engage. Did they change something here because you said it had to be in 4 high and while you were engaging the lockers you were going pretty fast.
Why would you want lockers when going fast? The lockers are for helping you rock crawl and what no.
Thank u. It hard to find video where u see these big rigs getting trashed. Awesome.
Power Wagon DON'T CARE! ❤
For me, I'd pick the Ram, it can tow more and do more than just be a toy.
true that power wagon is amazing but it comes no where near the performance of the raptor in the desert and how much fun it can be
I had a raptor in my comment is not fast enough! So I traded it in and eventually went for a 2019 Ford super crew Roush with the 5.0 supercharged motor and now that brought the fun back
But are they going to last me a while before i have to start fixing things??
lil layzie93 no lol
Nothing lasts when you play to hard with it. Though 2500 suspension might last a little longer.
Power wagon should last longer since its using Heavy Duty truck parts, where the raptor is using full size.
They should compare the Ford Super Duty Tremor against the Ram Power Wagon.
Power wagon destroys the tremor
Besides a steep buy-in, fuel consumption's likely to clean your clock...
you dont buy these trucks for fuel mileage
Wouldn’t the Ram Rebel be a better match up?
Yup!
Rebel is closer to F-150 FX4 than Raptor
Carlos Lago Yea but the Power Wagon is more like a heavy duty Jeep truck.
It’s more at home crawling over rough terrain than blasting through the desert.
17:25 Hillary for Prison Info Wars sticker lololololol
Awesome review
I'd prefer the raptor because of it's blue recaro seats and the ford performance blue exterior inside out and it is faster than the power wagon when it is set to baja mode!
Vincent Vaughan of course, it’s a no brainer.
6:46 came close
Damn I wish we had roads like that in Ohio
This test did not put the Raptor and Power Wagon in tests that weren't heavily in favor of Raptor performance advantages.
I love both trucks, but I put my money on a new 2018 Power Wagon last July and have never been so happy with a truck. 12 months and 30k miles and I do not have a single thing I don't like. This coming from a guy who likes Ford products and drove them exclusively for 34 years.
How can we get to see 5Liter challenge/drag-race between;
2020 GMC Sierra 5.3/10speed,
2020 Ford &150 5.0/10speed,
2020 Ram 5.7,
2020 Nissan Titan 5.7,
2020 Toyota Tundra 5.6,
2020 Chevy Silverado 5.3/10speed
More videos like this please.
I'll have the Raptor on the rocks please.
Double Oh 7 _ good luck taking it through a car wash
@@traineresports726 don't cry beta male. MAGA 2020
@Cringes I would hand wash that sucker myself. Those drive through car washes scratch up the paint badly.
Great video. Solid comparison.
Did you have a preference for which truck you would want to own?
Batman would buy both to make his own BatTruck
It's not a great video. If you understand truck classes this isn't meant to happen. That Power Wagon belongs to a higher tier while the Raptor is a lower tier for their weight ratings. As always I'm fond of people comparing apples to oranges.
They should have done some rock crawling like the power wagon is made for.
…and way too heavy!
@@WilliamStewart1 i know Dan actually knows his way around a truck, but sometimes i think even the best will simply take the manufacturer at their word
All Gen 2 Raptors have the Torsen posi front axle.
@@2003evodave as an option. From the Ford media site "Final drive front axle ratio (optional) 4.10:1 w/TORSEN® Differential" the standard front is a 4:10 open. Also a torsen isn't a posi. Different technologies, both lsds
Loved the video. Used to be partial to the raptor and still love it but got me a 2019 Ram 1500 limited so it would be a tough call but Power Wagon by a nose. BUT the RAM Rebel TRX!!! Game over!!!
Ram Rebel trx vs Shelby Baja Raptor.
6:50 whats up with the ram front bumper🤔
It’s not a locker, but the Raptor has a Torsten limited-slip differential in the front.
My wife and I Test drove the ram while the interior was downright gorgeous it just didn’t get our blood pumping.
Great content guys !
Did the 19 Power Wagon have a front camera option?
What possessed Ram to have a knob in lieu of a gear shifter?
Centredoorplugs Thornton I hate column shift. I always go one too far or too high. The dial is so easy. Just a flick of the wrist.
Only thing I can complain about with my new PW.
Looks great!! What is the durability of the wrap resistance against rock chips n such from gravel roads? Just curious?
MOPAR BABY ,,,,, RAM POWER WAGON.....I LOVE IT,,,,, I WANT A FULLY LOADED JET BLACK ON BLACK....
.
*Fiat
I want a blue on black... this truck is in my price range im seriously considering it
Brett Barnes furd = shit
Nothing can really compare to a raptor, it's of it's own league in the truck industry.
Very fun video to watch! 👍
Why did he try donuts with the rear locked on the Power Wagon... Does donuts just fine in 2wd..
Very nice comparo Edmunds! Very high quality vid!
Raptor is best truck ever made. So mean and just another level.
why when comparing the raptor do they always mention the raptor not having a front locking diff but always fail to mention it does have a front torsen limited slip diff which is not far off from a locking diff in capabilities?
