    I typically like your reviews and am a fan of the channel. Being from Wisconsin and having lived in Colorado for 4 years, I can relate. But I have never seen an Outback perform so poorly and I'm afraid you have grossly mis-represented the Subaru. My outback routinely passed and maneuvered around trucks and SUVs in any snow, light or deep, in both all seasons and winter tires. I once pulled a mid-sized truck up my local neighborhood trail with my outback in a 12" blizzard. Either you literally have the worst tires ever designed, or the outback has gone downhill. My 2014 with all season tires (Continental) drove around every other vehicle in any snow storm. With winter tires, I would pass trucks by 20mph on the interstate in blinding snow. I get it, real world "testing". But this is really a gross mis-representation to anyone who has never driven a Subaru in snow. Also, consider the significant difference in normal force provided to the Ford's tires. Traction is a factor of normal force and coefficient of friction. Assuming the cf is constant (same tire), the Ford still gets more pure traction based on its weight and thereby normal force on each tire. Still a no-doubter for me, if I'm in any level of snow on pavement, I want a Subaru over any other vehicle. (For context, I currently own a Land Rover LR3 and Land Cruiser (LX 570) and miss my Subaru whenever the snow shows up.)

    Quite a clueless review. Having both the Subaru and a Ram, I would take the Subaru in most snowy situations because the Subaru is better balanced at speed than the pickup which is light in the back (unloaded) and can spin in curves. In their pointless 30 mph straight line test, the Raptor will win but I don't see straight roads on most mountains. Just ask any experienced pickup driver and they will weight their truck bed with a 300-500 lbs of weight just to keep the shiny side up. This video looks like a paid video for Ford.

  • @wizeguiz
    @wizeguiz 5 лет назад +17

    You are 100% right, snow tires make all the difference. I currently own a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and this is my ninth Subaru. I have Sumitomo Ice Edge snows on it and she handles fantastic! In the past I have used Blizzaks, Nokian Nordman and Altimax Arctic snow tires on my Subies and the Sumitomo's are just as good, if not better, and I saved a lot of money! I prefer tires with an aggressive pattern that will dig through the snow. Cheers!

    Such a ridiculous comparison. Mid-size SUV vs full size V8 truck, definitely fair!
    As someone who has owned two Subarus, I am fully confident they can handle the majority of conditions. I've taken an old Forester through mountain winters in negative 20 temperatures, on unplowed snowy and icy roads and it got me to my destination without even barely struggling, and that was on all-seasons as well. I feel like these comparisons always paint Subaru in a bad light, but it's an unfair comparison to begin with. Yeah, you're not going to be ripping around in the snow like a maniac and stopping immediately like a giant truck would. But, the important question, WHO DRIVES LIKE THAT IN BAD WEATHER TO BEGIN WITH? If you do, you shouldn't drive. Subarus aren't invincible, they're not the best thing ever, I've had other cars, but in the case of bad weather, I trust Subaru every time.

I've rescued many many people in winter. In snow, a front wheel drive car with snow tyres is more effective than a 4wd with 'summer' or 'all season' tyres. What would be the next comparison a Ford Raptor vs a Mazda 3? You don't need do a test to know that a vehicle with deep grove tires would be better in the snow then a vehicle with all summer tires. Healthy Subaru with very good snow tire is hard to beat. Raptor may be well but so much weight it is gone be an immense issues when snow gets icy. However journalists dont know that fresh snow is fresh one one day then it changes to either ice or mash. Raptor is out of price this should not be ignored. Compare a Raptor to a WRX Sti in snow configuration (+/- same price as Raptor) would have be more just. This snow-Subaru STI will beat the crap out if not the hell out of the Raptor on snow. Storm or no storm, on road. If you get out of the road Raptor will be better for sure. Or you could have taken a nice subaru with spike tires. Will beat the crap out almost any car on the road. could you please use winter tires next time. I mean is such amount of snow you really should be driving winter tires.

    This is a pointless comparison in my opinion. You’re comparing a 4x4 70k luxury pickup with off-road package to a small suburban family howler with a standard AWD. Not to mention the difference of rubber each vehicles have.
    A fair comparison for the Subaru would be base ford 150 with all season rubber.

      Subaru Outback is one of (or maybe IS ) the best winter car you can buy.
      Raptor is one of (or maybe is) the best winter pickup truck you can buy.
      They tested stock to stock from the factory car vs truck. There is nothing wrong with this test they are highlighting the difference between them and that WAS THE POINT..

    • @DarthNero
      @DarthNero 5 лет назад +1

      Napster6 it’s not about being right or wrong. Just pointing out that the differences are obvious therefore it makes no sense to compare them.

      The point, as with most anything, is about money. The more polarizing a comparison is, the more views and comments it generates which means more money for the channel. So it's not pointless for its intended purpose.

      As much as i agree that this was a good tire ad.. saying that the truck was really only better because of tires is kinda ignorant.. you should know full well the technology behind the Raptors ability in tough traction situations is a HUGE benefit over your average Subaru. From the traction control computer systems to the suspension and drive line advantages.. its better. Not just tires.

    Stop running this car on non-snow tires! I will not watch another video of the Subaru unless it is equipped with a decent set of dedicated snow tires. I experienced the same thing with my old crosstrek, once I installed a set of General Artic Max tires it was a tank. People really need to see how good these things are when properly outfitted. Tests like these are just downright dangerous for you and others on the road.

      @Two two three Five five six you realize any car with tires not meant for the snow won't perform at their true potential. the truck came with more aggressive tires to begin with hence the reason it did well. idk I'd take my Subaru with blizzak ws80's over getting 1 mile per gallon in the truck lol granted the raptor is still badass...

      @@Napster60 If its stock vs stock why compare a subaru to a raptor? Do you not see what they are trying to say in their under tone? They could of literally grabbed a Mitsubishi Eclipse and Outback and compare them stock. Also comparing cars stock without the same tyres is also very useless. Apples and oranges all differ.

      Because they already did the important video with a more standard F-150. In that video they were demonstrating the differences between a car and a truck in snow as is from the factory. There's nothing wrong with that.

    Living in Alaska, I own a full size truck (GMC) and a Subaru (first a 2006 Forester and now a 2014 Legacy). For the snow conditions in this awesome video I take my truck. And I am really glad you showed the weakness of Subaru's traction control. I live on a steep hill and the first winter with my Legacy also encountered the traction control issue (no traction control with the older Forester). Subaru uses its break system for traction control. The end result as shown is pedal to the floor, in-ability to hill climb, and hot brakes when you reach your destination. Another TFL killer video!!!! Thanks TFL!!!

    I have Wrangler with Duratrac, GF has a Subaru with Nokian studded, and Mom has F150 with BFG ko2. For going almost anywhere, its is the Jeep hands down. F150 is the king of deep snow, and the Subaru, is best on a skating rink. (They are all excellent winter rigs, but those are their strengths)

    It pisses me off how much subaru has softened their cars over the years. They used to have a high/low transfer case, they used to be decent soft roaders!
    Having said that do people in Colorado really just use all seasons? In Canada, especially up north, everyone has proper snow tyres for winter. Hell I had studded winter tyres for my civic.
