This is a known bug since Windows 20h2, Microsoft and Intel refuse to take Blame. Most of it happens with new Intel HD 630 drivers, but some have reported it in amd systems as well. If you have the problem running Intel 8th gen installing old drivers Will fix it maybe by breaking the buggy Windows feature. Thank you for making the vídeo this is a huge bug more than 1 year old and MS hasn't even acknowledged it. It is also present in the new mac copy skin for Windows 10 called Windows 11 so please spread the word and maybe someone with power sues MS. (Windows update Will force this bug on you if you are running 8th gen Intel)
Not really. The real underlying issue with dwm.exe is it is a front end for telemetry. Be all, end all. This isn't a "bug". This is a feature. That is why it persists and reactivate since the inception of win 10. Look back since the beginning. People had it for gpu/cpu spiking and staying because the call for telemetry happens but there isn't a proper kill function for it unless you put it to sleep.
@@rb9951 what you mean this is not a bug? The memory is not being used for caching it is trapped, it is one of the most taught things of what NOT to do when writing a program.
Finally I think this solved my issue. We'll see, but all other posts were focusing on updating the Indel video driver and I have not been able to get that to work. So far so good.
omfg, your a lifesaver. my pc in first stage it keep crashing taskbar, and second stage it dwm.exe has high memory and it fix by your method fixing. thank you so much man
temporary easy solution for me after you turn on your laptop let it load all startup apps then go to task manager close DWM (may result to screen turning black OR screen turning black for a few seconds then windows coming back again, either of the 2 is ok), next ctrl+alt+del then choose sign out (not shut down/restart) this step is necessary , then after signing out log back in that should solve the problem for me i hope it works for you
How i fix mine Go control panel - then power option-to choose what power buttons do - then change settings that are currently are unavailable -then turn off fast startup - save changes - restart pc and Done
YESSS THANKS A LOT, i had 10gb memory used for desktop window manager and after tried 1st option it become less than 100mb, it feels like i can breath again now lol
GUYS DON'T DO THE SECOND STEP !! the second step which involves clearing paging files made my windows shutdown time from 15 secs to 3+ minutes... I would highly recommend not doing it...
This worked for me thanks, but I want to know why it happened? I recently got my laptop to a 12gb upgrade to my laptop that has an intel 620HD. The DWM doesnt really use that much ram before until I upgraded, I remember updating my windows too but I don't know if it was the same time as when I updated windows, did my ram upgrade caused this does that mean its faulty or is it because of windows update?
So when i start my pc the ram slowly begins going from 60 mb RAM to eventually over 2,5 gb ram most cases even 8 gb ram usage. The only working solutions i found is if i restart my pc (manually) or if end dwm.exe also (manually) but im sick of doing that manually. So is there a way to like end dwm.exe on startup? Maybe with some kind of command?
I saw those registry tweaks on another video and was wondering what they actually do. I can kind of guess about the second registry key you showed, as its name is pretty clear, but what about the first one? I think it changes the startup type of the Network Data Usage service, right?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK TO MAKE THE VIDEO. EDIT1. DIDN'T WORK AT ALL FOR ME. EDIT2. FIX ( REVERT TO A SYSTEM RESTORE BEFORE THE UPDATE ) THIS WORKED FOR ME, GOT RID OF THE PROBLEM. JUST UPDATED MY WINDOWS LAST UPDATE AND NOW I GOT SAME PROBLEM.... NO NEW DRIVERS OR UPDATES ON ANYTHING ELSE , NOW I GET THE ERROR OF HIGHT USAGE OF RAM... SO IT'S A WINDOWS PROBLEM!!!! THERE'S NO 100% FIX .... ONLY TO END IT IN TASK MANAGER , OR ANOTHER FIX IS TO RESET YOUR PC MORE OFTEN... ( UNTILL THEY WILL FIX IT ON A NEW UPDATE ).
Hello I have an i5 1135G7 . I tried changing it to 4 instead of 3 but it jus stays on the base speed which is 2.42Ghz and when I play games it Drops to 0.79. Any fix?
Unfortunately only the first option, with ending the task of dwm.exe, works for me. And what is irritating about this is, that I have custom color settings, that are resetting to default, when I'm ending the desktop window manager task, and the only thing that is fixing it, is to switch users and log in again, which takes some time.
Disable Hardware Acceleration If you have hardware acceleration enabled, the DWM might get to utilize the excess of the GPU resources. The hardware acceleration feature consumes a higher proportion of GPU and extracts much from the CPU as well.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot! It usually use up 100+ mb on my computer and sometime jumps up to over 1gb which is really annoying. Your method fixed it right away but will it affect other applications or only desktop window manager? Anyway, thanks!
Thank you so much, it worked, by the way is it normal when sometime desktop window manager spiking to 10% of gpu usage?, after a few second it drops to under 2% again
I am leaving this comment here because some people still coment on my comment. Intel has since fix this bug in the new drivers for intel hd630 drivers. You cant get them in their website. Be warned this is only for intel systems and I can confirm it works to stop dwm.exe bloating memory leak. If it happens again it might be due to windows update rolling back drivers thinking it is actually updating.
I have tried every things but in keeps showing me that my GPU usage is between 100% and 90% while i am not running any programs while even the programs using gpu about just 2% while it ahows me i am using 100%
Hi! You can fix the problem by reverting one of the registries back to it's original setting and keep the other one changed (can't remember which one). That way, you fix the memory leak without long startup time.
i dont know why but after i try this step , my restart screen take decades .... i read the comment and it look like there is a guy that have my exact same proplem .. i think i fck up my computer
Thanks for the feedback. Can you revert back to original settings and see what happens? I will make another video exploring this issue since two people have now reported it.
For me, the below change worked instead of the changes mentioned in the RUclips video. Please revert the changes shown in RUclips and try the below mentioned method once, to confirm. 1. Right click on the blank space in the right pane and choose New -> QWORD (64-bit) Value/ DWORD (32-bit) Value (depending on your system). 5. Name the new value as DisableHWAcceleration. 6. Double click on DisableHWAcceleration and change the Value data to 1. 7. Click on the OK button to confirm. Now, close Registry Editor. 8. Restart the system. Thanks.
