- 100% Disk usage is still a major problem for lots of people. Today I'm revisiting the subject. My most popular video has been my 100% disk usage tips. Tons of people suffer from this problem and a year later its even worse then when I made the original video. Hopefully these tips will help you out.

I liked that you explained why disabling each service might help instead of just blindly disabling them without explanation. +Sub
Glad it helped.
Totally agree with LVB's comment. _Way_ too many channels have you thrashing about the registry, demolishing files willy-nilly, on blind faith when they're too young to shave and they're standing in front of a Devil Rock blacklight poster.
Yes sir.. 👍🏻
The first service works to me, thx
Thank you
I had that problem. I tried everything in the last video. Got rid of my crappy hard drive for ssd. Now it runs beautiful.
Yep, that's the best way to fix it.
I think Windows is so bloated that it makes these 5400RPM HDD's struggle. I've woken up a few laptops by switching to SSDs.
Damn man, I am in exact same position, got rid of that HDD for WB green 2.5 inch SSD and now it works great now.... Microsoft should really add "having an ssd" to windows 10 minimum system requirements.
i wish it worked for me, i got a new SSD (860 EVO) to upgrade my PC and to solve the 100% disk usage issue, unfortunately it did not work, and after i did every solution possible, i threw my win 10 key and got back to win 7, it was the only solution to have a normal PC. some combination of old hardware just don't work with win 10, i don't know exactly why, and if it actually the case but that's what i suspect.
Yep, me too. Changed to ssd, everything works fine
Been having Disk Usage problems for some amount of time, and all the other videos don't go into exact detail as to why you need to disable these specific programs you showed. But unlike them, you point it out and you explain enough for those whom aren't tech savy to understand why these services are even there to begin with. Thank you, CPU Tech.
Took my disk usage from 100% down to 8%. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much.
A fun tip that I always suggest: let you laptop run idle every so often, especially if you rarely use it for long period of time. It lets Windows rearrange items and complete tasks that would otherwise bog down your sporadic usage!
That's actually a great tip.
That what I do now. Still a shame and it shouldn’t be like that... Man, the switch to Linux is coming.
@@aswd45-mk14 lol
@@aswd45-mk14 youll spend more time screwing around with linux to make it work the way you want than you ever will woth windows. Im not a shill for windows im setting your expectations realistically.
@@tylermcnally8232 yeah, that why i havent change yet. And it's probably one of the reason why i havent change yet.
The best part of this video that others fail at is, explaining what each disabling does. 10/10
THANK YOU so much - your first tip was missing from EVERY other video I've watched on this. Disabling Superfetch worked at first but the next time i went a week or so without using my laptop it was back at 100% - i did everything short of chkdsk because my settings wouldn't let me run one (?). The Connected user Telemtry function was the new culprit. You are a goddamn hero, my man!
I’ve tried various things for years but your tips actually helped the problem! I was also scared of doing some of the things others suggested because I had no idea what it would do to my computer. Thank you so much.
IDK how this ended up in my recommendations, but gat damn am i glad it did! Thanks d00d!
Glad it worked out for you.
It's one of the few instances of smartphone spying I think actually helps.
How do I know My smartphone is spying on me?
Yesterday (Jul/04/2021) I was talking to a friend about how much I hate Windows 10 and its resource-hungry sh*t, and, what do you know? Today (Jul/05/2021) st. Algorythmus recommends this video.

You are one of the best tech teachers I have ever seen, not exaggerating. Clean, clear and concise. Thank you so much.
i tried everything but got nothing.
Remove mcfree works everytime
You did an EXCELLENT job with this video. Easy to watch, clearly explaining what you are doing and why. Well done. Fixed my issue with editing the registry regarding that storehci driver.
You're a lifesaver. Disabling SysMain did the trick for me. Disk usage went from 100% to hovering around 10-15%. Excellent tips that actually works! Thanks man.
I'm doing a video on SysMain soon. I'm actually currently working on it. Keep an eye out for it. It will probably be released within the next few weeks.
@@CyberCPU disabling sysmain is a horrible suggestion IMO. I'll look up the video on it (assuming its done by now)
@@CyberCPUI did see my disk usage go down until after I ran Firefox then went back to 100%.
@@windowsperf I did a few videos on it a while back and saw no noticable difference in performance other then it making the drive reach 100% usage during booting. Those videos where done about a year and a half ago.

Wow. You are absolutely amazing! I love the way you explain things (as other comments have also mentioned). I've been looking for a solution to my disk issues for a long while now and only this video has helped so far. Subbing for sure!
Thank you.
Thank you! This was a great video. You were clear, consice, and easy to follow. The 100% disk useage has been plaguing me and making it difficult to get important work done. Fixing the driver bug was what resolved it for me. I know I need to just give in and buy an SSD but in the meantime this has made life much easier.
I only today found your site and have already learnt more than I know what to do with. I'm looking forward to checking out your back catalogue. Thank you.
In the section about editing the registry (that is the section about the disk controller), the Regedit tool has a SEARCH function - much better than trying to visually match the string with the listing in Regedit. If you click on "Edit" at the top of the Regedit window, one option is Search.
I would "apply" the disable prior to stopping the service. some start up right away and will be running even after you disable. Wsearch did this.
Your probably right. That's typically the way I do it. I wasn't aware I did it backwards in the video. Thanks for pointing it out.
Dude, I watch like 5 other videos before I found yours. Yours was literally the only one that did anything. Thanks
You're an absolute legend. Was about to heave the thing in the bin.
Thank you for taking the time to explain everything so clearly. Liked and subbed.
Thank you so much for explaining what disabling the services you mentioned does. I really appreciate this. I have an online exam tomorrow morning and the disk usage slows down my laptop's performance dramatically. So this helped a lot.
Appreciate your insight into what they actually do and why disabling htem is no big deal. SysMain was the culprit on my computer. I was CONSTANTLY hovering at 100, to the point where the computer was becoming unusable. Disable SysMain and it IMMEDIATELY dropped down to hovering around zero (albeit still bouncing around.) Thanks brother!
Glad it helped.
Thanks for this. My wife's computer was constantly showing 100%.
That regedit fix did the trick along with disabling sysmain. Thanks again. Thumbs up!
Great advice, worked like a charm!! I've been having this issue for some time now and yours was the only solution! Thanks!
I disabled “Connected user experiences and Telemetry” and my disk went from a constant 100% all the time instantly down to about 15%
Sweet, glad it worked out for you.
Mee too the same
@@CyberCPU Hello Sir , I've ssd and hdd both but when i check activity status in task manager ssd activity is normal but in hdd it's 100 percent and it never goes down. My laptop freezez like crazy. Can this video help in my case?
Please reply :(
@@jatinkhatri7512 yes it would absolutely help . 95% of the time, these steps would fix that, even without upgrading to an SSD (still the best choice).

Thanks for awsome video man, I also really liked the last part that the way you spoke so sincerely
You are a hero.
I was on the verge of getting a new computer, but thanks to you there's no need
Glad it worked out for you.
Thank you. I don't know which step help me but one of them did. I've seen some people in these comments say none of these steps help their problem but I'm glad I'm not one of those people. I'm glad to report that all of these tips still work in 2022.
disabled sysmain and went from 100% to 3% disk usage thats insane
Glad it worked out for you
@Arka Banerjee well for me it's actually opened faster after disabling it
Mine also
That's probably because sysmain incorrectly guessed the program you would be loading, and since you loaded a different program it took more time to load. With sysmain stopped no such programs were loaded and so it loaded in normal time and appeared to be faster (Not sure if I'm correct though but maybe this is the reason)
I had my pc on so I thought why not just give it a try. Checked task manager, showed 80-95% disk usage fluctuating. I did the exact same thing he said as disabled sysmain. I literally have my pc on 3-5% disk usage wtf? xD
The only reasons you would want a Hard Disk Drive is: 1) To write/read large data "linearly" in the most efficient manner like Audio/Video. 2) For Archiving in general. Hard Disk Drives last a LOT longer than SSDs in use and storage. Nowadays, the OS drive and general data drives should always be a SATA SSD at the very least or a M.2 for best performance for sure.
Spinning drives are fine for data and personal files, expecially if you have a lot or bulky files.
I don't think any system manufacturers should be putting the OS onto a spinning drive. If that means they can't produce that super cheap $150 net laptop, fine, make it $170 with an SSD and make your customers happy. The performance drop It really not worth the little savings between the two in the small size that those budget laptops get (120 to 256 GB)
@@javaman2883 the problem is you can get a 500 sata ssd for $30. No excuse for why something like the asus vivobook to have a 1tb had for 600 something dollars.
Dude. Finally i find someone that provides very complete instructions to help my friends and family with this problem (when MS pushes win10 to old pcs, it is a nightmare). Thank you! Subscribed as well!
I searched so many videos in RUclips none of them worked. Your tips worked . Thankyou for educating us in tech side
From 83-100% to 5% below disk usage. Thank you so much! I'm now a new subscriber
Glad it worked out for you.
By far the best explanation how to fix your pc. My laptop is already super fast from up to an hour waiting to open a darn program. Thank you very much.
The step involving the IDE Controllers worked for me. Thank you so , so much. You have no idea how relieved I am to finally fix this!
Wow. Great video, man. It had crossed my mind that my 100% disk usage came down to the OS expecting an SSD to be in use. I mean, it IS becoming the standard now and for good reason. Thanks for the direct and informative tips, brother. Liked and subscribed.
Don't have any problems with disc usage, but got this vid in recommended and watching just in case 😄
i just saw this videos while surfing, i have no doubt your previous content on this topic is most viewed

From 100% to 1% disabling Windows search! Very good, I'm thankful!🙏💖
This video is great to follow along with and gain understanding. A+ video.
I still have high disk usage - however disabling the driver in the last tip solved the hang-up problem that had me wondering why my disk usage was high in the first place.
I'll update to an SSD to keep up with the times, but for now this totally solved my problem of browser tabs needing 5-10 minutes to load after re-start.
Glad it helped
This dude is a legend 🙌🏾💯
Useful tips! I discovered your channel last night. I'll be flipping some older systems to win 10 thanks to you.
Right now I'm on an older win 10 build - on a netbook that was just given to me. Perfect if I want a larger screen than my phone when travelling. The more resources I can free up on it the better. I might try slimmed win 10 version later on. Thanks and subscribed!

Glad it helped.
The content was impressive. Straight to the point, clear concise explanation on what we doing , and it works too..damn i was late to find this channel. Thanks!
Glad it helped.
I switched these off last year and now they are back on. Had to go back to this. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you so much for such an informative and helpful video! I've done most of the tips you mentioned in the video (minus the search one) and I'm hoping this will help a lot with my main SSD usage :)
In lieu of this being posted again, I mentioned having 100% disk read issues and a whole layer of wacky problems related to kernal issues.
Long story short, repairing Windows 10's system files completely fixed the disk usage problem. Whatever it was that was corrupt somehow some way was entirely fixed after repairing the OS. Its pretty ironic actually, that's usually the last resort method I choose after exhausting everything else and even that rarely works. Usually formatting is the end point.
Basically, if you've tried everything here I would highly recommend just trying the most obvious thing outside of windows update and that is just using the repair function for the OS.
Thank you. Because none of these except the last one worked for me.
Thanks for the help! Have an extra sub on your computer journey, and good luck!
Awesome, thank you!
Can't thank you enough, this video was the most useful, informative and easy to follow guide on this issue!
Thanks for the detailed info. Spinning disks of the 5400 and not even 7200rpm variety sadly still exist in the workplace and we all make due with what we have. Fortunately for you and Chris Titus Tuning Scripts you've made PCs Great Again. 👍
Thank you for the tips :)
One thing to avoid the 100% CPU Usage is to make your dedicated graphics card (if you have one) your default card. Works miracles!
How do you do that?
The INSTANT I turned off search my disk usage went from 100% to 1%. Thank you!

You are a genius man, the part about SATA driver fix for me!...I had not seen it in any other video, subscribed!
i never usually comment on videos but this one definitely deserves it!!!! it really helped be out and brought my CPU from 60% down to 4%. keep up the amazing work!!!!!
Thank you so much! My computer was crashing all the time and was so slow. I just found out today, that my disk % was at a 100. I disabled the first two on your list, and now it is at about 2% and 59% when I play a relatively heavy game (for my PC at least). And it surely helped with the speed a lot. Looking forward to see if it has helped with the crashing in the long run too (or if I need a new PSU), but it has not crashed since.
Glad it helped
@@CyberCPU you just got a new subscriber 😁 thanks again.
You still getting those crashes? Or was getting a new psu what solved the problem for you? I recently started getting crashes whislt playing games as well (crashes i wasnt getting one month ago)
@@Canestri_i The disk use came back to a 100% after some time. I got a new PSU as the crashing came back as well. I haven't have it crash since then, but I got an SSD bc the HDD was still soooo slow. Now everything runs like a charm and boots up 30 sek. instead of 10 min.
Just so you know, the all the High Performance plan does is is stop the CPU from idling at a lower clock speed, it does not affect disk usage at all. I would actually recommend leaving it on balanced unless you know that you definitely need it on the High Performance plan. Leaving it on high performance will likely significantly reduce battery life on laptops when just doing basic tasks like browsing the web or watching videos where the CPU is likely barely being used anyway.
The driver one fixed it. For the last 2 years i have been "short term" fixing it. It instantly droped to 3% from 100% . Thank you so much
Thank you for your clear explanations and step by step instructions.
great man. great content. subbing cause you deserve the community
Great video, I've done a lot of the work you've demonstrated here for helping friend's & family to lower their 100% disc usage, but the regedit one was new to me. Hence, I haven't had 100% success with every time I've encountered the problem. One minor, if I may; regedit, pronounced rej-edit - as in, registry.. not reg as in regular.
Yes, your right but when you've said it one way for as many years as I have the chances of breaking the habit are unlikely. 😂😂
Had the Storaci Issue and never would've gotten the help elsewhere on the internet, thanks a ton!
Thank you this has been really helpful my PC was working at hundred percent disk usage and I was so frustrated about that but thank you your video really helps me a lot and thank you

This helped me solve a slow workstation PC. Thanks!
Honestly, the single biggest improvement I found on older Win 10 PC's regarding high disk usage, especially at startup, upgrade to an SSD. Less then $100 and breathes new life into older PC's and laptops. That and bump RAM to 8GB. Those two changes alone help dramatically.
Really? I always delete Windows and install a free and open-source OS and all my problems are gone without me spending any money. But you do you. From what I hear some people like having no control over their computers and of course the being spied on is also very modern.
@@callisoncaffrey what kind of OS

Get an SSD, put your OS in it and put your data on HDD.
I didn't know sysmain is the old prefetch. It was the main culprit. Stopped it and now disk usage stopped running at 100% on start up and quickly dropped way down. Also stopped the snooping telemetry service. thanks.
