Nembhard & Obi should get packaged for a defensive wing like Herb Jones

A consolidation trade for a wing seems in our future. But those two are about 35 mil in salary. What's Jones make? Also would leave us with a big glut at wing with Jones, Mathurin, Sheppard, Furphy, and Nesmith all deserving minutes.
If Walker can handle BU 4 we can spare Obi...need to add a one of those wings to him to get a guy like Jones.

You are very wrong. That would be a horrible mistake. That trade would send the Pacers backwards not forward. Herb alone couldn't give the Pacers the production they would need if they let Obi and Nemhard go. They would need a player like B. Ingram to bring back the production they would need for losing Obi and Nemhard. Herb isn't a upgrade from Obi on offense, they give you the same production but he is an upgrade on defense but then losing Nemhard too would nullify that upgrade and that would be way too much of a lose. One gain a good defender (herb) and lose good defender and playmaker (Nemard), you lose your best lob threat and one of your best bench players (Obi). I know you think that's just a small trade but that trade could change the whole trajectory of this team and not for the better.

@@normanbell1410Nemhards contact doesn't kick in yet, he's still only getting 2mill but that is a horrible trade idea.

What kind of agg trade could they really make with Walker and Mathurin? It's a really hard needle to thread. But that's probably the move if they wanted to leap this year, otherwise you're banking on them making major development gains before Siakam's decline.

@@bjpivonka1672 not sure they would want someone whose good enough (and thus expensive enough) to give up both but using one plus other salary (obi most likely, unless they can find a cheap player) to reel in someone like Tari Eason, Jerami Grant (dollars are tough there), Suggs (if Orlando is worried about paying him), etc. also think they could do something a little lower level to make a big defensive difference (toumani Camara, Cody Martin, vit krejci, if kenrich is healthy post surgery, etc) that would make a defensive difference without requiring immediate consolidating. they would be a fascinating Jaden McDaniels team if Minnesota wants to cut payroll next summer and trade defense for offense.

@@HardwoodKnocksNBA yeah those 2 plus obi gets you in the ballpark salary wise for say Ingram. How interested are they in a cam johnson? Markanen was another one who may have fit.
As for Minnesota, I just don't know what they do. I just don't think it's trading McDaniel. Letting Rudy walk would solve some cap issues, but it's hard to lose him for nothing (same could be said for Reid). The league dropping this apron on them shortly after the Gobert trade is kinda bs when they said they couldn't change the age limit in the cba since teams had already traded picks.....zero logical consistency.
