Another outstanding show, love OKC coach and an assembly of players they have put together over the last couple of years.

Great, in depth convo. I think Dan's concerns about Caruso being too deferential at times is a valid one. It'll be interesting to see how Okc uses him. Seems some are under the impression he's a "shooter" or three point specialist. He's not. He's more or less a low volume 3 & D undersized wing these days, and defensive specialist 1 to 4. Bulls announcer Stacy King called him the team's "Free Safety" last season. And thats sort of accurate. He's become the near definition of a "positionless" basketball player. What Okc makes of that, idk? I've also heard chatter of him returning to his old backup PG role running the second unit? I don't see that, though. Many forget his natural position is PG. He was one his entire career. But for the NBA? He's average at best, not very dynamic. And he hasn't played the position for two seasons, really. Can he run an offense? I suppose. But why would you want him to? He's nothing special at it and hasn't been a primary ball handler for two seasons. When 'Zo went out three seasons ago AC was also out injured, so Ayo Dosunmu took over. And when AC came back? He backed Ayo, not the other way around. Caruso started at PG that year in the playoffs because rookie Ayo feel off a cliff with the rest of the team post All Star break. He did well enough, but it was the last time Chicago used him as a PG, period. If SGA goes down? He's not giving what Giddey could filling in. It'll have to get done by committee, most likely. And when AC is on the floor ideally he's your 4-5 scoring option. Even in a full on second unit...fourth option at best, third in a pinch. But if any of your primary scorers are slacking chances are he's not going to make up for it. He'll pitch in with scoring, hit a timely shot. But he's not taking over. I think a player as versatile and well rounded as him can "fit" any system. And even if Okc decide he's not NEEDED....or they NEED something different? He's definitely a net asset in any trade. So the team has some flexibility there. I'm fairly certain he's going to work out great. Just remember...he's a "Free Safety." So let him be one.

@@jdh9676 whoaaaaa sicko shit here I love it. agree with a lot of what you say-the Ayo point is GREAT. i ultimately think the Caruso add was borne from just a good opportunity but is also a bet in continued on-ball development from j-dub, Chet and Cason specifically. but could def see a scenario where maybe that’s not enough, at least this season

90%+ of the minutes will have one of JDub and SGA in it running the show as the defacto PG. I can see Caruso, Cason, or even Wiggins being capable of filling in the rest but it won’t be often.
Caruso fit on defense is obvious as a versatile defender who can guard 1-most 4’s.
His offense is versatile too in the fact that he can fill in at PG for 5 minutes if needed, but really fits well as a secondary ball handler, connector and shooter. He’s not high volume from 3 but keeps the ball moving and finds good shots for others.
I think he’s as perfect fit as you can get for your 4-6th best player who will start most games and finish many. Most teams don’t expect their 4-6th best player to “take over” games.

I'm happy to hear someone say that a big wing was the bigger need. The ideal big wing could have addressed many needs simultaneously (shooting, shot creation, rebounding). Look at the Celtics. They only play one big at a time, and they don't have rebounding issues because Tatum rebounds extremely well for a 3/4. Now obviously, you're not getting a Tatum, but I do think they could have found someone adequate given their pick situation, cap space, and salary matching tools.

I think we just need to see JDUB paint out how he’ll look at a pure 2nd option. I’m still skeptical on the creation against those wings who’ll really focus on them since we know OKC is coming but either way great show

@@HardwoodKnocksNBA I already teased my thunder friends that they set up the expansion draft to hit after the celtics 3 peat so the new teams can raid OKC's cubbard. But OKC will look like Minnesota cap wise in like 2 years. So they needed to make their moves now cause they won't be able to keep everyone unless they're willing to pay a killer tax and basically just maneuver up and down the draft board for their new additions.

@@HardwoodKnocksNBA the problem is much like the pacers young guys, who is the match for okc to trade them for? The teams that could make sense don't really have what OKC wants (washington) or they already made a stupid trade with and missed their chances ( :: glares at Chicago :: ). I have no idea what Chicago is doing, at least get Dieng if you aren't getting picks. And their stubbornness to not tear down when you owe SA this pick for next 2 or 3 years seems crazy to me. Very short sighted. But they did league the league in attendance despite making the play-in, so they may not care about a late lottery pick if they can keep that up.

No he's not. GMAB. He's a big man with some perimeter skills. That kind of player is still going to be better going against 5s than 4s. Also, wing implies the ability to play some 3 as well.
