One thing I would have liked to see were a list of all available unprotected players. Beyond just the player's name and position, this list would include: current contract status, age and years pro. Yes, they would mention a team and show protected/unprotected players on that team. But we have no clue who else they could have chosen. IMO... 1. overall skill is important, but baring superstar status, skill would curtail itself to my team's intended play style. For example, if my intention was to create a very fast-paced team, my selections would not likely be a player who could not outrun a granny with a walker! A seven second offense does not mean my PG runs a 40 in 7 seconds! If I want my team to play a grit and grind type physical game, chances are I would not choose a 6'9", 220 lb Center! Simply put, what type of a team would I want to build (based on my coaches preferred coaching style)? Which players would best help to fill those roles. 2. Age is important. Potential is important. But even more important is attitude. A new team has enough problems. But a great club house atmosphere can help a team immensely. A great example is Jalen Suggs of the Magic. Two years ago, his teammates voted him as the team's MVP. Wait... what? His stats and even his play time did not warrant that. But when you dig further, you will discover that he was the most beloved player on the team. With his friendly and positive demeanor, he was the glue that held his team together and made the club house pleasant. 3. Back to age again... Younger players are usually a better option, UNLESS... you have a GREAT option for a very good veteran that could help lead the team. My draft may be 85% under 24, but there will be a couple 27+ and even a 30+ (or two) player. 4. Contract status. It's one thing if you are drafting trade bait, quite another if you are drafting a team fixture. He's a 'decent' player, with one year on his contract and he's getting $15M/yr? Not a chance. He's a decent player with 2 years, plus an additional 2 year team option, for a total of $12M over those 4 years? There is a very good chance I will look at him and say, "welcome to the team!"
I would really hope, as a Thunder fan, that we would give up Kenrich Williams and keep all our young guys that we left on the board. Jay Will is such an underrated role player
I like the resources that Bontemps acquired in this draft but I like the overall talent swing on Pelton's team. Technically on paper, Bontemps' team would be projected to be better (Dillon Brooks, CJ McCollum, Grant Williams, Jakob Poetl, Duncan Robinson) but considering how many of those players are more trade-able assets than long term fits for the team, I think those pick acquisitions will have to be doing work long term for that team's future. I like the potential for growth on Pelton's team way more. There is a young starting 5 on this team that I could see developing and becoming a good young team like Houston is in 2-3 more seasons. I like Jaylin Williams at the 5, Kyle Kuzma at the 4 (til traded) then Adem Bona, Harrison Barnes at the 3 (til traded) then Toumani Camara, Collin Sexton at the 2, and Miles McBride at the 1. I could see this team getting to the mid 20s in wins and Sexton and McBride potentially developing into a solid guard pairing with Sexton averaging something like 20 ppg and McBride around 16 ppg. I think people probably forgot that as a Rookie, JWill led the league in charges drawn and shot around 40% from 3 as OKC's starting Center for much of that season. I could see JWill being a solid 12 ppg Center with solid defensive numbers. Camara was actually pretty solid in Portland and I don't see why he wouldn't get better too. I don't think Kuzma would be around for more than a season or two but while he'd be there he would probably put up around 22-23 ppg as well.
I prefer tanking your team to build assets than developing your team to get knocked out in the play-in for the next 3-4 seasons. Build up your assets. Coach up the prospects. See how lucky you can get.

That descending contract isn’t as valuable as you would think for an expansion team, they don’t have access to most of their cap for years and by the point they do and can compete McBride will be up for extension. Really the only way you can rationalize taking him for his contract would be if you are looking to trade him which an expansion franchise very well could
Boston signed the 2 highest contracts in NBA history over the last 2 years. They won the title this year, so their value is high. The NBA also signed a new TV deal, which increases every franchises value. So this team has the highest value that it's going to have right now, and is going to have to let it's players go (and lose that value) or pay into the luxury tax and become less profitable, or even go into the red. Selling high makes sense for Boston. Contracts are increasing massively, and a new TV deal is nice. But there is a limit to what owners can charge for ticket sales. There is a limit to what owners can charge for ticket sales in Memphis vs New York. The TV deal raises contracts, the amount of revenue generated isn't going to be enough to cover that for all teams. The Celtics owner realizes this and is selling before the bubble bursts. Small market teams are not going to be able to compete. This is NOT the time to expand the NBA. The NBA needs to figure out it's finances before they hit a brick wall.

The Las Vegas Debtors, presented by Fanduel
Given the new restrictive CBA, if there isn't a single instance of a team accepting a bad contract in exchange for draft capital and waiving it for no penalty - I will be beyond disappointed.
RIP black Adam. The man of steel has arrived!
Picking Johnny Furphy 1st is wild
How to tell me you don't pay attention to Toronto without actually saying it. Poetl wouldn't be protected? Sell me another bridge.
JR BREMMER SHOUT OUT! CLEVELAND HEIGHTS STAND UP!
Dallas would never allow super Dwight or lay-up line maxi misalot to be unprotected lol not that anyone would take them lol
That was a hell of an attempt to sell Jakob Poetl for Julius Randle 🤣
Gary Payton Shawn Kemp was one of my first NBA experiences.... bring back the SUPERSONICS!!
I am extremely entertained, but I am not smart enough to understand this process. Just enjoying the ride.
Holy hell how many times does Windhorst have to reiterate the same thing. WE GET IT, it's all hypothetical
While I also would turn down Purdle-for-Randle…I would certainly think about it far longer than Bobby did here
article dropped yesterday 😂 Marks spoiled the picks
you guys are crazy. blazers protecting KRIS MURRAY over anfernee. what man
For the Las Vegas team I was thinking maybe the Las Vegas Jokers
No. Were not Naming some team after some non-american player.
@@environment-s9xare you dumb it’s like the aces, a deck of cards has jokers 😂😂
“In South Bay” 😂😂
Bronny would 100% be protected because LeGM
If Vegas gets an NBA team I hope it’s called the Vegas Blackjacks
That name sucks
Naa Las Vegas spades or outlaws
Unawware of history? No way spades acceptable, used as racist pronoun in 60s.
@@scottrichards3587 spades is fire
Name of any type of weapon won't work, remember Wizards past name?
Blazers would definitely protect Toumani over Walker (I say as a die hard blazers fan)
May we please do away with conference playoffs? The West is stacked enough as it is and it’s been like this for 30 yrs.
The Sonics are coming back in the next 2-3 years, remember this!
haha... Sorry to tell you this man but you're wrong. We stole your team and you wont get another one back! You bums!
I don't think for mavs, omax will be protected but j.hardy will allowed to walk away
Bron & Bronny to LV, KD & Beal to Seattle. Book to NY.
first smart thing bonny ever said Deni would be first Portland should have never traded for him it will ruin him
Kuzma unprotected? He's the only player they have
Should name them
Vegas Roulette Reds
Why would the blazers protect Duop Reath over Rob Will and Ayton 💀
