Wow, this is insane!. This is something unheard of, even for someone who grew up in Myanmar like me. However, I can ensure you that the message those Burmese students were trying to show the world is very true . And, things hasn't change for Myanmar till today. Also, the video is very well made . Just Wow.

Speaking of which, these nations in Indochina, such as Myanmar Laos Cambodia Vietnam, have two things in common; they went through the bitterness of Colonialism. They, being next to China, drew into China's orbit and like China, became People's Republic [Socialist/Communist] nations after painful Colonialism.
Slavery, Colonialism and Colonization' are all evil things done and benefited by evildoers. After century-long painful Western global Colonialism (Colonial masters British and France alone colonized over 70 nations), some of these former Colonial nations turned to Socialism/Communism for a relief. World's economic and military power Colonial master West which accumulated a great deals of wealth through centuries-long Slavery, Colonialism and Colonization, turned against these former Colonial nations by black listing, black outing, sanctioning, stonewalling and making enemies; since global economic, political and military power/influence of the world is in the hands of the West, to this day, although to some degrees, China and others are rising slowly but steadily. Long live Indochina! More at, blog.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=742201

I cant blame people who think they are bad but they tried to take hostage of the burmese government workers in thai yo make demands with the Burmese military at that time, if they did it in Myanmar they'll get shot and killed without hesitation

That's was sad and daring for the rebel heroes. At least they sincerely apologized to the people of Thailand. The Thai negotiators were right, they shouldn't repeat the siege.

The thing is that the purpose is to let the world know however they should fight against the military not taken foreign hostages. I sympathies with them but what use if you take other people life, and also the purpose of the hospital siege? to let the world know? Come on..

Here's from wiki about God's Army "...In October 1999, a group calling themselves Vigorous Burmese Student Warriors along with the God's Army seized the Burmese embassy in Bangkok and the situation ended with their departure, at which point they were taken in by God's Army.[12] The Burmese Government called the attack "a pure act of terrorism" and in Washington the State Department, which has been critical of the Burmese military regime, also condemned what it called "a terrorist attack".[13]
In January 2000, 10 members of God's Army seized a hospital in Ratchaburi, Thailand.[4] The group held about 500 patients and staff members hostage for 22 hours. They demanded the Thai government stop shelling Karen positions in Burma and treatment for their wounded. They planted "booby" traps in the hospital and threatened to blow up the hospital.[9] Thai security forces stormed the hospital, killing all 10 of the gunmen.[10] After the raid, God's Army were strenuously pursued by the Tatmadaw (Burmese armed forces) and shunned by other Karen rebels..."

I stumbled upon this video. Thank for sharing. I lived in Bangkok for 4 years and in my humble opinion the Thai 🇹🇭 people are so lovely. They have the bad just like everyone else. The authorities that were involved in this situation deserve more recognition for their efforts. Thank you.
I felt so much sorry for the hostage takers because of
their plight in their land caused by their government. Sad to hear of their deaths.

We were having a seminar in a certain building near the Embassy of Myanmar that day in October 99. We heard lots of noise outside and looked out the windows. They rose their rebels' flag and then one guy fired a gun in the air. We all hit the floor and then had to crawl out of the room. But no one died. And we got out of the seminar.

@@redsky4038 My brother you would actually be surprised to find out that this has actually become somewhat nation wide movement now tbh. Many of these rebels in the country are built with all these students, even back then to now. They never disappeared, they've always been preparing since the military has never left over politic scene. One of my class mate also joined and was able to y'kow what to one of Junta's higher up, and got arrested. I still don't know if he's alive or not and he's 16.

rather than causing mayhem in a foreign country, they could have voiced themselves in other ways rather than taking hostages. First time, they were fortunate. But the second time... the hospital... was simply asking for it. You would think they had the brains to think logically since they are university students but... their actions are kinda dumb. First place i can possibly understand. But the hospital? Seriously?
These rebel student could have simply brought their voices to the media directly however they've decided to get the attention from the media in a negative light. A pity really.
Although their cause is just (Myanmar military gov is f***ed up), however their actions have tarnished themselves. Such a waste to be honest.

Seems awfully similar to whats happening now in HK. Only difference is none of the victims got injured or murdered here.
