It's heartbreaking to see this video about the kidnapping and the suffering the ship crews have to endured for more than four years which left more than four crews died... What Mr. Leslie Edwards was saying " they were largely from developing countries, they weren't European, they weren't westerners, no governments taking responsibilities for them, there were no insurance available ad really they were left to rotten to die disgracefully, really..." Wow, thats reality. This video is now as an evidence of people who still have the heart and would do their best on whatever it takes with their experience, knowledge, expertise and perseverance to save the remaining 26 Asian poor and helpless crews.. And more than four years wait for an agreement from the pirates was a mind blowing!! Though it is infact you are not in the limelight after thw rescue but you are the main Saint of humanity that have my respect Mr. Leslie Edwards, Mr. John Steed and Mr. George Lamplough... I think that some of the blame does go to foreign countries regarding oil and illegal fishing, however, most of the blame seems to lie within the country itself; corruption, in-fighting, lack of good governance and law & order etc. How can a country be rich in oil and yet not wealthy unless some serious corruption has gone on. I don't believe that Somalia was some sort of paradise prior to foreign nations coming in and extracting oil. Although I do agree that it is indeed a crime the environmental mess the oil companies left behind in Somalia.

Let me give you my opinion on this as an Ethiopian. Many Somalis don’t like Ethiopians, but I strongly believe that Somalis have the right to defend their waters! Just because their country has been in bad shape in recent history and lacks a strong government capable of defending its territory, doesn’t give just about anybody to come and dump their waste and fish in Somali waters. For instance, imagine if Belgian fishermen came to Britain’s waters to fish after UK has completely withdrawn from the EU and had announced that nobody but UK citizens to fish in their waters? Do you think there won’t be consequences? Of course, it’s gonna be legal consequences since UK and Europe in general have a well established rule of law. But imagine if the UK government was weak to defend its waters, do you think UK citizens would just idly sit by and North African people to come all the way there and take advantage of their resources? Of course, I don’t condone killings but these Somalis have every right to stop outsiders from coming into their waters and catching tons of fish and dumping their waste because they think they can get away with it. Shame on all of you who’re looking at this situation solely from the fishermen’s side. Like I mentioned earlier Ethiopians and Somalis aren’t the best of friends, but this is apparent to see if you’re being logical and rational. You wouldn’t let a thief trespass on your property to take what you legally own. These people made a mistake knowingly or unknowingly, but I wouldn’t feel sorry for any fishermen who knowingly trespasses into a sovereign country’s territory to steal the resources that has legally been allocated to Somalia by international law.
