Went on a blind date to see David Bowie at The Chicago Amphitheatre in 1976. Just a huge barn used for fights and the circus - no frills and it was the classiest concert I've ever seen!
Right is the song on the B-side of the single, a great tune as well. This is from his Young Americans album, recorded at Sigma Sound Studio & he called it "plastic soul." Never did another quite like it. Right, Win & my fave Fascination are great funky songs that most people don't know about cuz they were not on the radio. Fascination was so-written by a young Luther Vandross, who was one of the back-up singers as well. John Lennon also co-wrote Fame with him (with riff by the talented Carlos Alomar). Bowie was the first white performer to appear on Soul Train when this came out. Sorry, I will stop talking now, I just always hope people will give some of his other songs a chance, I don't always agree that his "hits" are necessarily his best stuff. (life-long fan, can you tell?)
For anyone reading this who hasn't heard it, the demo for Fascination was Luther's song Funky Music. It's a certified classic. Also check out the Young Americans bonus tracks It's Gonna Be Me, Who Can I Be Now?, and John, I'm Only Dancing (Again). Young Americans is imo one of the top Bowie albums, and I'm mostly a rock fan.
@Chris Meadows Hey we meet again! Love seeing another Bowie fan lurking the these reactions. A kindrid spirit to share in spreading the Bowie legacy. Wish you well my friend!
He went to Philadelphia PA mid 70s to record that album using local musicians. One of them happen to be Luther Vandros. He wanted the philly soul sound. Since he was white he called it plastic soul.
Beatle John Lennon co wrote the song too. I can hear him writing the lines "What you need, you have to borrow" and "What you get is no tomorrow". I don't know though.
There was a time when Mtv was the end-all-be-all of music news and influence, and there was a time when Mtv didn't play any rap or r&b, or anything considered "urban" ... Bowie was one of the only artists (and probably the first) who would go on random Mtv interviews and call them out for not playing that spectrum of music - long before "hip-hop" went mainstream - because Bowie was a huge fan of it all =)
David bowie the legend. You should do the man that sold the world wich nirvana covered. Other bowie songs you should check out are changes, hero's,life on mars, space oddity, let's dance, china girl etc.and those are just a few of my suggestions now the last album that he did before he passed you should definitely check out. Have a good night everyone💕💕💕💕💕 i would also like to add labyrinth is one my fav movies and he played jareth very well. And dance magic dance was my jam when i saw this movie for the first time still is. RIP David Bowie we miss you always.
So Funny that you Mentioned Detroit as David Bowie also dabbled in Punk as well as Funk (and many many other musical genres) As Bowie also did and collaborated with Iggy Pop, another Detroit Native!! Just Saying!! Music is Universal!!
Most people will tell you to listen to all sorts of things, and you can't go wrong with any Bowie song, but I think you should check out Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud. It's from his 2nd album David Bowie and it will send you on an adventure.
Sometimes you love someone deeper than you realized and it slips your mind and how over time they've weaved their way with various songs into your heart and over the years you've seen them Act in Films, sing with Bing Crosby, had them go from one genre to the next and in some cases inventing them. Finding out what patrons to the Arts they were doing many things not required and never asked for out of the goodness of their hearts...and then...they're gone. If I say anymore well I'll need a towel. You...reminded me of what he meant...
Bowie is my favourite artist of all time and I was actually named after one of his songs “China Girl”. Thanks for your reaction and welcome to the journey. If you enjoyed this I highly recommend Golden Years by him also. It’s one of my favourite songs from David.
One of my favorites!!! I had to hear it when ur clip gave notice! I stopped the movie for this. And loved how u were feelin it with ur perfect move! I luv this song...aah!
He has lots of hit songs. He was also the Goblin King in the movie Labyrinth. Jim Hinson ( Sesame Street Muppet creator) did the Muppets in this movie also staring Jennifer Connelly (also stared in The Incredible Hulk).
Love your music reactions. So glad I subscribed. I have a request. Disturbed- Down with the sickness. It will blow your mind.... Love you Man. Hope you see this.
Thank you for the reaction! By the way, If you are not really aware of David bowie, you're missing out! Major figure, enough to sing "under pressure" along with none other other than freddie mercury from queen!
The problem with Bowie music is that no two people can agree on his top songs because they are so varied. I will tell you that I think his live song versions (from any tour) are better than his studio songs mainly because he puts so much emotion into them. On every tour he ever did, he changed up the flavor of the songs and sang from his heart. So much better live! Fascination, Win, Right, Can you Hear Me, Stay, Golden Years... All great songs! Dive in to his enormous back catalog and savor the music. Give it a chance to sink into your soul (some of it you won't appreciate on first listens) and you won't regret it. Groot was digging Bowie already. They played Moonage Daydream on GotG and Suffragette City on GotG2 and the spaceship was called the Bowie.
When I was Young I thought A Black Person Sung this Song!! But You Couldn't have told me that "David Bowie" 😮 Was Singing. He doesn't look the Type!!🔥🔥🔥
David's Soul album from the "Philadelphia Sessions". You can see footage of DB in the studio creating "Right" in his Autobiographical documentary entitled "Five Years". Lots of never before seen clips from David's personal archives. 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
The song features John Lennon on backing vocals and acoustic guitar, he also co-wrote the song. You should check GOLDEN YEARS and/or YOUNG AMERICANS for the funk, but i dare you to react to BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE (official vid). Btw RIGHT was the song on the other side of the single (The B side ).
another big one would be BLONDIE with *Rapture* I don`t like any of her Songs.....but this one`s great...you`ll be suprised (exuse my spelling, I`m German )
John, I'm Only Dancing (Again), The Secret Life of Arabia, and Red Money could challenge it. Red Money was originally Sister Midnight, the funkiest of songs handed to Iggy Pop.
Sexy funky song! The RIFF of this song was sampled by PUBLIC ENEMY's Night of the Living Baseheads (my favorite rap group). David Bowie was like a Chameleon; he had so many different vibes. "Let's Dance", "Major Tom", "China Girl"
It's good you knocked out some Bowie but the sound quality on this file was pretty ropey. if Bowies product was anything, it was always really well engineered.
1970's.I was 9 mos pregnant in 2004 and saw him live. Gave birth 12 days later, and My son can funk out any bass, guitar and keyboards to this day!!!Just saying
This is from album "Young Americans" and Bowie labeled this sound as "Plastic Soul" (meaning it's lacking authentity due he beein' a white chum from UK). Then again, Bowie was invited to perform on the Soul Train, so I think we can all agree that he had soul. "Right" is the name of the song on the B side of the 45. It was on the same LP as "Fame." FYI-John Lennon co-wrote this song, along with Carlos Alomar who came up with the main guitar riff.
Love Bowie🔥Father of glam rock. He was a genius & very funny. He co-wrote “Under Pressure” Queen. First white man to perform on “Soul Train” RIP Jared the goblin king”👍
So cool you liked "Howard the Duck". The movie got panned, and I never understood why. It was quite funny, with a great cast. Glad to see there's another fan of it out there!
Gives a shout out to the stand alone gray hair in the beard. I'm with you on that, although mine has too much gray LOL. But yeah, back on topic, David Bowie has some good tunes and this is one of them, but he was so experimental in his music that I can't get into everything of his like some can.
The important thing to know in regards to this is, if you like one song on a specific album, you'll probably like most of the non-singles even more. You may not cross over into another album, but that album will be like sweet oxygen if you give it the chance it deserves.
David Bowie's song "Let's dance" is another you should listen to - you would recognise the main riff from that one too, since it's been famously sampled in rap by one of the greatest (no more clues - go listen to it!)
*Thank you for supporting the channel guys!!! 🖤*
All the best to you for taking the time to check this stank out. ❤
Van, I would enjoy you reaction to my favorite high school song, lol
THE GAP BAND "Talkin' Back"
Amen. Right is a song on the album. I love it!
I had a friend in highschool that if you were riding in his car, you would only be hearing Bowie. Good times lol
It was probably me.
Plot twist: I was that high school friend 😂 For real though he sounds like a cool guy!
@@LOLZHAHANOTFUNNY LOL He is great. My longest known friend....28 years. Met when we were 10 in 4th grade 😀
I’d pay them rent to live in that car
"Friend",huh? It was you, wasn't it?
Another funky sounding David Bowie track to react to is "Golden Years".
Went on a blind date to see David Bowie at The Chicago Amphitheatre in 1976. Just a huge barn used for fights and the circus - no frills and it was the classiest concert I've ever seen!
Gotta love that stank face when the groove kicks in.

"BOWIE "THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great song. John Lennon’s on backing vocals btw.
“Golden years” next!
Beatle John Lennon co wrote the song too. I can hear him writing the lines "What you need, you have to borrow" and "What you get is no tomorrow". I don't know though.
yes to golden years
Cool fact. I'm 54 years old and never heard that. Lifetime Bowie fan

Mtv. Long dead. Just crap for decades
Please do The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Spiders From Mars, by David Bowie.
Also funky.
That's an album, not a song
C-C-C-Changes, suffrage city. His duet with Mike Jagger "dancing in the streets"is just fun to watch
Bro, that song hit so hard when I first heard it. My buddies hated when I played in the car. My car my tunes.
Jean Genie. Great bluesy track and super underrated
Suffragette City is a favorite of mine
Spent many an hour doing The Bump to "Fame" at junior high dances in the '70s.
❤🤣
And then Play that funky music white boy by WILD CHERRY IN 1976 , I miss the FUNKY 70s
Yo Van, you gotta do a reaction to his song “LETS DANCE”
Please do Lets Dance, Modern Love and Cat People!
David Bowie was the first white man to perform on Soul Train back in the day!
Result of a jam session w/John Lennon after they recorded a cover of John's Across the Universe. You can hear Lennon in the background.
David bowie the legend. You should do the man that sold the world wich nirvana covered. Nirvana did a great job
Add Ziggy Stardust, Jean Genie, Space Oddity and follow that up with Ashes To Ashes
You should hear the whole album It's a set of soul influenced songs. Amazing.
And Scary Monsters too
Right is the flip side of the Fame single
So Funny that you Mentioned Detroit as David Bowie also dabbled in Punk as well as Funk (and many many other musical genres) As Bowie also did and collaborated with Iggy Pop, another Detroit Native!! Just Saying!! Music is Universal!!
React to David Bowie's - Let's Dance.
Your "put some stank on it!" face when the funk kicked in was spectacular haha
Luther Vandross was a studio/backup singer for Bowie on the "Young Americans" album. "Right" was the b-side to "Fame," check it out.
Great reaction...check out his other songs Heroes, Modern Love, China Girl and Let’s Dance.
Public Enemy Sampled This track. That's how funky it is.
don't forget that James Brown also stole it, can't get more funky than that mate!!
Most people will tell you to listen to all sorts of things, and you can't go wrong with any Bowie song, but I think you should check out Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud. It's from his 2nd album David Bowie and it will send you on an adventure.
Funkticity?? Hell yeah!! Love it! 😊

I luv this song...aah!
Fun fact: David Bowie's hero growing up was Little Richard.
This song came out when I was a little kid. I remember hearing it coming from the neighbor's house. Loved it ever since. The funk got me like 🤩🤩
1:27 - How did I know the stank face was coming! 🤣This song is totally worthy of the stank face.
Try David Bowie "Lets Dance"
This song will always remind me of one of my favorite movies “copycat”
The pic is the cover of the single - A side Fame, B side Right
So much expression in his delivery, and that swing is just dirty. The guitar riffs are heavy, whole song gets me.
He has lots of hit songs. He was also the Goblin King in the movie Labyrinth. Jim Hinson ( Sesame Street Muppet creator) did the Muppets in this movie also staring Jennifer Connelly (also stared in The Incredible Hulk).
Whenever I hear this track I think of Next Friday and Pinky walking into the record shop

This Is What Happens When Two Music Legends/Geniuses Collide!! Everything Bowie Did Was Gold, Everything Nile Rodgers Did Was Gold! Together 💥🔥!!
Two? Three! Don't forget Lennon!
Er, think you’re getting mixed up with Let’s Dance... Nile had no input into Fame, it was Carlos Alomar responsible for the guitar riffs.
@@gavinallan351 You are right my bad!! ✌🏼
Oh the song is just called Fame.
Excellent Bowie choice ❤
Bowie loved funk. In fact his entire band at this point in time were funkicidal maniacs.
Check it out!
The 70s were THEEEE FUNKIESTG DECADE EVER EASY Fame came out in 1975 Baby
Somebody probably said it but "Right" is probably the b-side song and that pic was a cover from the Fame single.
Legend who helped legends! Check out Let’s Dance with Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar and Young Americans with Luther Vandross singing back-up!
I sure wish I could talk some of my tail off! 🤣
I love Bowie’s “american” with luther vandross on the background vocals

His song, "I'm afraid of Americans" is fantastic.
Check out his song under pressure, you'll recognize the intro because it's been sampled heavily by other artists including of course Vanilla Ice.
Bowie was a gift . So many great tunes..
FAME 🔥🔥🔥 🎵🎸David Bowie ICON.
Right is side B I believe. Check it out it's the sweetest soul (Vandross on backups too) Also try Golden Years :)

This was the JAM at the nightclub! Everybody got on the dance floor, even if you had to dance by yourself.
'Right' is the other side of the record. They're both from the 1975 album 'Young Americans '
Us 70s brats got the best funk ever
Just for clarification, the song is just called “Fame”, but he does actually have a song called “Right” (which I love).
David's Soul album from the "Philadelphia Sessions".
You can see footage of DB in the studio creating "Right" in his Autobiographical documentary entitled "Five Years". Lots of never before seen clips from David's personal archives.
