5:48 The vocal mikes setup makes Bowie's voice sound more distant - the louder he has to sing, the deeper his voice sinks into the mix, so that finally he is shouting across a wide gulf. This is also a direct illustration of the theme of separation in the song - you can just about imagine him calling across the Wall.
I was in Berlin back in 2013 and I booked a ‘Bowie in Berlin’ tour. The highlight was the tour of Hansa Ton Studio. Being in that large Ballroom as well as the nearby room where the recording console was located was amazing. The room in which the recording console was located was also the room with the window facing the Berlin Wall where Bowie spotted Visconti having a snog with Maas and where he wrote the lyrics to “Heroes”. I got to sit on that window sill. It was a very special thing to be there. Also got to go into the studio on the first floor where Bowie and Ziggy recorded The Idiot.
I’ve been fortunate to visit Hansa. The ballroom has an amazing ambience. As a huge Bowie fan I was moved to be able to look out of the same window he saw his ‘lovers’ kissing.
Each of these album breakdowns is a treat. You have a knack for tying the technical aspects with the emotional insight that leads to great art. I liked the world much better when Bowie was in it.
Thank you! That’s really kind of you to say, I do try to connect both the technical and emotional aspects. Totally agreed that the world was better place with Bowie in it.
Great video as always! Thanks for the time you put into this channel I wouldn't normally ask and I appreciate you're busy But I'd be interested in your deep dive on the recording of Tago Mago
Great work. It's one of my favourite albums, due to the mixture of synth, f/x and sonic textures, such as Fripp's guitar work. It's odd that Robert Fripp didn't receive a writing credit on the title track, considering his triple solo is a big part of the sound.
I miss this Man so much😢

Good point! ❤️
This man and that song. England you gave us your best
Don't forget the Beatles , the kinks ad infinitum...the best island for music in the world
Heroes, Ashes to Ashes and Boys Keep Swinging were my classics as a kid. Was nine or so years old and I really liked the videos of Boys and Ashes 👌

I’d love to do that tour one day!
This album and ‘Low’ even more so will always be my two favourite albums of all time. I could listen to them all day and never get bored. 🧡🩶

Thats great, I'd love to go myself. Do they do tours or were you recording there?
Same here, it was quite an experience, that tour!!!!!
@@mixingmasteringonline It was a tour, check on line Bowie Berlin tours.
The sound of distance and confusion was such a masterpiece.

What a great look inside🩵⚡
Celestial Fripp sound
Robert Fripp on lead guitar 🎸
Along with perhaps five of his other albums could be considered the greatest album of all time.
Heroes! Forever and ever!
Very interesting backstory to how Heroes was made, well done.👍
Thank you so much 😀
Great video!
Thank you!
As many others have said, this was a most thorough in-depth video.I thank you for all your work on my favorite performer ever!!!
Thank you!
Thank you that was great. I want everyone to know that you too can be heroes.
One of Fripp and Eno's best albums too.
Oh yeah.. one of Eno's best?
Listen Dude, have u ever heard about Roxy Music?
Great video as always!

Thank you, that’s an interesting one I’ll definitely look into it!
They did have some great records with fantastic production.

Thank you! It’s a good point, That guitar part is so integral to the song .
I think Fripp’s guitar is the greatest part of the song, by far.
e-bow + overdrive + delay creates a similar guitar sound 👌
Musically, the track “Heroes” was in fact based on the Velvet Underground song, “What Goes On”, not “Waiting for the Man”.
9:25 “One of Bowie’s finest,” like every other one.
Hello MMO. I'm just commenting for the YT algorithm, as your content is ALWAYS fantastic, and needs to break out of the background noise.
Thank you! I really appreciate it 😃
8:08 Thought I had Deja Vu for a minute there til I listened to it again lol
One of Heroes greatest moments is Bowie's saxophone. It is a moaning wail.
After his death, Germany did indeed thanked him
RIP Bowie 🙏✌️🤘🇦🇺

Me too
That is definitely an ebow !
Sounds like Bowie doing a duet with a bee.
Love the guitar parts. But as a guitarist for 35 years that was an E-Bow. Feedback? Bullshit.
It's not bullshit if it's feasible.
Also sounds al LOT like the gizmotron when you hear the isolated tracks.
Any proofs, maybe, at least ine photo if Fripp with E-Bow?
